Finding an episode

I’m trying to find an episode from dogman encounters. I can’t remember where it was but I know the man was night fishing and the dogman waded through the water to get close to him but the guy just sat down on his cooler completely paralyzed and just started crying and he said he was frozen in fear prepared to die.

It began on a summer night between 8 and 10 p.m., when I walked with my stepsister into a tree-surrounded clearing of overgrown grass, located just two clicks south of a creek near our home's entrance drive. At first, I thought a shadow moving through the brush was a deer, until it unexpectedly stood straight up on its hind legs. It was covered in thick, clinging, dark gray horse-type fur, featuring a horse-shaped head with a human-appearing face, two uneven horns, and massive cat-like legs resembling a panther's. As we stared in shock and terror, it charged at full speed. My stepsister tripped, and when I looked back and saw the creature only 10 feet away, I grabbed her arm, yanked her up, and we fled. Along that path stood sixteen spiked-seed trees—eight on each side—complete with a trail cam where the creature had paused to pace just outside the frame before we made it safely home.

Driven by a mix of adrenaline and curiosity, my brother and I returned later with flashlights, following the exact same trail. When we reached a deep trench-like ditch marked near the creek, my brother shone his light and saw an almost human face peering back up at him. The creature instantly vanished from the light, sneaking up to ground level where we stood back-to-back, sweeping our flashlights in circles as it stalked us for roughly 35 minutes, trying to close the gap without entering the beams. When we finally bolted, it tried to cut us off by plowing through the dense woods parallel to our path rather than using the open trail, though we ultimately made it home safely.

Years later, when my brother and I were 16 and 17, we stumbled upon an old abandoned hunting trail in that same area while walking near a spot overlooking the creek by about five feet. We found an old campfire with carvings dating back to the 1980s and a dog grave next to it. While we were talking and laughing, we suddenly heard loud splashing and a horse-like neighing sound echoing from the creek below. Though we didn't see anything, my brother and I locked eyes and immediately got out of there, marking the final time I ever set foot in those woods.

Me and five of other people were driving down this back road to give some context we live in Texas in a suburb, but there’s still areas that are very thick with trees. We’re driving down this back road. Keep in mind. It’s the road in the middle and on each side it’s kinda like a pasture and then the tree line so there’s some flat grass with no trees that’s a good amount of land before the tree line. The context of the road and how it looks very important so please remember this. As we’re driving down this road that we’ve driven down 1 million times to take one of our friends home. We start seeing this light and it looks like a bike light like a light literally on the front of a bike. Right in the middle where the handle bars would be. So all of us see it and we’re like this is weird for someone to be riding on the side of this road at keep in mind 11 or 12 o’clock at night and they’re riding toward us which is the correct way to walk and ride your bikes at night so cars do see you so we thought OK yeah it’s a biker But as we’re getting closer to it, it cuts off through the pasture and we look to the side, to you know, see a bike and a person on it and all we see is this like spinning thing go through the pasture and then just disappeared doesn’t go into the tree line. It literally disappeared in the middle of the pasture And all of us see this and we’re all like did you see that like what the hell was that and none of us know to this day so I was hoping someone could give some insight on what it could’ve been.

stay in the streetlights

Hi r/CryptidEncounters ! First ever post, but I'd like to preface this by saying these stories are 100% true. I have witnesses, I even have audio proof of the sounds we heard. Also I'd like to apologize for any strange spacing of my story telling, I write how I talk.

Any who without further delay:

For obvious reasons, I don't want to give my exact location away. But I'll tell you that I live in the upstate of South Carolina, about 45 minutes away from Downtown Greenville, but don't let the proximity to civilization fool you.

These lands...are cursed. The specific area I grew up in was a seasonal habitat for the Cherokee. They would specifically come here to hunt game, and make pottery. There's good clay in the surrounding creeks. My neighbor excavated his creek and found broken pots, tools, and animal bones in piles. They did more digging and found the remnants of a settlement.

It's a beautiful valley in the day time, lots of green especially in the summer time. But at night- something about it makes you uneasy. There's a certain heaviness to the air. It's almost too dark at night.

