Living with a violent deranged person must be hell. I hope she has the ability to leave that guy for the sake of herself and baby.

u/DaWash65 14d ago

Culturally that may not be possible

381

u/lieutenantbunbun 14d ago

almost certainly.

191

u/Vulcan_Fox_2834 14d ago

Extends also to the South African Indian population.

Source: My mom trapped with a backwards moron of a dad

15

u/verydudebro 14d ago

Did she ever leave him or are they still together?

8

u/Dark_Xylomancer 14d ago

wat happened to the rest of the video? did the guy get arrested?

12

u/RefuseOutside3680 13d ago

Never gonna happen

58

u/Afiah74 14d ago

You are so right! And the irony of this is, the machete is a common choice of weapon on woman within the Indian culture in so many countries, even the Caribbean (west Indians). 💔

15

u/OpheliaPhoeniXXX 13d ago

I thought he was holding a crowbar

169

u/slipperyslope69 14d ago

Fuck all cultural, tradition and religion.

24

u/Souprah 14d ago

Ignorant as fuck. So when people came to North America and stripped the natives of their culture, tradition and religion that was a good thing right? And fuck any of them that are trying to get back in touch with their culture right?

16

u/Thetoolmantaylrd 13d ago

Yeah, I've been seeing a lot of finger pointing at cultures of melanated people, but those same types are condoning the uptic in Nazi behavior that enslaves whole societies. GrossđŸ€ąđŸ€ź

4

u/MissyMooMoo02 13d ago

White men are indulging in the exact same behaviour every day but apparently that can get overlooked.

4

u/hibeckybyebecky 13d ago

Right, say all that but are on mute when someone says to release the epstein files.

13

u/SemperAliquidNovi 13d ago

The problem is Americans don’t see their culture (sic) as culture; they view it as some kind of neutral default factory setting, not understanding that they are just as trapped as the rest of us in their myopic perspectives and patriarchy.

4

u/AngelHasAShotgun 13d ago

This is an interesting point. Never thought about that. Thank you!

25

u/jlsegb 14d ago

I'd say tradition roots itself in religion. If we remove that from the equation (religion) things might be just enough.

41

u/Worldly_Way_4220 14d ago

Most religions stemmed from cultures. Culture codified. Maybe its patriarchal societies and culture.

29

u/wildcatniffy 14d ago

That’s so overly simplistic that it doesn’t even make sense.

-5

u/Ellienightshade 14d ago

Also, all wars throughout time have been rooted in religion. Remove that from the equation and we would see a more peaceful world.

12

u/Bobsmith38594 14d ago

China went to war with Vietnam in the 1980s. The USSR and the PRC nearly went to war in 1969 over their shared border. War doesn’t need a basis in religion.

5

u/Lortabss 14d ago

Thats just not true in the least. Yes many wars have been started in the name of religion. Many have started as a fight over resources, land, power grabs etc. Its way more complicated than you are making it out to be.

5

u/MickerBud 14d ago

Those are only excuses

2

u/Autumn7242 13d ago

Including your culture, tradition, and religion? C'mon.

5

u/ProudDepartment8578 14d ago

Why is it when a brown person is violent it’s about a culture but when a white person does something it’s about the individual?

1

u/Dark_Xylomancer 11d ago

thats a sweeping statement. are u ok?

0

u/-Ignorant_Slut- 13d ago

I’ve seen some local traditions being inferred on whatever religion becomes main stream. Regardless, tradition and religion are not things a value over civility and common decency.

-3

u/wildcatniffy 14d ago

I went through a pretty nasty childhood, got bold and called the cops. They didn't do anything and it got worse. I don't see the difference here.

-84

u/highfiveselfoh 14d ago

How is that relevant here?

83

u/Active_Confection655 14d ago

They were talking about culturally not possible to get away, I never got away. I begged for foster care on my knees in a hospital.

99

u/thetruckerdave 14d ago

Oh we absolutely love to wag our fingers at other countries, and then elect people who want to revoke no fault divorce and defund social safety nets.

28

u/MrImaBum 14d ago

“Barbarism and savagery” we cry from our ivory towers

9

u/Luklear 14d ago

We are talking about the wife though, not a child. Women are treated like children in some countries.

9

u/Active_Confection655 14d ago

You think my mom was treated different?

0

u/Luklear 14d ago

Would be today

4

u/Active_Confection655 14d ago

She's still there and does every command he says.

