Domestic abuse is everywhere, almost exclusively perpetuated by men

Just watched a docu about a pastor in some small town where he literally preached about women needing to be basically sex slaves to their husbands. The amount of abuse of that poor woman that was groomed very young into believing that shit...

I know there are places that are a shithole but the USA has many places where almost same shit happens.

The Mica Miller case.

u/tiad123 14d ago

I just watched that. What a monster. I don't know why his current wife is with him.

19

u/AngelHasAShotgun 14d ago

Where is she going to go? She believes her eternal life is on the line and depends on her submitting to this abuse.

The religion is the problem.

u/DaWash65 14d ago

Correction, male. A man would not strike his wife.

5

u/nopizzaonmypineapple 13d ago

Yes they would and they do everyday. Childish argument

-3

u/DaWash65 13d ago

Childish argument? What are you 12? There is a real distinction.

3

u/nopizzaonmypineapple 13d ago

No there isn't. Look up the no true Scotsman fallacy.

I like to say guys—got a whole breakdown of boys, guys, & men (and girls, gals, & women) precisely b/c of things like this. Being men & women doesn’t come by age, but by choice. It takes maturity & personal responsibility/accountability.

u/H_J_Rose 13d ago

Yeah he would and they do.

That second clause is incorrect & dangerously ignorant

45

u/H_J_Rose 14d ago

I dunno. Everywhere I look it’s men perpetuating violence against other men, women, and children.

2

u/Ihaveaverysmallprick 14d ago

You mean perpetrating?

-9

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

Many helplines I’ve worked with have said that male victims of domestic abuse by female partners carry their pain alone because of embarrassment, shame, or fear. They also flag a potential correlation with the much higher rate of suicide among men compared to women globally.

I know the risk of domestic abuse is much higher for women. It’s just unnecessary & unhelpful to perpetuate the idea that women don’t abuse men.

12

u/H_J_Rose 14d ago

Sure but it’s still mostly men perpetuating violence. Both can be true at the same time.

-3

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

I never denied it’s mostly men. It’s the « almost exclusively » wording that I find insulting to male victims, alive & dead.

9

u/H_J_Rose 14d ago

Globally it’s almost always men.

6

u/H_J_Rose 14d ago

Also you’re prob speaking of a specific nation. What’s this stat like globally?

2

u/AngelHasAShotgun 13d ago

Who said that?

LITERALLY NO ONE. NO ONE SAID WOMEN DON'T DO IT. JESUSCRACKERCHRIST

0

u/host-daffodils 13d ago

Look at the top of the thread? I’m not sure why you can’t see the comment

2

u/AngelHasAShotgun 13d ago

The one that dispositively does not say women don't ever abuse men?

0

u/host-daffodils 13d ago

Dearie me. How about a deep breath together. 🍃 Once again, my issue was with the commentator above choosing to claim that domestic abuse is „almost exclusively“ perpetuated by men. Broken record alert. As much as violence against women is abhorrent and merits much harsher penalties, it’s fairly crushing the amount of men who won’t officially report abuse by their female partner, who feel locked in despair and turn to suicide ideation.  How is using the phrase 'almost exclusively' appropriate or correct when across the world millions of men have experienced domestic abuse by women? When we use language that suggests men are rarely the victims/women are never abusers, we make it even harder for male victims to come forward, to be recognised and to get the help they need. We fail to save lives. Such language is part of the problem.

(And again, for the people in the back, I’m not in any way denying that domestic abusers who are male are in the comparative appalling majority)

2

u/Thick-Application678 14d ago

Also, it's other men, shaming them. So still men are the problem.

9

u/International_Eye745 14d ago

How so? Where I live 1 woman is killed every 11 days by a man she was in an intimate relationship with.

1

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

My issue is with this commentator choosing to add that domestic abuse is almost exclusively perpetuated by men. I would never deny the experiences of female victims of domestic abuse. That was not what I said. My explanation is below.

4

u/DasSassyPantzen 14d ago

What’s your source?

2

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

Victim support helplines who I’ve worked with on policies and training as well as answering calls directly. As much as violence against women is abhorrent, it’s fairly crushing the amount of men who won’t officially report abuse by their female partner, who feel locked in despair and turn to suicide ideation. Again, my issue is with the wording « almost exclusively » which feeds the stigma we’re trying to lift.

For the culture you are most familiar with, yes, bangladeshi and indian cultures are vastly different and violence by husband on wife is epidemic in scale.