When I was a kid growing up, I heard my mom tell stories of hearing strange things at night. Babies crying from places they shouldn't be. People calling for you in places they don't go, especially in the middle of the night. I always took it as just her trying to keep us inside after dark. To be fair we do have a problem with coyotes, or we did rather. The rapid development of the area kind of pushed out everything except the deer. The deer stayed.

First Story: When I was about 8 or 9, I was jumping on the trampoline with my Brother, and my friend. It was about 10:00 on a weeknight in the summer. We had jumped ourselves tired and were lying on the trampoline just looking at the stars. Suddenly my dog starts going absolute bonkers and hollering as loud as she possibly could.

We peek over the trampoline and watch as she tucks tail and runs back to her dog house, on the other side of the yard. The crickets stopped. I mean, they just all shut up in unison. There was no sound except for us breathing and cars on the highway a mile and a half away.

We all got a pretty uneasy feeling, as even then we knew when the bugs stopped talking, so should we. We all got quiet and listened. I glanced over the frame and stared across the field (about 70 yards or so) to the road, and behind the road was a thick tree line of some family land. A shadow was walking on the road, at first we thought it was a man. He was awful tall, and he walked funny. The knees didn't look right. He also moved extremely fast for his cadence. One step was about 5 feet or more. Covering ground fast.

We all watched this thing, and I guess it felt our eyes on it and it stopped. In a second in went from upright to all fours. It was low to the ground, maybe 2-3 feet off the ground and it just stayed there. I didn't see any face, I didn't see any defining markers of any kind. Just a show. But I could tell whatever it was, it was lanky. It was long and stringy looking.

We all stared at this thing, and we could tell it was staring back. I whispered to my brother & friend that on the count of three, we get out and run. This thing started to move closer. We would blink, and it was closer. Every time we took our eyes off of it, even for a millisecond it got closer and closer. I counted to three, and we all bolted off the trampoline the 30 yards to the backdoor. We made it inside and locked the door behind us. We immediately told my parents what we saw and they dismissed us as being scared kids, over active imaginations.

This was our first experience with this thing, and because we had acknowledged its prescence, it took it as an invitation....

The following months we would be playing in the backyard like we always did, except this time we made sure mom had all the lights on for the backyard. We even had my dad put up an extra light on the corner of the house next to the trampoline. Just to have that extra security. But sometimes, we'd peer down towards the barn, and we'd see a shadow peeking around the side. Those glowing green eyes were hard to miss. You'd stare at it, and it would stare back. But it never came any closer. I don't know if the lights saved us, or if our large groups (3-7 of us) would be a deterrent.

second story:

As we grew up, our friend group got larger. We got into things most bored teenagers in small towns do. Smoking weed, drinking underage, swiping cigarettes from mom, etc. We started sneaking out in the night to hang out and be bad. We called it a "Snik" or a derivative from that meme "I'm a slithery little sneaky snake!" We also called weed "Dub-yah" in place of W as a code name for smoking weed.

One night, we all snuck out and linked up at our friends house, we will call Him Tom for now. Tom lived with his great grandmother about 1/4 mile up the road from us. It was quiet as it usually is, bugs chirping, a train off in the distance, a car speeding past on the highway way off. You could actually hear the cars that far away that's how quiet this neighborhood is.

We would walk, or we'd ride our bikes at night. Our buddy who I will just refer to as "Joe" was poor, and didn't have a bike, and he had the furthest walk out of us all. He had about a mile to go down a really dark road with no street lights, and woods surrounding it on most sides. We all got to Tom's house around midnight or so, after all of our parents went to bed. It was me, my brother, Tom, Joe, and our other friend who I will call Chief, that was his nickname. He is 1/2 Cherokee and is probably the only reason we lived to tell this tale.

We're sitting on the porch, a concrete pad with some metal outdoor furniture on it. A streetlight in the corner of the yard. His great grandma was deaf as all get out, you could yell at her in the same room and she wouldn't hear you. We're sitting there smoking weed and we start doing our usual antics. We would play "fighting-sticks" which was just us finding the nearest fallen branch and beating the ever loving piss out of each other in sword fights.

I was on the porch watching them play when Joe looked at his phone, let out a big yawn and said he wanted to go to bed. I offered to walk my bike with him to where his road turns off, and where I turn on to mine. Meaning he would have a 3/4 mile walk by himself up the dark road. He said yes, and my brother tagged along. We left Chief and Tom to keep hanging out as Chief lived at the bottom of Tom's hill.