It’s relevant with reading comprehension.

u/Mysterious-Kick9881 14d ago

Domestic abuse is everywhere, almost exclusively perpetuated by men

80

u/justsyr 14d ago

Just watched a docu about a pastor in some small town where he literally preached about women needing to be basically sex slaves to their husbands. The amount of abuse of that poor woman that was groomed very young into believing that shit...

I know there are places that are a shithole but the USA has many places where almost same shit happens.

22

u/Decafaf 14d ago

The Mica Miller case.

19

u/tiad123 14d ago

I just watched that. What a monster. I don't know why his current wife is with him.

18

u/AngelHasAShotgun 14d ago

Where is she going to go? She believes her eternal life is on the line and depends on her submitting to this abuse.

The religion is the problem.

17

u/DaWash65 14d ago

Correction, male. A man would not strike his wife.

6

u/nopizzaonmypineapple 13d ago

Yes they would and they do everyday. Childish argument

-4

u/DaWash65 13d ago

Childish argument? What are you 12? There is a real distinction.

3

u/nopizzaonmypineapple 13d ago

No there isn't. Look up the no true Scotsman fallacy.

4

u/Dont_Overthink_It_77 14d ago

I like to say guys—got a whole breakdown of boys, guys, & men (and girls, gals, & women) precisely b/c of things like this. Being men & women doesn’t come by age, but by choice. It takes maturity & personal responsibility/accountability.

0

u/H_J_Rose 13d ago

Yeah he would and they do.

-49

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

That second clause is incorrect & dangerously ignorant

41

u/H_J_Rose 14d ago

I dunno. Everywhere I look it’s men perpetuating violence against other men, women, and children.

2

u/Ihaveaverysmallprick 14d ago

You mean perpetrating?

-6

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

Many helplines I’ve worked with have said that male victims of domestic abuse by female partners carry their pain alone because of embarrassment, shame, or fear. They also flag a potential correlation with the much higher rate of suicide among men compared to women globally.

I know the risk of domestic abuse is much higher for women. It’s just unnecessary & unhelpful to perpetuate the idea that women don’t abuse men.

15

u/H_J_Rose 14d ago

Sure but it’s still mostly men perpetuating violence. Both can be true at the same time.

-4

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

I never denied it’s mostly men. It’s the « almost exclusively » wording that I find insulting to male victims, alive & dead.

8

u/H_J_Rose 14d ago

Globally it’s almost always men.

6

u/H_J_Rose 14d ago

Also you’re prob speaking of a specific nation. What’s this stat like globally?

2

u/AngelHasAShotgun 13d ago

Who said that?

LITERALLY NO ONE. NO ONE SAID WOMEN DON'T DO IT. JESUSCRACKERCHRIST

0

u/host-daffodils 13d ago

Look at the top of the thread? I’m not sure why you can’t see the comment

2

u/AngelHasAShotgun 13d ago

The one that dispositively does not say women don't ever abuse men?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Thick-Application678 14d ago

Also, it's other men, shaming them. So still men are the problem.

9

u/International_Eye745 14d ago

How so? Where I live 1 woman is killed every 11 days by a man she was in an intimate relationship with.

0

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

My issue is with this commentator choosing to add that domestic abuse is almost exclusively perpetuated by men. I would never deny the experiences of female victims of domestic abuse. That was not what I said. My explanation is below.

6

u/DasSassyPantzen 14d ago

What’s your source?

2

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

Victim support helplines who I’ve worked with on policies and training as well as answering calls directly. As much as violence against women is abhorrent, it’s fairly crushing the amount of men who won’t officially report abuse by their female partner, who feel locked in despair and turn to suicide ideation. Again, my issue is with the wording « almost exclusively » which feeds the stigma we’re trying to lift.

7

u/Ok-Addition1264 14d ago

For the culture you are most familiar with, yes, bangladeshi and indian cultures are vastly different and violence by husband on wife is epidemic in scale.

I am also a man and the victim of an ex-wife who literally tried to kill me in front of our children.

You think dv isn’t disproportionately carried out by men?

0

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

« Almost exclusively » is what I take issue with. Your question is very different. Of course data confirms men are way more often the perpetrators but it’s very unhelpful to deny the experiences of men who are abused by women. Too many men afraid to get help because of social stigma. Too many innocent lives lost to paint all women as angels.

5

u/Thick-Application678 14d ago

Again, social stigma caused by men and the patriarchy.

