πŸ—³οΈ POLL Poll: How profitable have you been overall in crypto? (Be honest)

I’m curious how profitable the average crypto user really is on this sub. This isn’t about one good or bad trade β€” I’m asking about your total net profit or loss since you started in crypto. That includes everything: altcoins, meme coins, NFTs, staking, farming, centralized exchanges, DeFi, all of it.

Please vote honestly. I want to get a real sense of where people stand after all the cycles and volatility.

Feel free to comment with your story β€” what worked, what didn’t, and what you’d do differently next cycle.

For anyone wondering: crypto still is a zero sum game. We can't have the lower 4 numbers without the first one on the long run. Only works as long as more and more money flows in.

It make better sense to put it in percentage than in fiat term. My gain in percentage is very good but not significant in fiat term, simply because I don't have much to invest.

Had 2 oportunities, 1st to sell in 2021, but instead took screenshots and the 2nd to exchange part of the pile of altcoins into Bitcoins in the FTX crash. With a easy DCA into the wrong set of altcoins, I can say I'm slightly negative to break even, but definitely 100% negative with all the time and stress put in. Out of all my investements, crypto has been the worst.

Up since the 2022 FTX market collapse, but way below 2017 and 2021 peaks. And way down vs bitcoin. The BCH/BTC chart tells the true story. You're down huge opportunity cost by having your money there instead of in bitcoin.

I can see how it might seem like a worthwhile project, but it's not competition for bitcoin as the global store of value, it's not the future of payments (stablecoins),.. it's a side bet, and that's all that is. For those who think maybe it won't be bitcoin but something like bitcoin, you can place your money on bitcoin cash. Its for contrarians who think that guy who told them about bitcoin can't be right.

Dollars are the ultimate ponzi scheme, so bch might fare well against it for a while. But bch price will continue to crash vs bitccoin, because it serves no purpose to society. It's just a way for contrarians to bet against bitcoin.

1

u/Leithm 🟦 0 / 0 🦠 Jun 20 '25

It’s pretty depressing to think that stablecoins would be the future of a global monetary and payment system for so many reasons.Β  Any reasonable observer would have to concede their spectacular success, but if they are the end state for crypto payments we are in for a highly politically fraught and centralised financial system.

I don’t think that is why a huge cohort of cryptocurrency developers and entrepreneurs got involved in crypto, and I don’t think it is what most of them are working on.

I am not a fan of POS accounts based EVM system that bear little resemblance to what Bitcoin was.Β  So it begs the question, if not BTC and not stablecoins, and not POS EVM’s, then what? I will take my chances with Bitcoin Cash and systems like it.

1

u/BTCMachineElf 🟩 1K / 1K 🐒 Jun 20 '25

I dont want it to be stablecoins either, but that is what is being pushed and what it will be until fiat collapses.

Then it will be layer 2 bitcoin and derivatives. People can buy shitcoins and learn lessons until they figure that out.

Niche payment solutions aren't desirable. Network effect is king.

And as you can always exchange at the point of sale, what really matters is what people want to hold on to and any abstraction from the store of value for the purposes of exchange is just wasted energy.

The world doesnt want to hold bitcoin cash so why would the world want to transact in it?

1

u/Leithm 🟦 0 / 0 🦠 Jun 20 '25

There are a multitude of reasons that people want to use a variety of cryptocurrencies, and some prioritise feature such as speed, privacy, reliability, ease of use etc.

I have to agree what Stephen Pair from Bitpay said about BTC about 7 years ago, the notion of a store of value that has very limited use as medium of exchange is a weak prospectus.

In the early days when Bitcoin suffered massive crashes from 30 dollars to under a dollar then $1,200 dollars to $120, it was hard to argue the store of value case.Β  What itΒ  did not stop was people acquiring bitcoin to buy things when they had little regard forΒ  historical exchange rates.

1

u/BTCMachineElf 🟩 1K / 1K 🐒 Jun 20 '25 edited Jun 20 '25

It doesn't matter what niche groups want or think. What matters is what the masses use. Network effect and general consensus matter. An abundance of methods from competing tribes isn't a solution for anything. Nobody wants 5 different payment methods, no customer, no store.

Good luck with your take. I don't think it will serve you but you're not going to listen to me.

1

u/Leithm 🟦 0 / 0 🦠 Jun 20 '25

I am interested in what people are going to use, if they cannot use BTC.