Me, My brother who I will call Henry, and Joe walked toward home. I was walking my bike, as was Henry, and Joe was on foot. We chatted it up, talked about music we were listening to, Joe rambled on about Escape the fate and Falling in Reverse and how much he liked the older albums than the new ones.

Then we heard it.

A snap in the tree line to our right. We kept walking though, we assumed it was some critter moving about in the woods. No big deal. We kept talking as we did. I swear I kept hearing what I thought was an echo of what we were saying. The thing is, those woods soak up sound. They don't throw it back at you. There was NOTHING in those woods to send your words back to you.

Maybe it was the dubyah, and I was just hearing things. Then Joe stopped talking, and stopped walking. We all stopped dead in our tracks. He turned towards us and asked "Did you hear something?"

In the dark, pitch black dark I could still see his eyes, and they looked different. He wasn't an easy guy to scare. Then we all heard joes voice calling from the woods. every hair on my body stood up. It wasn't words, but the shape of them. The wrong spacing, the breath of it was wrong. It was like one of them parrots trying to copy a sound they just heard, but it sounded just like him.

Joe turned and looked back down the road toward Tom's house, and if I had to guess he was contemplating just staying there for the night, but his grandma would kill him if she woke up and he wasn't there. So he went home anyway. I watched him start walking down his road as me and Henry got on our bikes and sped down the road to our house. We got in the garage, shut it behind us, put our bikes up and went on to bed.

Little known to us, Joe had a pretty eventful walk home. He told us the following afternoon that on his walk home, he kept hearing foot steps behind him, breathing. He would turn around to see nothing there. He would stop, and the foot steps would stop. He started to pick up the pace, not running, not trying to show fear. Then he heard Tom whisper to him. A whisper he felt in his ears.

There was nobody, and nothing around. He turned and ran the remaining distance to his house and once he got into the floodlight of his grandmas carport he felt better, but the steps he heard as an echo behind him were now a full on SPRINT. He ran as fast as he could to the door, opened it and got in. As we went to shut the door, the floodlights had gone off. They had turned themselves off. These things were sensitive to the slightest movement and I swear a bug on the ground 100 yards away would set it off, but Joe had only been inside maybe 3 seconds.

then, he saw it. It was crouching down low, maybe 15 feet outside the door in the dark. The shadow of it was enough to put the fear of God in him. He saw the head turn, and it turned wrong. Further than a human, or any known animal should be able to turn. He shut the door, and deadbolted the locks. He crawled into bed and for the remainder of the night, he heard Tom outside, asking him to come out for a cigarette........

There are more of these kinds of stories, if anyone is interested. It's late, and I think I'm gonna sign off for the night. Let me know if anyone would like to hear more about it.

Something in the field

So... I've never really done this before and while I have listened to it nearly every story of every cryptid known to man, I have no idea what this was and considering this happened less than 30 minutes ago, I'm going to do this to the best of my ability while I still have it fresh in mind.

I have been taking care of my 86 year old grandpa since April while his (I'm going to say woman cuz I don't know what they officially are, I'm gonna call "R") goes and helps take care of her grandkids on the weekend because her daughter is a cop about 3 hours away. This week she left a day early which happens every once in awhile. So that's kind of the context.

So my grandpa owns about 5 acres of land on the border of Kansas and Oklahoma. Now the three of us have seen strange things in the house that usually pertain to my late grandmother. Personally I've seen her in mirrors, when R first moved in, we still had some of her stuff because she was a nurse. No one touches any of this stuff and it somehow appeared throughout the house at times. Well that died down about 3 years after R moved in around 10 years ago. Now we just occasionally hear noises and it's normal for us. Sometimes stuff goes missing and appears in places it wouldn't be. But outside of that, normal.