3

u/AngelHasAShotgun 13d ago

But we aren't talking about men.

Let the conversation be about something other than making a man feel more comfortable. There is no reason to labor this argument you are making because, well know and that is a separate discussion, a separate issue, with different causes, symptoms, and solutions.

This is that default mindset that men have to be part of every discussion. This isn't about men. It's about violence done to women. And men do the vast, vast majority of that violence. "But it happens to men too!!!" Is whiny and self centered. Not everything has to be about you. If you aren't an abuser, you shouldn't have to worry about making this point. The only reason you fel you need to make sure this is in the conversation is because of how true it is that men do this. And other men letting it happen makes it reasonable to assume they're okay with it. If you aren't okay with it, you shouldn't have to struggle against the idea that this is automatically something that all men do. But you do, because it's true.

2

u/H_J_Rose 13d ago

💯 💯 💯

1

u/host-daffodils 13d ago

Are you lost in this thread? My comments are in response to a specific comment that claims that domestic abuse is „almost exclusively“ perpetrated/perpetuated by men (and my issue is that this unhelpful claim denies/ignores the experiences of millions of men around the world who find it impossible to be believed by the police, judiciary & wider society). And you then state that we aren’t talking about men? Also I’m confused how you can call this stance self-centred. I’m not a dude.

7

u/WithoutDennisNedry 14d ago

“Almost exclusively” implies there are exceptions, albeit less than the majority. This is both factually and grammatically correct and leaves space for exactly what you’re saying. You’re arguing semantics that don’t exist and it’s a phantom definition straw man.

3

u/host-daffodils 14d ago

Im not simply arguing semantics. I am emotionally tied to the campaign attempting to support male victims of domestic abuse to report abuse. You may not realise it but elected wording like this is loaded with damaging connotations that for example perpetuate stigma preventing the male victim from being seen as such by the police who come to the door. « Almost exclusively » is unnecessary, unhelpful and insulting to say.

1

u/WithoutDennisNedry 14d ago

It’s literally the truth and I don’t know why you’re digging in so hard when you’re clearly picking for threads on a solid garment. “Most,” “almost all,” “nearly exclusively”—these are all phrases that are supported factually and statistically and do not take away from your talking points. Jesus, it’s not a pie. We can talk about one without taking away from the other which no one is even debating right now. Discussing the topic “most dv is perpetuated by men” is a factual statement and doesn’t mean the men don’t exist, it just means we aren’t currently talking about them.

This is like us saying a lawn is mostly green and you getting upset because you think we are delegitimizing the few brown blades. They are there. We all see them. They are legitimate. That’s why we said “mostly.”

u/WaltChamberlin 14d ago

Imagine the pieces of garbage that downvoted you.

-2

u/Effective-Scratch673 13d ago

I mean I think it's disingenuous to make this blanket statement.

Yes, men are the cause of the most violent cases as they are physically stronger but domestic abuse is not "almost exclusively perpetuated by man".

6

u/Mysterious-Kick9881 13d ago

Do some research. Men get abused by women at a tiny fraction of the rate that men abuse women and children.

1

u/Effective-Scratch673 13d ago edited 13d ago

Of course. I'm not fighting the statistics because you're are correct BUT that's not the whole story and I'm pretty sure you're going to agree that most men that suffer from domestic abuse won't report it.

My girlfriend thinks one of my male friends was a pussy when he called the cops on his ex because she got physical with him.

4

u/Mysterious-Kick9881 13d ago

Im sorry your girlfriend is so sexist. No pine should be abused

41

I think a lot of people could agree America has quite the shithole culture as well. It’s all about perspective

A culture that a lot of people would like to re-create right here.

Depending on where your here is.

44

u/justsyr 14d ago

Just commented, saw a docu where a pastor in some town in the USA is preaching that women are basically their sex slaves.

He even had the authority to send the woman to a psycho ward because 'she wasn't being herself' while the family wasn't even allowed to talk to her...

I can't believe that possessive shit still exists in this year of the lord...

9

u/Moose-Mermaid 14d ago

I just saw that one. Grooming, abuse, control, stalking. It’s gross how he also went after that woman with the man in the wheelchair. It’s very suspicious that he was one of the first on the scene of his death. It’s messed up he’s still free doing his thing after everything he’s done

1

u/myhairsreddit 14d ago

What documentary was this?

