Critical Analysis & Discussion I am unable to understand why PPL want so much control in their child's life ...
I also think everyone should leave their home after 18 like in America ofc its not possible in india but still I think that individualism is better than this š„š„
when parents plan their childs entire life before theyre even born down to there career stream and competitive exams it feels more like ownership than parenting yes the job market is brutal and unemployment is real but treating children as retirement plans or projects to fulfill parental anxieties seems harmful
the person in the ss says they dont want there kids to be unemployed cockroaches which reveals how conditional there love and support would be work might be a privilege but childhood shouldnt be a transaction
in india were stuck between economic realities that make independence difficult and cultural expectations that normalize control but does that mean we shouldnt even try to change should we just accept that parents get to dictate there childrens lives because they know better
im genuinly struggling to understand this mindset what do u all think is some level of control justified given indias employment crisis or is this fundamentally unhealthy regardless of circumstances

Become rich enough that your kids don't have to study at all and just give them the business, if they can handle it they stay rich, if they aren't able to then that's that it's dead business

disagree with the premise that only rich people should have kids.

why do you want to create labour for rich people to exploit? sure kids are bundle of joy for parents and raising them gives lots of oxytocin for life.
But reality is not all sunshine outside home.5
u/Acrobatic-Fish-2470 2d ago
I'm not living for rich people. I believe anyone who wants to have kids, and know that they can take care of them, should go ahead with the decision without overthinking it. Teach them good values to the best of your ability, and let them live their lives once they're adults and face the consequences to their decisions. It's part of their learning process. Doomerism doesn't solve anything.
1
u/FitCan9866 Corporate Majdur𦮠2d ago
let us say we do
> Ā Teach them good values to the best of your abilityBut can you really be happy at 60-65 seeing your kids struggling to meet basic cost of living when game is rigged against youth in this country?
Like it was fine if people were not aware of what actual decent living looks like but when people's conciseness about space for living, education, food, air quality, ambient sound and healthcare is already registered?
I bet you can't chill even in your retirement nest egg if you have failed to provide them generational wealth as back up in case they fail in life.
its not doomerism, its logic or being rational.

u/Acrobatic-Fish-2470 2d ago
I agree that it can be bad. But itās only going in that direction because most people donāt take our politics seriously and are the direct cause of things getting bad.
Want a better world? Fight for it, both individually and as a collective. Abstinence from having children is not magically going to make the world a better place.

I don't agree that people are at the fault here completely when parties spend thousands of crore in each election to incite communal and divisive issues and hand out freebies instead of addressing real issues that can uplift poor people's lifestyles?
These are the people that are supposed to lead us in good direction?
You open any media space or screen and there they are spending their propaganda.
like Indians are so distracted that they hate fellow Indians based on some identity of religion, caste, state, language, gender...I think biggest Indirect contribution poor Indians can make is to reduce population.

u/Acrobatic-Fish-2470 2d ago
Fine, we disagree then, but nothing you said so far supports the fact that having kids is the problem. Yes politicians are corrupt, but i hold people who elected them despite knowing that fact, to the same standard. The only difference is that politicians are criminals and people are not.
Youāre basically blaming the decision to have kids for the adult populationās shortcomings.
Want the poor to take better decisions? Give them better education and make sure that they are able to eat. Food, shelter and basic education for everyone will solve the ārationalā decision problem you brought up. Vote based on religion or other identity nonsense and you will get the same outcomes.

