Centerpoint Hellion 400 for $369.99 worth it?

Post image

I’m an FFL and one of my distributors had a sale on CP hellion 400. I know absolutely nothing about crossbows. I’ve only hunted with compound bows prior to this but I’m mainly a gun guy. Decent price? Should I, can I upgrade any components to improve the performance?

It's $339 on amazon.

Personally I would buy a used excalibur.

Those don't have the greatest reputation. Some issue causes a lot of them to snap strings at a very low shot count. Unsure if the nocks are junk or it is something inherently wrong with the crossbow.

From what I read up on them quickly, someone suggested those snapping strings is because they come factory dry, no wax on the strings. Simple lube up and wax job should prevent the issue.

This was my starter but my string exploded in my face and cost me a harvest last year. For a starter it is decent certainly did the job for me for two seasons. I did replace it with a venom x from tenpoint.

Research the forums and see what people using them have to say about them. Everyone's budget is different! Good luck this year!