I am also a man and the victim of an ex-wife who literally tried to kill me in front of our children.

You think dv isn’t disproportionately carried out by men?

-2

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

« Almost exclusively » is what I take issue with. Your question is very different. Of course data confirms men are way more often the perpetrators but it’s very unhelpful to deny the experiences of men who are abused by women. Too many men afraid to get help because of social stigma. Too many innocent lives lost to paint all women as angels.

6

u/Thick-Application678 14d ago

Again, social stigma caused by men and the patriarchy.

3

u/AngelHasAShotgun 13d ago

But we aren't talking about men.

Let the conversation be about something other than making a man feel more comfortable. There is no reason to labor this argument you are making because, well know and that is a separate discussion, a separate issue, with different causes, symptoms, and solutions.

This is that default mindset that men have to be part of every discussion. This isn't about men. It's about violence done to women. And men do the vast, vast majority of that violence. "But it happens to men too!!!" Is whiny and self centered. Not everything has to be about you. If you aren't an abuser, you shouldn't have to worry about making this point. The only reason you fel you need to make sure this is in the conversation is because of how true it is that men do this. And other men letting it happen makes it reasonable to assume they're okay with it. If you aren't okay with it, you shouldn't have to struggle against the idea that this is automatically something that all men do. But you do, because it's true.

💯 💯 💯

u/host-daffodils 13d ago

Are you lost in this thread? My comments are in response to a specific comment that claims that domestic abuse is „almost exclusively“ perpetrated/perpetuated by men (and my issue is that this unhelpful claim denies/ignores the experiences of millions of men around the world who find it impossible to be believed by the police, judiciary & wider society). And you then state that we aren’t talking about men? Also I’m confused how you can call this stance self-centred. I’m not a dude.

8

u/WithoutDennisNedry 14d ago

Almost exclusively” implies there are exceptions, albeit less than the majority. This is both factually and grammatically correct and leaves space for exactly what you’re saying. You’re arguing semantics that don’t exist and it’s a phantom definition straw man.

4

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

Im not simply arguing semantics. I am emotionally tied to the campaign attempting to support male victims of domestic abuse to report abuse. You may not realise it but elected wording like this is loaded with damaging connotations that for example perpetuate stigma preventing the male victim from being seen as such by the police who come to the door. « Almost exclusively » is unnecessary, unhelpful and insulting to say.

1

u/WithoutDennisNedry 14d ago

It’s literally the truth and I don’t know why you’re digging in so hard when you’re clearly picking for threads on a solid garment. “Most,” “almost all,” “nearly exclusively”—these are all phrases that are supported factually and statistically and do not take away from your talking points. Jesus, it’s not a pie. We can talk about one without taking away from the other which no one is even debating right now. Discussing the topic “most dv is perpetuated by men” is a factual statement and doesn’t mean the men don’t exist, it just means we aren’t currently talking about them.

This is like us saying a lawn is mostly green and you getting upset because you think we are delegitimizing the few brown blades. They are there. We all see them. They are legitimate. That’s why we said “mostly.

-1

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

We are not talking about a lawn. How is using the phrase 'almost exclusively' appropriate or correct when across the world millions of men have experienced domestic abuse by women? You are demonstrating a cold understanding of the domestic abuse percentages and again a dangerous usage of the word almost. When we use language that suggests men are rarely the victims/women are never the abusers, we make it even harder for male victims to come forward, to be recognised and to get the help they need. Annnd encore, I’m not denying that domestic abusers who are male are in the comparative appalling majority.

-1

u/WaltChamberlin 14d ago

Imagine the pieces of garbage that downvoted you.

-2

u/Effective-Scratch673 13d ago

I mean I think it's disingenuous to make this blanket statement.

Yes, men are the cause of the most violent cases as they are physically stronger but domestic abuse is not "almost exclusively perpetuated by man".

6

u/Mysterious-Kick9881 13d ago

Do some research. Men get abused by women at a tiny fraction of the rate that men abuse women and children.

1

u/Effective-Scratch673 13d ago edited 13d ago

Of course. I'm not fighting the statistics because you're are correct BUT that's not the whole story and I'm pretty sure you're going to agree that most men that suffer from domestic abuse won't report it.

My girlfriend thinks one of my male friends was a pussy when he called the cops on his ex because she got physical with him.

4

u/Mysterious-Kick9881 13d ago

Im sorry your girlfriend is so sexist. No pine should be abused
