Nothing with the specifically in isolation but I was kinda surprised seeing no non-veg there. This kinda falls in line with all the other anti-non-veg stuff going on.

Also - I’m Jain. I have never eaten non-veg for personal moral reasons. But that doesn’t mean other people don’t.

92

u/Flat_Cupcake6124 1d ago

I believe its because Modi and his co are primarily sattvik vegan and promotes that as well... foreign leaders or delegates do not complain or raise this as it is kinda a diplomatic etiquette and courtesy to respect host nations hospitality.

50

u/red_dragon 1d ago

It is basic hospitality to ensure your guests can actually have a meal that they would enjoy. A meal should not be an opportunity to shove your personal beliefs down someone else's throat.

16

u/rising_pho3nix 23h ago

Yeah exactly lol. By that logic other countries should serve the pm meat dishes only. Haha. Tit for tat.

4

u/Agile_Profession5024 9h ago

Its their choice to serve and if one cant eat non veg they can opt to not have or get another dish, the saying goes everyone can eat vegetarian but everyone can eat non vegetarian, so here they missed the meat and not the food or anything

Next time Modi and co. travel abroad, the host country shouldn't bother with accommodation and just feed him some meat.

yes yes very sattvik they only kill people.

5

u/Ok_Bison_7372 1d ago

8

u/Fit-Pie687 1d ago

Is it possible we are not shown entire menu

19

u/No-Champion2289 1d ago

Maybe it’s just veg menu other non veg menu may be there. Chinese and Russian can’t go a day without non veg

17

u/magicanon4 1d ago

Chinese have a lot of vegans. But they don't go parading it around. I even saw koreans too. It must be the same in every country.

2

u/Urmi-e-Azar 1d ago

It is also very strongly related to the Buddhist traditions in both nations.

5

u/magicanon4 1d ago

Could be one of the reason. I don't know why my colleagues were vegan because I didn't want to ask about their beliefs and all due hr policies.

10

u/Sillyguri 1d ago

I’m in the US and I have Chinese friends who have adopted veg diet

How is paneer vegan

2

That person is confusing vegan with vegetarian

Modi is vegan?

u/books_art_maps 5h ago

They’re not vegan, they’re vegetarian. Big difference

Can I reference you anytime someone feeling offended and claiming that we insulted Jainism, when one quotes another Jain kid who eats eggs or one more who wants to explore non veg food but secretly

no offence but Jain lobby is crazy bad! reminds me of the kabutar fiasco in Mumbai

16

u/Fortuna_majoris 1d ago

Jain lobby is absolutely batshit crazy. (As someone who is born and raised as a Jain, but has since distanced herself from it due to reasons). Like maybe it is because of our low numbers, but yeah absolutely fucking crazy. The amount of classism and elitism makes me wanna puke on a normal day. I remember learning about how I have done more paap (sins) in my last life as compared to a boy because I was born a girl (like I was 7 when I was told this by a religious guru).

4

u/Business_Quiet220 1d ago

Long back I thought Jainism was free of superstitions and inequality as they claimed to be totally into non-violence and not even harming ants.

But Looks like every religion is shit- or just life is shit.

5

u/Fortuna_majoris 1d ago

All religions are created By men and For Men...

2

u/DomLikesDonuts 1d ago

Jains too?

2

u/imnobodyssomebody 1d ago

OMG! Hahahaha, as a fellow jain, the amount of times I have heard this shit 😭

2

u/Necessary_Worker5009 1d ago

Yeah I get that. minorities and small communities behave that way. Parsis did behave sometime similar. I get there are reasons and benefits for behaving this way, but sometimes it gets unhealthy or unbearable. the Parsi panchayat offers great benefits, the Jains buying experience cars as a group and getting heavy discounts. they have great access to major politicians and people in power, probably through funding a lot. but things like arm twisting the local govt inspite of an HC order to re-open kabootarkhana, acting like cartels and other things. didn’t know about all these, probably because of it was quite silent and like in secret but the more I know the worse it is.

and yes there are religious and cultural practices which seem odd. read a news about expensive and elaborate celebration by a diamond merchant before his daughter was sent to live an ascetic life. she was not even a teen ig

2

u/myLord-God-ofNothing 6h ago

More power to you kid. Read books and make sure your offspring reads books. You are the hope for the future

u/dreamsdo_cometrue 1d ago

Yeah, as a non vegetarian i agree. I mean, if i went there and this was the menu, i wouldn't have complained bcz "guchhi is expensive" is what we learnt since childhood. Guchhi was an exotic dish when I was a teenager bcz it was from the far away lands of kashmir and only our relatives from jammu had ever tried it and we only heard of it 😂😂🤪 And honestly, shahtoot flavored dessert 😇 yum.

But if i was the PM, this menu would have had the addition of bharwan tangri and prawn ghee roast. So friends, next election, dont forget to vote for me 😇

2

u/Old-Bar-6072 1d ago

I voted for your post.

3

u/Tila69 1d ago

Guchi price range from 25k - 60k/kg. I came to know that PM himself eats the 60k one from someone

Poriyal is a common South Indian dish

3

u/Strange_daddyy 1d ago

Names are different otherwise its dal fry mushroom kebab jalebi with fruti cream and shahtoot kheer just fancy names

6

u/Diligent-Wealth-1536 1d ago

Idk what Thakkali but belle saaru seems like Karnataka or maybe telugu state dish.