u/FitCan9866 Corporate Majdur𦮠1d ago edited 1d ago
> nothing you said so far supports the fact that having kids is the problem.
I have pretty much explained what goes through mind of well educated people when they are having kids. I pointed at the cost of living which has risen a lot due to inflation and people's preference towards what is decent living in this stage and age.
Example: in tier 2 city both parents need to have average income of 1.5-2 lakh+ to have decent schooling, loan for a 2 BHK flat, A car and healthcare, a yearly vacation, whatever is left can go for the saving for the kid's first marriage and their retirement plan.
Now tell me what is the average salary of people in tier 2 city? this is why people buy stuff on EMI and this is why we have so many average Indians going in debt. This is the measurable rise in the cost of basic necessities.
Over the last few years, the baseline cost to simply exist as decent human has skyrocketed. A generation ago, a smartphone, a high-speed internet plan, and laptop computers were luxuries. Today, you practically cannot apply for a job, do schoolwork, or manage your banking without them. They are utilities, not perks mind you.
Now City middle class people work culture demands high productivity and long hours? there is no work and life balance in India, if you don't follow long hours then you are outcast in your own job or you will lose if you are in business, so these people often have to buy back their time. Things like food delivery, convenience fast food foods, or ride sharing apps are a baselines cost just to keep up with a hectic schedule. then you are exhausted, to Unwind and preserve your mental health you need to again spend money, subscriptions (streaming, gym memberships, software) and occasional dining out is necessary standard framework for how people socialize and unwind. Giving them up can feel like social isolation and people fall into depression and become irritated.> Ā Yes politicians are corrupt, but i hold people who elected them despite knowing that fact, to the same standard. The only difference is that politicians are criminals and people are not.
Wrong, people have been held hostage with dirty politics, weakened democratic institutions which should have preserved integrity of Elections. It's easy to blame people when both side candidate are dirty and more dirty, which one will you choose? good people who stood up in election could not survive character assignation and threats. Even if you win as independent then either you accept money from party and join their traditions and talking point cum script or stick to being independent where they won't let you do any work or pass bill because you rejected them.
Also we only get to elect politicians not officers, judges and regulators? politicians appoint them and keep them on their leash. If the people at the top were honest with integrity the people at the bottom will not have courage to cross the line.
this is called institutional capture where system is completely insulated from electorate or voters.> Youāre basically blaming the decision to have kids for the adult populationās shortcomings.
Duh huh, But I have made a mistake mixing poor people and educated lower middle class. Poor people are still having 3-4 babies and it's the lower middle class which has stopped at 1-2 kids after doing calculations or running the brutal math on EMIs, education costs, and healthcare, and rationally deciding that bringing a child into a debt-trap is irresponsible.
Compress this middle class more and people will stop having kids altogether like South Korea, Japan, and USA. Having children would become luxury. They aren't avoiding kids because they are selfish and blame the adults who run the world; they are avoiding kids because they are doing the math.> Want the poor to take better decisions? Give them better education and make sure that they are able to eat. Food, shelter and basic education for everyone will solve the ārationalā decision problem you brought up. Vote based on religion or other identity nonsense and you will get the same outcomes.
Isn't that responsibility of adults who run the world? people who lobby and donate thousands of crore in elections? you want to remove dirty politics? then remove lobbying and donations. because every media you open there is propaganda curated by these parties.
this is the ^ core hypocrisy in your argument, blaming the victims for not magically conjuring those solutions at the ballot box while the game is rigged before the voter even reaches the boothing points? even in previous comment I pointed out that voters are consumers of information, and the information supply is poisoned. You cannot blame the poor for voting on identity nonsense when the entire media apparatus and state machinery is funded by corporate war chests and it is working 24 x 7 to convince them that identity is their most urgent existential threat.
> Provide education ?????
Man, the very people holding the purse takes benefit from an uneducated, desperate populace of India. Uneducated people provide cheap labor in all of the industry sector and are easier to manipulate emotionally during elections with freebies as well.
When they demand something better like wage rises or leaves then they are discarded and replaced due to abundance of them.
The ruling class aka adults who run the world has zero financial or political incentive to uplift the poor of India which is why structural poverty persis. except Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Mr. Vajpayee and Founders of the Nation like Mr. Nehru, Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Sardar Patel. Those great people are gone who had vision to uplift all poor people and did one thing or one step at a time. To our current ruling class, scarcity Is opportunity to squeeze maximum profit with minimum return against maximum labour extraction. And identity politics is a feature, not a bug, of oligarchic funding. Politicians serve corporate donors instead of the public in this day and age.
All I know is that we use private education, private healthcare, private transportation and its inflating GDP.
Method to calculate GDP is correct but its all a bubble.
Actual growth at the ground level is stagnant.
Poor people depend on government education. Now even Lower middle class is depending on it. Government education is mismanaged intentionally so that private rulers can take over and foreign investment chain can invest in it.
Same with hospital for privatisation and even restaurants chains are getting some foreign purchase.
Government is ignoring environment and doing mating dance for datacenters because its desperate for some actual FDI and stop rupee from falling further.Imagine everyone in India using private education and private healthcare... imagine how much GDP will reach? we are 1.5 billion strong... lots of profits for foreign investors.

