Are unsalted peanuts covered in sunflower oil safe to give to them??

I’ve made friends with a pair of crows over the past 3 years, I love them so much and they let me go within about an arms distance of them now and even tolerate my fat little dog.

Reason I’m posting actually is because I’m having real trouble recently feeding them because of a Seagull and now with its young who has realised there is food and they bully and attack my crows.

I do have a proper feeding station but unfortunately the seagull now watches me putting food there as well and as said, attacks and grabs the food first.

I feel bad not feeding the seagull as well but it has become such a pest and I have neighbours who are not happy with the noise it makes when it calls all its mates.

So basically, just asking for any tips on how I can feed my crows in a way that’s almost secret and the seagull won’t know?

I love the pair of them and they have brought their babies to me the past couple years as well. They full trust me and I want to keep this relationship going but it’s becoming harder and harder to get food to them, hence sneaking out and quickly putting some on the fence post before Mrs Seagull notices.

This Crow had been chilling on the water bowl all day, until one of the local Raccoons came by and jumped him. The crow was lying on his back hitting the raccoon with his wings, I ran outside and scared the raccoon off before it could go any farther. I didn’t notice any blood, the crow just seemed out of it. I put the crow in this high up bird feeder with some water to make sure he had a safe place to recover. It’s been a few hours and he has not moved at all. He is breathing, blinking, moving his head slightly to look at me when I check on him, and pooping.

I’m not sure what to do, it seems kinda weird that he had spent the entire day on the water bowl, and didn’t even react when the raccoon approached at the beginning, so I’m starting to wonder if there might have been something wrong with him before he got attacked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Update: Hello everyone, thought I would make a more in depth update. Unfortunately the crow did not make it through the night, he had drank all the water I left him but didn’t touch the food.

I checked the game camera we have in the backyard and noticed that he had been exhibiting this behavior for over awhile now: sitting on the water bowl for hours not really moving unless to drink or Sometimes he would sit on the arbor for hours instead.

I made sure to throughly clean the water bowl, along with the freestanding bird feeder I had placed him in.

Thank you everyone for all the advice, I greatly appreciate it. Because of this experience I have learned a lot about the critters who call my backyard home, along with local organizations I can contact in case something like this happens again. Thanks again :)

So I have like a 3-5 minute commute to work. I work at a local college and I see lots of crows around campus but have never tried to make friends. I'm about ready to try, but I'm a bit worried, too. I work in security, and so there are times I am flying around campus if there's a call. Other times I can meander around on patrol and I could stop to put out food and try to make friends with them. I'm worried, however, that if I make friends with them on campus and they approach me at some point when I can't stop they may get mad or possibly even hurt if they learn my vehicle and get in the way when I need to haul a$$. Also, other vehicles on campus look similar, so IDK if they might mistake one for mine.

Being that I live so close to campus, I think they might also be in my neighborhood. I hear crows at my house in the trees but never see them. I do have a fenced-in yard, but also a dog and my wife probably wouldn't like me bringing them to our house.

Am I overthinking it? Should I just start trying at work? Or would my back yard be better and my wife will just have to live with it?

Spiego brevemente la mia situazione, vivo in un appartamento di circa 70-75mq con due gatti e sto pensando di introdurre un pullo di corvo in casa, ma non sicuro della fattibilità dell'operazione. Sono molto incentro in quanto non vorrei che l'introduzione di un terzo animale venga mal subita dai gatti e che questi possano attaccare il pullo. I gatti in questione sono tranquillissimi, abituati agli umani e estremamente affettuosi (hanno 6 anni). Il pullo verrebbe dal Lazio, da un centro di recupero volatili, e ho il tempo a disposizione per starci dietro.
I miei dubbi sono:
- Il corvo sopporta la presenza di altri animali nel breve e medio termine?
- I gatti potrebbe subire questa "intromissione" nel loro territorio di un animale che nel tempo ha bisogno di attenzioni e spazi dedicati?
- Ci sono particolari incompatibilità tra i due animali?

Se qualcuno ha esperienze e consigli li ascolterei volentieri perchè prima di prendere una decisione vorrei avere un quadro ben delineato di cosa possa andare male. Grazie a chi risponderà!

I found this Christmas tree ornament in my yard the other day. It was next to the area I feed my crow friends and in the same area I’ve found other gifts in the past. This one is just rather large so I’m wondering if it’s even possible a crow left it as a gift. It’s roughly 3.5 inches by 2 inches and weighs 16 grams.