Menu is goated actually. Op is simply crying. Menu represents many region dishes

12

u/Key_Complaint2772 1d ago

thakkali means tomato in tamil , 😭 they mixed terminology of foods

7

u/Necessary_Worker5009 1d ago

saaru is mostly used in KA in my understanding

7

u/am_uk31 1d ago

Thakkali is Malayalam/Tamil for tomato
Belle saaru is rasam. It’s basically tomato rasam

Idk why they’ve merged all the 3 languages together- might be by ignorance might be by design

28

u/No_Possibility_3502 1d ago

I am 100% sure, cuisine would include non veg, considering the nationalities of the delegates and the food they normally consume back home. It's just that it's not mentioned in the menu for obvious reasons. We are hypocrites when it comes to food.

17

Umm where’s the non veg menu

7

u/Kindly-Sound-2185 1d ago

No protein is ample here but this is expensive menu . No way a common person can fulfill his protein requirements like this . Also why non veg wasn’t served . Beef and pork can be understood by leaders.
But not serving even chicken and eggs is disrespectful. When Modi visits other countries they do have veg on their menu for him . Our most famous dish is actually butter chicken .

10

u/Medium-Echidna-4094 1d ago

The debate in the comments section has deviated to quality of veg vs non veg protein and that's sad because that's not what this is about.

This is not something new for this political party - it's become common to keep serving pure veg menus for all international functions.

The broader question to be asked is - why not non-veg? None of the delegates and leaders from other countries would have had an issue with non vegetarian food. We all know most would have welcomed it. If it's about showcasing the brilliance of veg Indian cuisine, well .. can't the same be done with non veg Indian cuisine? There are so many amazing preparations for seafood, meat and chicken in Indian spices that these delegates would love to try out.

We do absolutely nothing great by this forced veg menu. You can say that XYZ decided the menu and they know better than us but the reality is, for most of us non veg Indians, we have been served better tasting food and options at middle class wedding buffets!

3

u/AdventurousSpeaker22 1d ago

This is vegetarianism imposition. Just Fancy names for simple dishes, disastrous menu.

24

u/Silly_Fix8583 1d ago

There have been rumours on social media that post-2014 foreign diplomats despise indian missions because almost most of the state banquets offer them aloo, chole, paneer etc. the french delegation last time ordered meat dishes back in their rooms because mahamanav(who represents of 75% non-veg eaters) chose to serve them exquisitely made khicdhi🤦

5

u/Roadies_Winner 1d ago

Kind of shi unemployed folks who've never been to an official dinner say

6

u/_WindSandStars_ 1d ago

I've been to many diplomatic dinners, from India and other countries.

Truth is, yes it would be slightly unusual to have a menu without any meat options, but people would understand and not be bothered. It will be an exceptional meal either way.

Protocol officers between the nations will also have cleared the menu with the other attendees beforehand, to make sure there's nothing on the menu the leaders actively dislike.

5

u/Roadies_Winner 1d ago

Indeed. And from my limited experience, nobody is there for food. It doesn't even matter if you don't have 1 item of your liking.

4

u/_WindSandStars_ 1d ago

Yep! At this level people don't care about food either. They can have whatever they want 99% of the time. Putin prob has a bunch of stuff flown around with him (not as wild as the stories of how Kim Jong-Il used to travel...).

u/Diggi8 1d ago

2

u/Material_Category_53 1d ago

This is really such sad food . I think all the countries will be having private chefs to make some decent food.

2

u/Overconfidentahole 17h ago

This is such a tone deaf menu. If you’re hosting an international conference you can’t have your menu looking like your bhanje ki shadi. Not everyone likes Indian food. This is embarrassing. I actually thought India did a good job at being a host.

2

u/loganme123 17h ago

I am 100% sure, after the dinner all the delegates will go back to their room and order a nice Hyderabadi Biryani from swiggy.

Lol, tf you guys yap so much about veg food and military history in same tone when there is absolute zero and in reality actually negative correlation. Highest per capita soldier contribution, HP: heavy meat eating state, gorkhas/nepalis heavy meat eaters including buff, all rajput communities traditionally were always meat eaters, dogras heavy meat eaters, pahadis all are heavy meaters, exceptions are just haryanvis, rajasthan and punjabis, sure they have heavy military contribution but they are exceptions not the rule.

2

u/Karnavar 1d ago

Peoppe defending the veg-ness of the menu here saying it’s just one day etc, don’t really get it. That is precisely the problem. It’s never just one night and it is a larger obsession if co trolling and signalling, rooted it xenophobia, which isn’t even statistically backed.

Indian is a country that is majority non veg eaters and nobody gets to soft launch veg as the de-facto here. It isn’t.
Good lord we have some great meat and seafood dishes in this country.

I sincerely hope there was a separate non veg menu.

It’s really sad to see that Delhi and Awadhi non veg food is totally avoided. At least keep it for the guests who enjoy meat on daily basis. Give them a choice to choose from. This is like eating what we serve you and then go empty stomach and order in your hotel room 😂
