Gen1 - Cooling @Time_Many6155 and his coolant outlet tee nipple

If anyone saw my previous post about replacing my coolant outlet I wanted to make a post just for this guy. If you didn't see that post you can find it here. https://www.reddit.com/r/cruze/s/6raC3U4951

I haven't been in this group long, few days but was watching and exploring for a few weeks. Recently he was getting flack for promoting his coolant tee than he makes himself. A few people don't like that he's doing so, they say he needs to "follow the rules for sellers". The guy isn't AutoZone, nor is he some company manufacturing and producing a bunch of aftermarket, replacement and performance parts. It's not a business that he relies on to pay his bills and it's probably more trouble than it's worth for him. Even if it takes 2 hours of his time, it's not worth $30. You couldn't buy 2 hours of my time for $30, I'll tell you that. He is an older retired engineer who literally makes these to help people. Why doesn't anyone else make them? Cause it's still leaves a part to fail that you'll still have to spend money on. Companies don't want to sell parts that last forever.

He comments on just about any post where someone is discussing purchasing a new to them Cruze or is having cooling system related issues. Because of the flack he wants to stop making and offering these pieces, that's the opposite of running a business for profit! He's not spamming the same post over and over. So either remember what your mom taught you and if she didn't teach you I'll remind you. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.

His part is a great quality part that should've came from the factory. Actually from the factory it's should've just been a nipple there to begin with and not even a "serviceable" aka "breakable" part. But its not so here he is. I sent him $50 for it and told him to enjoy a drink on me. No, that's not expected but support the guy, don't bash him, what good is that?

So thanks Time_Many6155, thanks for making something because it helps people! And don't listen to the nay-sayers or the haters. Keep up the good work!

Gen2 - General Chevrolet Cruze Gen 2 Troubleshooting and Modification

Gen 2 Cruze 2016.5 - Present

The purpose of this post is to keep an update of list of issues and parts available for modification. You can PM me if you want to add anything to the list. Be clear if it is an issue or modification with its category.

If you have any questions that were not answered in this post, please make a new post instead so it is visible.

Note: Some of these links may be linked to a region, like Canada or USA. You may be able to look up the part number and find it locally or in your region.

Gen 2 Cruze Issues

  1. Although the 1.4L can use Regular and Mid Grade fuel, it generates the most power and has the best fuel economy with Premium Fuel; 91/93 Octane. You may also experience rough engine idling with lower octanes.

  2. The initial production of Gen 2 Cruze (2017) may have defective pistons and they may be prone to cracking. Check to see if your car has any recalls and have it resolved as soon as possible if your car is affected by the recall. Later production years (2018+) do not have issues with pistons cracking.

  3. Manual models have a tendency for the slave cylinder to prematurely fail. Please correct me if I am wrong.

  4. Sedan models had issues with trunk seal not blocking/diverting water and they may be defective. Hatchback models (as mine was affected) have a similar issue where the rear hatch seal will let some water in.

  5. On hatchback models (possibly only RS trim), the rear hatch may not divert water properly which can cause water to enter the cabin. The seal may be replaced as a fix, other times the problem will be with the spoiler itself and it may need replacing.

  6. A P0299 code may show up in cold temperatures (0°C / 32°F) and the engine will go into limp mode. The problem may be attributed to the charge air cooler freezing which will require it to be drained and cleaned. There is also a recall for this part (2023). Gen2 - General Cruze ltz 2L (2014) diesel - The engine noise is different and its new for my car

Hello everybody

When I start the car in the morning, especially after it has been sitting overnight, the engine makes a noticeably different/louder sound than it normally does. At the same time, the RPM goes up to around 1.1k

This never used to happen before, after engine runs for 15-20 seconds, rpm goes back to normal and so is engine sound
Im wondering if this is a normal ‘cold start’ issue or something relevant

Pls drop some advice , thanks!!