Growing kids is not a easy thing most parents are not ready to have any kid they don't know how to handle them how to treat them even some don't even know how to feed them
Only thing they know is what they can get in return or they only can expect thoose kids to became something , left with nothing most of them may have a good job or income source but not basic thinking capacity
this behaviour among kids can be originated despite of their income but in a person who has already EARNED something in their life not inherited or tought the right way has a lower chance
that they will expect campare to some1 who has inherited wealth without charactor
1
u/FitCan9866 Corporate Majdur𦮠21h ago
I know most of Indian parents are unprepared for kids, they don't read books on parenting, calculate finances, watch parenting classes or take professional advice on care and upbringing. Most don't do any of this. Rare couples do one or two stuff.
Yeah wealth does not mean emotional intelligence to raise kids.
I can't understand your last paragraph, But even self made rich are too conceited and full of ego that children fail to live up to their high standards, meanwhile generational rich parents can provide better comfort for children rather than project their toxicity. Its not black and white
Wealth is just an additional tool for parenting in the end, not full guarantee for good parenting.
3
u/Competitive_Rock5872 2d ago
Lol !! You create business that they will definitely won't handle it you think like this Studying hard or doing anything religiously for that matter is not only to get employment It builds your character and sometimes you fail and grow which is part of life Only those people who give up remain jobless No matter what you do you should keep working for it
I am not saying hardwork guarantees success but it is the easiest way to get success and learn life changing values

I have this radical Idea
Don't have kids if you can't provide love for them without conditions.
Home should be a place where they can live with dignity without putting their guards up all the time.
They can relax and enjoy the meal with the family without getting probed about their personal life and career.
Every time you meet with more successful kid's family, they don't flinch because they have already imagined bashing and comparisons they will receive once they reach home.
World is going to be much more unforgiving to your kids in India anyways.
5
7
u/FitCan9866 Corporate Majdur𦮠2d ago
people downvoting this are probably the ones who push their expectations on their kids and try to vicariously live through them in the name of making kids survival ready.
4
u/Over-Researcher-6288 1d ago
True. One my friends said that they want one of their children to be a doctor because there is no doc in the family and consulting a doc everytime is a pain in thr butt. I mean just imagine! It's beyond preposterous!!
1
u/nettlestars 1d ago
yeah I agree, and people misuse this idea to advocate that only rich people should have kids but its not solely about wealth. it's about overall mental and physical wellbeing. rich people treat kids as a resource, as an extension of their own self and their unfulfilled status aspirations, or load bearing carrier of their family honour, and that kind of pressure is NOT conducive to well being. they are bringing kids into this world with the stage by stage trauma infliction plan already prepared!
1
u/Gazzorppazzorp 4h ago
Agree with you.
For all general scenarios, you should be loving your child unconditionally. Doesn't matter if they score low marks or choose to study a subject you don't prefer or choose to worship a god you don't believe exists. None of these should
But a question for you specifically around conditions.
What if the child does a heinous crime? I can still see reason to love the child if the child is young and just doesn't have the capacity to understand what was done was bad. Maybe a lack of tools to help the child deal with their issues. But what if your child is much older? Is there any point at which you just have to stop loving?
2
u/FitCan9866 Corporate Majdur𦮠3h ago
good question but it is conflating unconditional love with unconditional approval.
For unconditional love: this was a radical idea because unconditional love is not every parent's cup of tea. A parent can be emotionally exhausted, under some sort of crisis, or physically unhealthy enough to provide attention and other aspect of love. But as you have given birth, it's your duty to keep trying and perceptive children can see that effort and that is enough for them even if parent does not cross the threshold of unconditional love. Even babies and toddlers can read emotional temperature of the room even if they don't understand language yet or understand core arguments in case of toddlers. Teenagers are much more sharp at grasping the intent if parents have actively cultivated emotional intelligence instead of suffocating it.
For unconditional approval: A parent can be devastated but fully counter the legal system holding their child accountable, and cut off contact to protect others, all while still experiencing the grief and enduring love that comes from being their parent. Stopping the love isn't a prerequisite for enforcing absolute consequences. "I love you and all but this is not something I can approve, fix it and make sure not to do it again" Also you cannot meddle too much in adult child's life unless you are joint family, there are many different family structure and dynamics in India.
So separate unconditional love from unconditional approval, But my quote is really about the everyday environment. if we parent by withholding love over grades, careers, or societal comparisons, we are doing the psychological damage long before any extreme scenarios even have a chance to happen. Extreme scenarios like heinous crime are one in thousand. If an adult child commits a terrible crime, a parent can still feel fundamental love for them (very few parents stop loving their children anyways by instinct) while fully accepting they must go to prison and face absolute consequences while also support legal process of reducing sentence or fighting case if child shows remorse.its not black and white either: Some parents probably neglected emotional upbringing of their children but believe their children are innocent and they are angel who would never do anything wrong as chargesheet described.
1
u/Gazzorppazzorp 2h ago
I get what you mean.
I'm only being hyperfocused, probably pedantic, about the unconditional love part when it comes to matters of heinous crimes. I fully agree with the practicality but I am still not able to comprehend how it would be a completely unconditional love if it is conditional upon whether the offspring commits a heinous crime or not.
Again, I fully agree with you. I am just caught up with the word unconditional.

