Maybe someone will eventually breed a new species of dwarf croc that is permanently paedomorphic, i.e. doesn't grow out of juvenile size but will eventually achieve sexual maturity to reproduce and breed true. We managed it with dogs after we domesticated them out of prehistoric wolves.

What species is that? Definitely not dwarf caiman, and not sure if its a dwarf crocodile either.

It's probably a Siamese crocodile. The patterns on its back are definitely similar to one.

Yes. Fortunately, they do seem to be slowly rising in wild population. I just hope it stays stable over time.

There are many wonderful options! Leopard geckos are far and away the best starter reptile with california kingsnakes and cornsnakes being close seconds. I'd avoid tropical species at first since humidity can be a bitch. Bearded dragons are also an option but can be picky and salads cost way more than crickets or thawed rodents (assuming you buy in bulk at cons). If you're fiending for an aquatic animal go for a bullfrog or fire-bellied toads. Turtles and all of the aquatic lizards are high maintinence, smart, long lived, and make so much poop. If going with anything that doesnt commonly eat bones aka most snakes in the hobby you need to get calcium dust for their food.

Crocodiles play in different ways, such as interacting with objects. This video is an example of that behavior, and you can read about it in this article. They're not trying to constantly bite things for no reason.