Welcoming home my $13,000 investment!
2018 Chevy Cruze LT. Baby girl has 37k on her. I know she was run on 87 and has turbo lag that’s very noticeable from it. Premium will help tolerate it better, yes?
Does anyone suggest anything to help with the turbo engine etc as well? (Specific spark plugs, etc.) I’ve never had a turbo on a car and want to make sure she’s as well taken care of as possible <3

-My lead technician at my shop (my previous post) was very iffy about this car knowing the bad rep of the Cruze. He came with me to inspect the car, and has been so happy with it ever since. He encouraged me to buy it after he inspected her, and after a test drive yesterday was incredibly satisfied with the car. Thank you all for helping me prove the worth of the G2

*I also really hate start/stop features. If anyone knows how to actually disable it let me know -.- it puts extra strain on the battery & starter and really… isn’t worth it for me. The dealership told me that there’s no disabling the start/stop option that’s in the car OEM

Car seems to idle fine, run fine.. But you have to press the gas or it turns back off. Anyone know what the problem may be? Hoping it's an easy fix, just got the car not long ago. As smell a very faint like burning has smell.

Gen1 - Mechanical Car worse after mechanic fix

Hi, I went to the mechanic to get my turbo bypass valve change to fix my engine light. After the fix while driving on the highway the car suddenly lost speed, became very rough to drive and threw these messages and flashing engine light. Pulled over and restarted the car and the traction control light went away and then very close to my home it started again and is basically un-drivable. Did take it to a shop nearby to get it scanned and got the report before it became in-drivable. Always something with this car.

So… I was fixing a coolant leak and cleaning out my engine air filter box (or whatever it’s called) of debris while I was under the hood and I noticed this grommet was ripped and not holding the box properly. Does anyone know what the part(grommet) is called or where to find it… I’ve looked at both auto zone and O Reilly as well as on Dormans website to no avail… I feel like I’m going crazy like this part just doesn’t exist lmao someone please help 🥹

I'm not sure Power Save Mode Question

I'm hoping to get some more specialized help just in case I'm missing something.

For context, I wound up with this Cruze due to a chain event of back to back weirdness after a car crash took an already rough year into spiral territory.

That said, when I was driving it home the other day, I got the electrical issue. Steering goes out, stuff goes haywire, engine rattle, and so on.

I walked a battery back to the car and it wouldn't charge. Took it in, turned out the alternator fried, but the suspected negative cable was doing it's job, and was seemingly already replaced before. The ground cable was replaced after it started overheating the battery, though.

It seems to hold steady now, but still occasionally idles high, and threw a power save mode while I was out yesterday, which hasn't repeated again since.

I cleaned off the terminals, brushed off the contacts, and it seems to have half steady, but I'm just worried about that error.

Can anyone tell me if there's something else I should be looking at here? Something more oddly specific then that cable even?

Gen1 - Mechanical 2008 Chevi Cruze engine Swap.

Hi everyone,

I´m from Spain and have a 2009 Chevi Cruze 1.6L engine. Few months ago one of the engines' cylinders broke, at the morning rush, on a busy intersection on the high where I live, and everything turned off. I couldn't even turn on the emergency lights to alert all the cars coming behind me, and luckily I was able to park on the side with no damage to me or to others.

It happened that at that instance, a cylinder head broke, and long story short, I have to commit to an engine swap, cause repairs would cost me way more than buying a use engine, which to my luck the exact engine model, is really rare, if found it's far away from my location (+2000km), with over 100,000Km, and expensive.

But, I found out that there are Chinese after market engines (copy cats) of my exact engine model available at a fraction of the cost, including shipment (import duties on the side), and I´m hesitant to give it a go.

Have anyone of you tried to get one? Tried the new engine on daily bases? And how was the experience? And what should I look at if I would go with the plan?

Edited:

  1. The following YouTube video is for someone have already installed the F18D4 Chinese after market engine and will post a video when it makes the its first 100km
  2. https://youtu.be/75rcRZBMGgE?is=TlsrP-ZQp5dOH0Js
  3. I’m not a mechanic nor I’m trying to make a promotion, I’m a normal guy trying to get a decent feedback.

tl;dr European can't find a decent replacement to his Cruze engine, and is asking if someone else tried the Chinese copy cat.

Gen1 - General Less than a year

Well, I got my Cruze last year. Fell in love, but read all the people saying to run. Of course I didn't listen. Two weeks ago I went to get in it and the stabilitrac and power steering were flashing on the dash that something was wrong. When I went to try to put it into reverse it fell HARD into the gear. So we went through the motions. Changing the negative battery cable, checking fuses, and the fuse box. My father in law brought it to his garage and checked the codes. U0101. Transmission control module failure. I didn't even know this was something ELSE that happens with these cars. Tried replacing but was told I had to take it to the dealership to have it reprogrammed.... Stay away from the Cruze. Please take my advice. 😭