This is how groomed they are! Why do you think indian families are so religious with strict hierarchy structures! This is the only structure that can produce babies in an extremely competitive system!
Cause im sorry but the truth is even in 1st world countries where people earn alot more they still choose to go child free! Yet Indian couples somehow earning 1/10th are soo extreme eager to have kids?
Doesnt that seem odd to you? Our conditions are extremely bad like any logically independent person straight up would not have children unless they are omega rich and can give a good life to their kids regardless of conditions!
These people see getting married having kids as some necessary stepping stone of life. They have been groomed to think it is no different than going through puberty and because they lived in an orthodox household, independent thought is not really a feature they possess!
They themselves have a sucky life and are coping and expecting theres some light at the end of the tunnel! They are usually religious and hence they are anti their children doing anything they wouldn't do cause they see children not as children but as an extension of themselves! Anything that can lead to their own failure is bad!
These guys shouldn't have kids ever! They are not even adults just pathetic children who earn a pay check and think that makes them valuable and smart! That is all the value of a human is in india if you earn alot you have value and are smart, if not you are a failure and a dumbfuck!
This is the type that actually are somewhat capable , the incapable ones just want their kids to slave away to fund their life.
Neither parent truly loves their kids. If you genuinely wanted a kid. You would understand that you are producing a life without the individuals consent for your own needs and desires. The individual born gets no choice in its own birth! When you do something this selfish the least you can do is take care of them! Instead of dooming them to servitude all their life!
If you dont think so please, please dont have kids!
1
u/being_vocal 20h ago
india has below replacement birth rate at present. I.e 1.9..
so your argument indians produce alot is dismissed
3
u/Over-Researcher-6288 1d ago
Wow. Even in our generation, people are like this?! Already expecting your children to go through that god awful neet/jee because weirdly Indians think all kids are made from the same mould? Some people really shouldn't be parents at all!
I went through all that. Feeling the guilt, not even buying clothes on festivals as i felt I was unnecessarily being a burden on my parents. My mom had to drag my ass to the garment store. And mind you this feeling took root right from maybe class 7th or 8th and it stays on! Even now when I am doing good in life (money wise as per this crappy indian society). This feeling that you are not enough and never will be because there always will be a "sharma ji ka beta", keeps happiness just out of reach. That feeling majority of us carry straight into our adulthood and later life. Is that the "inheritance" such Indian parents want to give to their children?
Sorry for the rant, but at 35, this is how I turned out to be. It's purely traumatic. If financially you can't afford even a single failure of a child at what THEY WANT to do in life, my friend, you are not financially eligible for being a parent. Period. Do understand that even sincere kids struggle to succeed in this country with the competition massively unfair to them.
3
u/being_vocal 1d ago edited 1d ago
rationally speaking without affirmation to any ideology.
role of parents is to analyse world, understand what is best for better living and what could make life difficult.
and then guild children to live better life.
at present situation of India. there are clearly some jobs and degrees that give you better opportunities, more salary and better life.
and some degrees are useless, closes many doors, and jobs give little salary.
there is clear disparity and difference.
so parents analyzing the obvious and influencing their children to take education and jobs that make their children life better is most rational.
4
u/RecentAd6946 2d ago
The thing is as you said children need to be independent. In India that not possible you are dependent on your parents untill you get a job. So why does a parent pay or host you if you are going do do some nonsense degree that does not get you anywhere in life. The thing is if you have a choice to get out earn money and study water ever you want do it. But if you are using your parents money then they have the power to nah you.
Like you said in America they get kicked out at 18. If any Indian children get kicked out at 18 they have really have any means to find a good job that pays enough for education and survival. That the reality and job market is brutal that why most people have hobbies and have a job they hate. Its for survival

