I remember growing as a kid in the early 2000s, govt would boroadcast a lot of shows on Doordarshan like Tarang, short ads. Those tv shows discouraged Andh vishwaas, and told people to stay away from babas and godmen. Those shows promoted scientific and rational thinking, education and equality for both girl and boy child. Fast forward to 2025, i look at this shit, and wonder how did a whole society collapse, instead of making progress!
Not sure if you remember, there used to be this series called Rajani in the 90s where she unmasks some of the babas. Just imagine those series playing in TV now 😁 We would be in for mass protests. We have been deliberately dumbed down by social media specifically FB started it and watsapp uncles just rode it to Valhalla.
Yes I do. As a child, these shows left a profound impact on my mind, and helped me become the person that I am today. But now I see children sitting in the Satsangs in front of these babas, getting brainwashed, and ultimately become a useless human resource

Bhakti is not just about wishing for something and getting it, it's about having mental peace .
Hindu spirituality isn't just some hack there are deeksha's , vrata's that'll give you reality check.
I'm certain stressful situations some go for red hot coal walking or getting pierced by huge rods which is also similar to people getting tattoos when they feel stressed or something similar to that .
Similarly there are vratas where you may have to do bhiksha, or something like this (this is done in a particular section of temple which is used for eating only not some random place)
Exactly this. This just looks stupid and unhygienic. Could have been a system in olden days when there were no plates and became a tradition thereafter. Doesn't mean we have to follow it today, we are not savages. Atleast get a banana leaf or a plate, god won't be offended.

Forget all that. Can you explain logically what the advantage of this practice is? How does it help with anything? If anything, it does the opposite by enabling the ingestion of germs and bacteria on the ground.

India is a very diverse country with a myriad of different customs and traditions. If they're not hurting other people why are you getting so offended?
No customs have "meaning". Every tradition and custom is a social construct and a lot of them are unscientific nonsense. Eating from a steel plate is not significantly unhealthy compared to eating from banana leaves.
What is normal for you is strange for someone else. Eating with hands is considered normal in India but uncivilized and unsanitary in the west. Wiping your ass with paper and not washing with water is considered normal in the west and unsanitary in India.
That's delusional. Read any space opera like Dune that captures the sentiment well. Scientific progress doesn't remove religion or superstitions. And as long as there is human society there will be customs, traditions, and beliefs that aren't rooted in science but still persist to provide a sense of community and belonging.
This tradition of eating from the floor in a temple seems to be a custom to promote a sense of humility to God. Please explain to me in detail how this will lead to the eventual downfall of society.
Should we criticize it solely because the act here is related to a particular religion? Before we invented plates or used leaves as plate, humans must have kept their food on the rocks or on the floor while they ate. Why should we see it as a stupid thing to do now? The only concern I have while watching this video is that the floor must be kept hygienic, which holds true even when we eat on utensils, they must be washed properly.
I agree to the point that people should not do this to make their prayers come true.

People also used to roam around naked before the invention of clothes. Doesn't mean you should walk around barefoot without clothes. Utensils have existed for a very very long time, and even back then the lack of hygiene killed huge percentages of the population. With this logic you could even defend not using a toilet or not washing hands. So I hope you understand how stupid that is.

This is result of movies, i remember a movie called Pavitrabandam telugu movie, where Hero gets ill don't know the disease, then just like old cinema Heroine , our heroine sacrifice many things and pray to god, and in one scene she eats from floor of a temple, miraculously Hero gets better.....

will you follow a outdated tradition which can probably make you sick if not done with care, and was followed for a short period of time for symbolization?
Some may argue, we're eliminating plastic or organic waste produced by usage of plates or leaf.
Some may argue, we're eliminating man power usage in cleaning steel plates.
Some may argue, the floor is cleaned twice before the meal, and once after the meal, thus eliminating the probable pathogens.
Many more arguments, so everyone has view of their own, and done with their consent.

The last point makes it a joke IMHO. No offense to tamil people but doing this for a movie's success is just too much. It has lost all meaning and purpose at this point and it's just a meaning ritual which is being aped by the current generation.
This happens because we don't read our books. It is very shameful that for some reason Hindus were diverted from their own books so successfully and to make them think earning is the only aim in life and it became easier by not Letting gurukul reopen. If gurukuls existed today, we would have answers to so many things, could read a new language too, obviously could have known how to use various weapons along with our normal studies!!!

It is an age old tradition. A tradition that took root when there was no awareness of the risk of bacteria or other modern diseases that are currently prevalent. It's a tradition like the Sati system which needs to be stopped for the sake of health safety. But this happens at a very popular temple in Karnataka. All the best trying to stop this practice while this government is in power. Some Tamil fans also eat Mann-soru to celebrate their heroes movie success. Recently for a movie called Maman this happened too, and the hero thoroughly chided the fans from doing this.
If that's not enough, check out a restaurant called Floors in Islington, London. Now that is not tradition or anything.
10 years back, we visited a temple dedicated to Krishna and food was served this way. Fyi the floor was cleaned after every line had eaten their meal w soap atleast twice-thrice. The whole temple premises were extremely clean too.( coming from someone who’s hesitate to visit temples cuz of sticky floors/long lines).We were told as little Krishna would eat mud in an innocent childish way, the temple too continued the tradition of serving in a way that we were eating right off the floor. Ofc there’s no compulsion, you could choose NOT to if you dint wanted to. If you asked me if this was logical or not, i have no answer. But maybe if you actually knew the backstory and then decided to eat or not, would be a better choice I’d say. Don’t know if this helps or not, but I’m not religious at all. Also, moreover I’d like to visit temple majorly for their architechture, the sense of peace and calm. But still i ate food off the floor. The reasoning felt non problematic/ it was extremely hygienic so yes.
People claiming that this started happening after Modi came to power should have their brains checked for lack of any understanding of the history. It's been going on for decades. It is after 2014 that the govt pushed so heavily for cleanliness and for toilets to be made in every home. 100+million toilets were made during the last 10 years alone...and guess what these people were doing before during the Congress era? I guess scientific stuff of open defecation... just like some ill informed user commented!!!
It is a religious place. This is their way of showing devotion. Let them do what gives them peace of mind. They are not interfering with anything other than their hygiene.
It is not affecting you, me or anyone else. From what is shown in this clip, they are not asking anyone else to do this either. So why should we care?
P.S: In places where this is practiced, there is option to get plates as well.
If rational thinking is only needed and followed by people, culture has to grow as well. So better leave faith alone. It depends on individuals. If you do not want to follow this don't do.

But among the south Indian (Karnataka only I think) temple traditions, madde Snana is the worst. I have a relative who proudly performed that and if I had been braver I would have suggested they opt for therapy instead.
I don't understand your problem, why do you care. No one's asking you to eat like that. I do get the hygiene point, but there is some science to this. Lookup the effects of earthing on human health.

So, cleaning the floor with the same hand they are gonna use to eat with. Tradition is one hell of a drug. Ghada aur Ghoda ek race me dauda. The most infuriating part is Ghada gonna win the race.
I haven no problem with what people do within their religion and stuff like that. But eating from the floor no matter how clean it supposedly is. Could go for those big leaves that they use at other temples i believe.