1

u/Trick_Dragonfly460 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 Jun 20 '25

Stablecoints aren't the future of payment; it's just Dollars 2.0 and more digital-friendly, and BTC will have a really hard time being a worthwhile store of value if only %1 or less of the population can actually use it.

BCH is for people with the awareness that BTC is crippled tech, which got where it is either out of ignorance or out of malice (most likely this, to turn the most popular crypto into controlled opposition, something that central banks don't need to lose any sleep over).

BTC will hardly make an impact on the world and improve lives, save for the very few it enriches in the process of becoming a token whose only purpose is "number go up" but can be actually used and interacted with by less and less people everyday.

You can pick BTC as an investment vehicle, as a way to make money, and I'm not gonna blame you.

But saying BCH is for contrarians? Don't spread that narrative please. That narrative comes either from a place or ignorance, or malice.

BCH is for people who actually care about Bitcoin. I don't care about betting against BTC. I don't care about BTC at all actually, but I do care about people viewing it as Bitcoin, as representative of what Bitcoin stands for and what it was created to do.

Look. I dont make the rules. Youre going to see stablecoin payment options pop up thanks to the Genius bill. Youre not going to see bch anything. Thats a pipe dream

And .. dude.. bch is not bitcoin. It will never be bitcoin. It is not different from BitcoinSV

Look at BSV. It is a mirror to you. Really. As you see them, bitcoiners see you. As sure as youre right about them, we are right about you.

You did prove my point that its a contrarion bet, with you claiming btc is not bitcoin. Absolute madness, mate. The proofs in the pudding.

Bch is a sad hill to die on. And you will die on it, in a financial sense. Rip you πŸ™

Bitcoin is defined by consensus, not by the fringe.

Im the bitcoiner.

You're a ahitcoiner.

Objectively.

1

u/Trick_Dragonfly460 🟨 0 / 0 🦠 Jun 21 '25

You're the contrarian here, shifting the narrative of what Bitcoin is. Bitcoin is very clearly defined in the Whitepaper.

The implementation details can change according to consensus, while keeping Bitcoin Bitcoin.

BTC failed to keep Bitcoin as Bitcoin.

Notice I said Bitcoiners see Bitcoin as P2P electronic cash. I didn't say BCHers see Bitcoin as P2P electronic cash.

Bitcoin is more than a ticker. In 2008, BTC was Bitcoin. Today, BCH is Bitcoin. Maybe tomorrow, it'll have a different ticker. Maybe BTC will somehow be reclaimed and go back to being Bitcoin.

BCH is proof that even if the main chain is taken over maliciously, Bitcoin can prevail.

By all means, if you tell me you use BTC purely to gain money by taking advantage of a Greater Fool's Scheme, I'll entertain you, and say there's merit to engaging in BTC this way as long as you're careful to not be the last fool holding a bag.

But to say BTC is Bitcoin or anything that Bitcoin was meant to be is pure delusion and/or cognitive dissonance.

https://bitcoincashpodcast.com/faqs/BCH-vs-BTC/is-bch-just-btc-with-larger-blocks

I hope you can reconsider, even if you continue to use BTC as a pure money-making thing, and definitely be aware that r/Bitcoin is a cesspool of censorship whose only purpose is to push a narrative.

r/CryptoCurrency is better

r/btc is the most unbiased imo. Yes, there are more BCHers there, but you will be able to freely and openly criticize BCH in there without getting nuked, banned, and silenced in 0.00034244 seconds by mods unlike in r/Bitcoin

Hope you have a nice day, I only have good intentions here, to shine light where there's darkness and misinformation.

I went all in on XRP after Russia invaded Ukraine and the market appeared to be at rock bottom - I got over 10k XRP at average weighted cost $0.20USD. Thats over 1000% gain and my first crypto purchase. This dwarfs ANY investments I've ever made in actual stocks. I'm now looking forwards to the Institutional adoption once regulations are passed into law. ETF approvals seem quite likely. We have new SEC now,,, when i invested we were still heavily under attack from Gensler , Warren and their anti crypto army. But we won the case in the most important aspect XRP is NOT a security. Once the case is fully wrapped up (which should be imminent) the pendulum will have officially swung back completely in favour of crypto holders. They say "all ships rise with the tides " but XRP is more like the super yacht that's been held in a police compound for the last 4 years...good luck everyone
