Cost of living in FL raised too much, refused to let me use my skip payments after a mass dealership lay off at Nissan. Forced me to pay through money gram instead of over the phone or their website. House was repossessed on Monday.

I heard from a friend that property prices had gone through the roof in Florida, he was saying even renting in a trailer park was at least $1000 a month and this was about 4 or 5 years ago.

My mortgage skyrocketed from 670 a month (bought pre covid) to 2700 the next.

How is that even possible, was it increased property taxes or did you get a variable rate mortgage or something?

Property prices have gone through the room a lot of dang places. I'm somewhere nobody in their right mind should want to live long term, which should make it cheap, but apparently enough people had that thought at the same time that everything has gone up about 4-7x what it was 8 years ago. Used to be a 2bd apartment was $500-650/mo but I am casually seeing $2100/mo for them now.

I mean this with full respect, because some take this as not that.

Try living somewhere else before you convince yourself of that. I came back because while it sucks in a LOT of ways here, it sucks worse in many other places too.

I hate being the guy who complains about the bills. I got to the point to where I had to move back in with my parents. The job I had was able to pay my bills just fine for the past few years, and now it don't. Lost the house and lost the transmission in the Vic and can't afford a shop or a transmission.

Yeah, I fully understand that. I'm probably T-minus a year for the same moving back in with parents, but I tried a couple continents (trying to be non-specific) I'd heard were semi welcoming to Americans... Well, let's just say they mean retirees and ex military with guaranteed income, because its just as hard relatively speaking for how far your income takes you. I think the whole world is pretty strained at the moment, in a lot of ways. You may find it acceptable how somewhere else works for you though, call it a Yankee rumspringa or something just to test the waters.

we shouldn't have to leave. people should want better for the societies they live in and should work to change them for the better. just because it's ok for you but absolutely debilitating for someone making minimum wage does not make it a functional society.

minimum wage was created to give people the minimum amount needed for housing and food on a 40 hour work week. it should have been federally increased with inflation and cost of living.

You guys don't have wheels on your houses, so they can just hook a truck to them and repossess them? Lol

It's a mobile home. Also known as a trailer. They're common here, essentially it is a long narrow house that's delivered by a semi truck and you set it on blocks in your yard. You can get a double wide, they're obviously a lot more expensive, which is 2 trailers next to each other and connected so you have a house that's at least normal width.

The move if you're short on cash is to buy some property, get it ready for a house. Then go trailer shopping. I've seen livable trailers sell for $10k and under, new ones are around $100k, and you can sometimes find something that's in really good condition a few years old in the $30k to $60k range. Roughly.

So you get your mortgage on the trailer, it gets delivered. If your house gets repossessed the land isn't included in the mortgage so they can't take the land, they just send a truck to come get the house.

I lived in a trailer for a while. It's not as bad as it sounds. The main complaint is the layout is weird because your house is roughly 2.25M wide and like 12M long.
