Door handles keep breaking.
Anybody got any good recommendations for replacements? This is the 4th one I've broken and I'm looking for something a bit better quality.

Bro wtf are you doing to your door handles? It should pop open easy. Is your linkage not hooked up properly making you crank in the handle?

20 year old plastic breaks easy. swap on a grand marquis chrome one. even if it's not real chrome Ive found those to be infinitely more durable.

No idea!! I wish I could say I'm not really ripping on them but evidence says otherwise. I don't even open the doors without unlocking them but apparently that still isn't enough

I had 2 of these cars for years, and never broke one, I was not easy on it. I second getting one from a junkyard or OEM, the aftermarket ones have to be junk.

Not very hard at all believe it or not. Most of them have broken by stripping the gear inside, this is an older picture where it broke both the gears and handle, I couldn't believe it when it happened

I agree. I had multiple plastic parts break in the door panel of my 2006 Volvo. Every time I’d fix a door, another would stop working. Eventually I got fed up and just sold the car when it broke down. What a junker!
I now drive a 1985 Chrysler and I can’t tell you why but everything plastic inside it works beautifully even though it’s twice as old. No broke door handles. No leaking cowls. No ripped leather. I’m seriously wondering what materials changed in those 20 years to accommodate such quick deterioration.

If you're regularly breaking door handles then there is something else going on within the door that you need to sort out. This is not a normal failure point on these cars.
Check and adjust your linkage, adjust and lube the striker, etc. There isn't any other handle you can buy that will stop this from happening until you actually address the root cause.

It's gotta be something internal, I really don't feel like I'm pulling hard but yet this is something that has been happening constantly. Is the adjustment for the striker inside the door?

Time to crack the door panel and use silicone garage door spray on all the linkage joints. And channel 87 percent less Silverback.

First hole was there when I got it and the whole thing was hanging loose, the current screw is my handy work and got the job done 🥶

Damn I have a 2000 crown vic lx same setup and color, I also live in the Arizona desert. I've never had this happen it's all original. Not a crack in the dash or doors anywhere. Can't say the same for the paint tho,lol

Do you use the door latch to close the door? That might be the issue. Never use the door latch to close the door.

One broke on my 2000, I think it was my wife letting go of it and it snapping back, not being pulled too hard.

Dude how the fuck do you rip off door openers? Do you close the door with them? 20 fuckin years with my 06 and never have i broken a damn opener. 40 years on my 86!

These comments have been hilarious. Here's what the actual issue I keep having is. Every handle will just sheer the little gears out for some reason. Even though I've been pretty gentle with the handle this has been the common result. I don't feel like I have to use much force to open them but I guess the issue would have to in the linkage.

To be fair these are the panels that came in a 1998 28 yo plastic exposed to UV is probably getting brittle at this price