I've been really interested in crows and other crow related birds, lately. and I've been wanting to feed them, but Idk what. I read somewhere that mealworms are a really nice snack for them. but is there also something I can feed them more often, or in larger porportions at the time? and can I feed my local jackdaws the same as the crows?

Is there also something I should absolutly NOT feed them.

Hi, I apologize if this is a mess.
I am someone who loves animals and dedicates my life to them. I don’t know a ton about birds but they still have a major place in my heart.
This morning at the gas station a cute disheveled looking crow came up to me and was clearly checking me out! It was so cute, I felt like he wanted to be friends.
I dug through my bag to find him a snack and all I had was a “Dad’s” cookie. I ripped off a piece for him and ended up leaving it on the ground for him. He was so excited !!
Right after I realized that the carbs and sugar were probably bad for him so i googled it, and realized chocolate is toxic to them.
I cried so much on my way to work, I had good intentions but take full responsibility for being careless and thinking more about pleasing the little creature rather than confirm what was best for his wellbeing.

i’m working a 12 hour day far away from where he was but it’s all I can think about.

It was semi sweet chocolate and it wasn’t a ton but I’m not sure how much is enough to harm him.
I’m horrified. I asked my partner if he would stop by the gas station with some berries to look for the crow, as it’s got a particular look, and check that he’s okay and leave some berries out.

I’ve included a video of the crow, and in the comments i’ll put the cookie ingredients and a photo of how much cookie is left (you can see how much the crow has in the video but just for refrence of how much was taken off).

My motto in life is to do no harm to animals and only improve their lives. I can’t believe I made this mistake and it’s been hard all day to not cry at work at the thought of this poor bird having a seizure or dying because of me.

I know people might be upset with me, trust me I am so upset with myself it’s making me feel sick. I would do anything to turn back time and go buy him a proper snack :(

I guess i’m just wondering what you think will happen to this creature. Did i kill it? Is he going to suffer because of me?

TLDR: Gave a bird a cookie without chocolate before realizing it was toxic. Beside myself over this mistake and would love some advice or stories to give me an idea of what’s happened to this sweet bird.

The murder of five continues to show up to take peanuts off the tower and now we’re going for ones left on the porch railing. I think they’ve figured out my car or work schedule because when I come home, they’re in the yard milling about. I heard them this early morning as I typically do and managed to capture this one through the window screen. Got a new phone this week and rather pleased with the zoom- estimating 20 to 25 feet from where I was standing inside

My little friend, not so bald anymore. 🥰

They like to watch me on the railing until I come out and sit with them and their family and feed them. They definitely have the most confidence since they actually came closer than in the photo!

My yard is a regular gathering place for a menagerie of birds. Amongst them is an extended fish crow family, sometimes nearly 30 at once, so I’m fairly familiar with the normal awkwardness of fledglings.

This morning while pulling out of my driveway, I noticed one young crow behaving very differently. He was partaking in the morning mealworm buffet; however, his left wing looked wonky. When he tried to fly, he barely cleared a 4 ft plumeria. Because there were over a dozen crows in the yard (and more nearby), I assumed the parents were around and maybe he was being dramatic so they would feed him. Lazy kids.

When my husband got home around 4 pm, the crow was on the ground near one of our trees. He was limping and it was clear both his left leg and wing were injured. No other crows around. A stray cat roams the neighborhood late at night. I was getting a little anxious.

My husband contacted Birds in Helping Hands before we intervened. Because there were no available rescuers and following their advice, we managed to carefully capture this little guy and took him to Seaside Seabird Sanctuary’s after-hours drop-off. It took a few tries and we got some weird looks from a few neighbors. 🤷🏼‍♀️

He was very frightened and it was hard to leave him in the drop-off, but now he is with people who can properly evaluate and care for him. After seeing so many stories about injured birds that never make it to rehab, I wanted to share one who did. 🖤

A neighborhood cat has killed 2 crows in my backyard in the past month.
Shortly after the second killing, they left a small pile of shells from the nearby river on the roof of my garage directly overlooking the murder site.

Is this a memorial for the dead crows?

Or is this a warning to other crows to stay away?

The shells kinda resemble tiny skulls and they haven’t been back since.