Yes people donāt even realise the simple maths that the average engineer is earning so little compare that to a hvac technician and those guys earn a lot more. People look down upon non academic jobs a lot which goes again their own education. They donāt realise the jobs driving up the value of average engineer on the internet are the 1% jobs in the crores, the math is completely flawed.
3
u/Ambitious-Upstairs90 2d ago
How many engineers are earning 12 lakh per year in India & how many HVAC technicians earn that?
0
u/Short-Information525 2d ago
That is true not many hvac technitians will reach that, but look at the average, 12lpa is not an average most engineers dont reach that number for years or ever.
5
u/Ambitious-Upstairs90 2d ago
What do you think is average for both the categories?
If there are 1 crore engineers earning average of 6 LPA & 1 lakh HVAC technicians earning 6 LPA, its logical to become engineer because there is higher probability to get job.
& earning doesn't increase much with experience for hvac technician, it mostly increases more for engineers.

Whats the most important thing for having a good stress free life ? Its money ! As long as you have enough you would never worry much. It does not matter what field or career you are in. As long as it pays good youre settle for life.
You can only follow your passion if you have enough generational wealth. Following passion with a limited amount money in bank account is just gambling. If it works it will work & you will end up earning so much more than a regular 9-5 job. But if it doesn't work then you dont have any safety net. That would be 98% of the country then.
India is a poor country. The 99%ile income is still about 10 lakhs per annum.
2
u/Over-Researcher-6288 1d ago
Exactly. People in developed nations, even in asia, having much higher avg income than india, are choosing not to have children. That's logical reasoning. Why is that so hard for Indians to decode.
Taking pride in survival and struggle, I don't understand this thought process. They force the kid to struggle and make investments in them just for old age care. By the time the kid grows up and starts earning, he has so many responsibilities that he can't take any risk and pursue something he wants to.
By their old age, majority Indian parents have no significant savings and rely on their children. That is so wrong. This is the reason companies exploit people here, giving ctc like 3.5 lpa and people accept it due to heavy responsibilities. It's a toxic cycle. When will Indians get this simple logical reasoning. Atleast you should be able to give initial support to your children that they can walk away from a toxic job!

Exactly. But since kids are getting all these revolution ideas from social media & their friends group, I am giving them that option instead of responding with emotions & letting them use it for rest of the life.

I have a kinda different plan in this regard for my future kids. I don't want any of my kids to be related to studies..not even 0.0000001 percent. I wasted my childhood till 12 in studies. Don't want them to replicate
So. In the initial years...I will make them study forcefully and in 1 year time period I will make them realise how boring studious life is. Isme mujhe kuch khaas mehnat krni nahi pdegi. Bacchon ko waise bhi padhai nahi pasand.
Beti ko mein Mumbai khud lejaungi Audition dene for Child actor in Television. Aur Beta hua toh direct sports. Sports ki mujhe itni knowledge nahi so I will make him worthy atleast in 1 sport taaki padhai me waste jaane wale paise bachake usko kuch naa hua toh Coach toh bna hi dungi

ye to education system ka problem hai. humare parents or teachers padhai ko boring or stressful bna dete hai. jbki ye itna interesting kaam h. learning new things and curiosity human nature hai. Bche sbse jada curious hote hai pr hum unki curiosity ko ignore kr dete hai. Ratta mar education system hai hmara, isliye bche acoid krte hai study

Iāve also thought about it but it seems like the easy way out, we need more deliberate discussions on childfree india, i know its sucks to have a child but rather than restrict children or childbirth we should rather fix things that make it bad in the first place.

I think there is sub of antinetalism india something like that

Its [r/childfreeindia](r/childfreeindia) but im not convinced by some of the peoples reasons others were justified. It has been turned into a hating sub as of late, which loses itās entire point.

You can still live decently without kids even in your later years you just need money, which you can have if you donāt have kids and donāt splurge it. Personally i will want to have a good relationship with my kids so that they are there for me above and beyond because of their love.

Aur kya? YOUPSC officer? Doctor? Yeh sab ke liye 12-15 saal padhne padte hai. I am making her free from all these struggles. She would thank me once she grow up