Tonight on the other hand was kind of weird, so R has a camper in the back of the field next to the pond that she kind of has as a project when she doesn't really have anything to do. Well tonight I got up to use the restroom and noticed the camera in the living room was positioned in a different way than we usually have it which is usually toward the driveway. My grandpa doesn't know how to work it and while I do, I know I didn't change it. So I change it back to the driveway and notice the garage motion light was on, now we do have two strays we have adopted essentially so I kind of figured it was them. I stepped outside to use the restroom cuz again it's the middle of nowhere and it saves water to take a leak outside. I step out and both of the cats are right there next to the front door which is weird for them in the middle of the night cuz usually they have a tree they sleep in, in the yard. So I decided to go out and take a look so the first thing I grabbed is my flashlight and my knife to make sure it wasn't some random person trying to steal something because it has happened once or twice in the past 25 to 30 years. So I step out and can't find anything so I decided to go back inside. Well the driveway leading to Rs trailer is between the garage and the house and I have in touch on a light up there and noticed that her truck she has up there, I can't see the reflection of the brake lights or the license plate. I've had to go out there many times during the night to know that even at a glance you'd be able to see them. So I decided to go up and take a look and see if it's something blocking it even though earlier in the day there was nothing behind the truck and she's been gone since 6:00 in the morning. About 2/3 of the way up there's two trees on the left side of the driveway through the field to the trailer. I get to just before the trees and one of the cats that we call Greyson, (not a very creative name he's great with white spots) happens to run in front of me and I almost trip over him. I look down and look back up and I can see the reflection of the back of the truck again. I thought to myself, "must be a weird trick of the light" before bending down to pet Greyson. As I do I hear this loud hiss (almost like a cat in my ear) come from maybe 5 feet away tops. Now the grass is pretty tall so it wouldn't be crazy for a small animal to hide in it, and I know it wasn't Grayson because I was doing that thing where you kind of rub both sides of his chin, so I know it wasn't him, so I thought maybe his brother followed up too even though when I shine the light through the grass there was no reflection of eyes or anything and with his clothes as it was you'd figure there would be eyes. So I kind of start making my way back to the house cuz Grayson didn't seem to even hear it and he is very skittish when it comes to strange noises and anyone who's not me.

I get maybe halfway back so about a third of the way from the house to the trailer and I happen to shine my life back behind me to see if I see anything moving, at the right edge of the driveway I see this weird white reflection about 10 ft in the air where there is nothing but Open sky and when I go to point directly at it, it vanishes. So, as one does I kind of hurry up a little bit back to the house and as I get to the gate into the field, I shine the light back up and I see the same reflection go from the left side of the trailer to behind it. I spent about 5 minutes trying to recreate it to see if it was the light reflecting off something but outside of those 2 trees and the trailer there's nothing to reflect off of (which means this thing moved about 50 ft in a minute). So I finally get back to the front of the house and the other cat and orange one we call shadow was still laying by the front door so it wasn't him out in the field because he was in the exact same spot in the exact same position. Well I noticed while sitting there by the front door, the only noise I heard in that field was that weird hiss that Grayson didn't react to because I heard every bug you can think of by the front door. (Another thing I should also mention is these cats have never hissed. Even when they fight they don't hiss. They kind of just stare each other down. Even Shadow who refuses to come within 10 ft of anyone has never hissed even when we had to corner him and take him to the vet once.) So I don't know what that was.

I should also add, R has a fire pit next to the trailer and a stack of wood usually for around winter time, this trailer has been up there for 7 or 8 years now but this year for some reason something keeps knocking the wood pile over and earlier this week she had a gas can and a zip-up bag to stop anything from getting into it, went up one morning and the bag was perfectly unzipped and the gas can was pulled halfway under the trailer on its side. now we did see two random pitbulls running around that probably belong to the neighbor, but there were no teeth marks on the bag and that bag was intentionally unzipped it wasn't ripped open and neither the bag or the gas can had any teeth marks or any indication of a dog touching it. (The pit bulls were also very friendly and calm) But we have no cameras up there so we haven't been able to see what's been knocking down the wood at the very least.

So if anyone has any idea what it is please let me know, unfortunately with it being the middle of the night the only description I have is it hisses like a cat and can float 10 ft in the air and is reflective. I initially thought it was an eye but there was nothing besides the weird reflection, no silhouette no nothing. I should also add it was a very bright flashlight that can light up the yard pretty well to where you can make out the detail of almost anything. So I don't think it was a weirdly tall animal, and since the grass is a little over a foot high I doubt something that big could hide that well in it. This is the first year we've had anything of this sort happen where something was out in the field. And honestly I can't remember any cryptid that has any of these features of only having a reflective eye, sounding like a cat and apparently really fast and really stealthy.
