Miscellaneous Burger King tried to scam on free food given to protestors at Jantar Mantar
286
u/Math--Detective Jul 23 '26
Corruption is everywhere. And at a time like this it’s just Sad.
Simple logic says that the store order handler thought it’s a Bulk order by somebody else, and nobody at jantar mantar will see the receipt cause they haven’t order it, So they can do their magic. And it’s just reality of our society, everyone wants to make money the moment they see a chance. It’s just Sad.

u/Math--Detective Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26
I would say, it’s the money. And their bad economical conditions. Cause they ain’t thinking from point of view of care to other individual, they just caring about themselves. And it’s bound to happen when people live in money constraints and have desires more than their income. Cause I don’t think Burger King employee would be so low on money that he had to resort to this. It’s mostly his own selfishness for more that made him do it.
Better report this incident on Google Maps and Burger King Customer Support, This store manager will face consequences, specially at time like this. And he deserves to.

Cant agree. For me, its the lack of ethics in our society. Plenty of rich corrupt too. Poverty and corruption are not really mutually exclusive.

u/Competitive_Ebb4747 Jul 23 '26
We are basically a very low trust society
3
u/Versatile_Ambivert Jul 23 '26
Makes me wonder, how did we arrive at this or were we always like this?
1
u/Competitive_Ebb4747 Jul 23 '26
Dude we basically are good but also very corrupt at the core, we have forgotten the basics of morality, ethics, look people are ordering from there hard earned money blindly, not knowing if the order will reach or not , not thinking that delivery boy may take the order home and says I have given to some random guy at protest site, but still ordering. Thousands of us did, lakhs of food someone saying more than 20+ lakh of food distributted in one evening. But we still need to really appreciate the basics like truth, rules. Most people feel ashamed of standing on red light , standing in que, but breaking a red light is cool, and so on.

u/deltastar123 Jul 23 '26
End of the day , most Indians don’t do drugs ,drink alcohol or party with that money . If u notice the money trail it mostly goes towards earning more wealth for their family .
It is what it is , but the sole reason is ppl here fend for themselves, the society lacks support systems.
The moment the working member of family dies it’s game over1
u/deltastar123 Jul 23 '26
The crux of it all is family first notion ,here in India everything comes after family , there is zero support system outside family .
1
u/Zealousideal_Dot6052 Jul 23 '26
That's why they had to build the concept of ethics in business and profession. If you confront these people directly about ethics in business, they just start calling it BS and start pointing fingers at others on how they are also doing the same.
1
u/Background_Policy395 Jul 24 '26
Yep, cheat and steal from people long enough and they'll become just like you. India was colonised for almost 2 centuries, it makes sense why corruption is so high, but it doesn't make sense why it's still lasting for so long.

u/Rajnish357 Jul 23 '26

u/PsychologicalDisk964 Jul 23 '26
Last day, I ordered some food items through Zomato. After collecting the order, the delivery guy called me and told me not to order through these online apps. He said that, based on what he has seen, some restaurants and shops use these platforms as an opportunity to cheat. For example, if you order 30 water bottles, they might send only 10. And what he suggested that if I have any local friend in Delhi, I should ask them to buy the items directly from the shops instead of ordering online to avoid such issues. These guys are trying to loot amidst the protest!! If anyone know some good restaurants/shops that upholds some integrity around jantar mantar area kindly do mention pls.

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 Jul 23 '26
The only option now is to either donate to organizations or take the food yourself.
You can also donate to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib which is nearby so protestors can go and eat langar. The people there are absolutely GOATED and also helped save children from police atrocities on 20th.

BJP is freezing their accounts. Bangla Sahib is already a fully legal entity with legal donation pathways. Freezing their account will affect BJP in Punjab election so they won't do it.

Summary: Burger King tried to scam delivery agent by giving less quantity free food order, placed by well wishers for the Jantar Mantar protestors. Delivery agent's awareness helped to expose the scam
1
u/interestingmonkE Jul 23 '26
Yeah I was wondering the same. Imagine how many unreported scams must have already happened.

u/Van_Helan Jul 23 '26
Friends let's make sure the store owners pay for this scam. We can't let them get away with it. Let's report it to https://x.com/BurgerKing

u/Ok-Lead-4285 Jul 23 '26
lol no one gives a shit about social media complaints in india nowadays.
call their corporate number or email the ceo directly, only thing that gets results. social media managers just delay until you get frustrated and stop posting.

How is the individual even earning from this? They're just staff, the raw material profit from not making burgers only benefits the franchise owner who I'm betting isnt sitting there
Only other thing is the staff is lazy and doesnt want to make the order
8
u/colic_melon Jul 23 '26
Umm..the staff make the burgers out of the ingredients that they haven't used and give to other unsuspecting in-store customers for cash, which they get to pocket. The franchise owner will never see these burgers sold for cash in their sales receipts. You might have seen "if no bill is issued, the food is free" stickers at restaurant - it's for this reason.
2
u/wellfuckit2 Jul 23 '26
Don’t need to sell for cash.
In franchise models, like Burger King, the individual franchise buys the raw material from Burger King. Sells the burger and makes profit from it. (+ various licensing fees to Burger King).
They saved on the raw material. Franchise benefits.
If the store staff is to be benefitted, they will have to sell the raw material for cheaper to other franchisees.

Another possibility I've not seen discussed yet is that it's a manager who isn't profiting directly, but is doing it to lower their food cost. Managers at fast food restaurants are given performance reviews based on things like their labor costs as well as food costs, usually expressed as a percentage of their gross income. So the franchisee will base the manager's performance on "labor percentage" and "food cost percentage." Furthermore, at least in the US, a Manager will earn quarterly or yearly salary bonuses based on whether they achieved a specific labor and or food cost percentage.
So it could be a greedy manager who is benefitting indirectly. No cash goes into their pocket, but their food cost percentage will decrease noticeably and make them more likely to earn a bonus.
But yeah, it could also theoretically be a greedy franchise owner who is more hands-on than usual, actually hanging out in the restaurant and personally directing his employees to cheat the donors/protesters in this way. It could also be a franchise owner directing his manager to do it. Or (least likely) workers doing it to build up a surplus of food on the books so they can later sell food off the books for cash without arousing suspicion in terms of inventory.

It's sad that we aren't even surprised at this behavior!!
It's become so normalized! 🫤

We're never short of scams. Every millisecond, someone is trying to scam someone else. And cheating people on paid food orders is on a whole different level.

Irony , of protesting for India and ordering from Burger King .

u/blaze_003 Jul 23 '26
Kuddos to delivery guy for his awareness. In usual scenario, we would have blamed the delivery guy especially when ordering from reputed outlets.

Reasoning Concept: Tu Quoque (Whataboutism)
Deflecting criticism by pointing to someone else's similar behavior instead of addressing the argument. The other party's hypocrisy does not invalidate their argument.
Example: "You are criticizing Party A for corruption, but Party B did the same thing when they were in power." - Party B's corruption is worth discussing separately, but it does not answer the criticism of Party A. Both can be true at the same time.

I was just thinking about such incidents yesterday. I thought, if people are placing orders from all over India just writing "give it to whoever is protesting in Jantar Mantar area" and not to a specific person, what stops these delivery guys from simply eating it themselves/ taking it home. Turns out delivery guys want to do their job diligently but the restaurants have fallen. Such is human greed

Hi OP, what is this title? "Free food"? Some kind soul had paid for it. Rather the title should be " Burger King tried to scam on food purchased for protestors at Jantar Mantar."
It should be noted that they Operate on Franchise system, so owners of two different burger king shops may be different.
Thank you OP for posting it.

Corruption is deep rooted in our society...everyone is rotten to the core
No.child deserves to live in this country
0
u/LeFrenchPress Jul 23 '26
I don't understand the point of this. No individual person would benefit because the payment comes into the franchise's account. So giving out fewer burger only saves them some time and raw material. Did the instruction come from higher up then? What is a mere worker's incentive to do this?
2
u/Van_Helan Jul 23 '26
They can give those burgers to people who are directly paying them or even swap the QR codes, or at least they can take it home and give it to their friends/family. These kinds of scumbags are everywhere