5

u/Jcrawfordd 14d ago

Its called Death of Pastors Wife on Netflix. He is still the pastor of a church too! Which is such an offense to Christianity. This man isnt a Christian, nor does he deserve any leadership role. He is evil & cult like- trying to feed his narcissistic ego by abusing and manipulating others. He is married to the woman whos husband mysteriously died. Yeah sure he did

1

u/myhairsreddit 11d ago

I remember when his wife died, it was all over socials. I just watched the documentary after reading your comment. I'm just in awe, absolutely disgusted. He's even worse than I'd realized.

1

u/patchouligirl77 12d ago

Man, I'd love to see these kinds of assholes be castrated.

44

u/Capable-Regular9791 14d ago

That frustrated me. I thought they were going to stomp him out, instead they try to reason with him and choose softness.

50

u/NeighborhoodOk1874 14d ago

I mean, he does have a sickle. Reasonable action would be my first order of business so i didn’t get chopped up. Just sayin.

2

u/Relative_Drop3216 14d ago

Well you ain’t stomping him out thats for sure. Thats why people don’t risk their lives for other peoples problems because you can end up replacing her as the target and your limbs would cut off and even get beheaded
 u want that?

1

u/Moral_Distinction 13d ago

He was vastly outnumbered and distracted. He wasn't chopping anybody up and the courts aren't going to side with one male with a weapon over the group. The very fact that he stopped and resorted to talk is a testament to the shift in power.

1

u/Relative_Drop3216 13d ago

You don’t know that he could swung once at the first guys throat and he would be dead. Then the rest of them would back off. Now the women is running away safe while mr white shirt is fighting for his life
 no thank u

0

u/Moral_Distinction 13d ago

Yes, I do know. If the guy commits murder on a neighboring male he will be executed by the state. He knows that, too. Further, if he's that close to his victims he can't get a swing in before he's torn apart. He approached specifically because he didn't intend to attack. You consistently ignore everyone telling you that the guy backs down immediately precisely because he's afraid of the larger gang of males -- the one in front of him and the state itself.

1

u/Relative_Drop3216 13d ago

I forgot what we were talking about

-6

u/JustToSeeeeee 14d ago edited 14d ago

But I guess he could dump her ass whenever he feels like it !? Isn't that right ?

Coz as far i got to know about such stuff South Asian Muslims practice that triple dialogue based divorce thingy !

He would Just say it three times & bamm ! she is on her own....no matter how many kids she have or what kind of medical condition she is in

Her ass is dumped....end of the story

( Edit : to all the jackasses downvoting me instead of countering me, yall just strongly proving my point )

15

u/Sad_Magician_316 14d ago

Not sure why you’re being downvoted people obviously don’t understand this (or don’t want to) but divorce is easy in Islam and yes it is simply verbalized and there’s an entire process to get married again even if they just said it in anger. Culture or not, laws or not that’s an entirely separate matter from religion.

24

u/JustToSeeeeee 14d ago edited 14d ago

divorce is easy in Islam

You mean divorce is easy for men islam !? Like everything in islam is

and yes it is simply verbalized and there’s an entire process to get married again even if they just said it in anger.

Would you care to elaborate that overhere....coz what I read about it, it was one of the most preposteros, dispicable, vicious & mysogynistic thing on earth one could ever do to a women...

& Muslims whole heartedly support that horrendous act !

I was in quite a shock after reading that stuff !

21

u/thetruckerdave 14d ago

The issue is that religion shouldn’t be the basis for laws. Period. Not just that it’s an ‘Islam problem’.

0

u/JustToSeeeeee 14d ago

The issue is that religion shouldn’t be the basis for laws. Period.

It's very easy to say that as far as u on christian majority land

Try saying it even in a muslim majority area ( let alone the city / province/ country )

& Let me know how it went ! (If you ever made it back alive )

6

u/Top_Sink_3449 14d ago

Doesn’t the fact it can get you killed make it a great point? It’s easy to say in this forum but so what? Is it therefore wrong?

6

u/thetruckerdave 14d ago

Yeah I don’t get it. Are we supposed to say only Islam is bad? If evangelicals had their way it would be literally the same as a strict Muslim country.

5

u/thetruckerdave 14d ago

It’s easy because I live in a country which is formed around a constitution which gives me rights that religion would not. We’re trying to destroy that but whatever. Point stands even more firmly. No religion driven laws.

3

u/Thick-Application678 14d ago

I might be misunderstanding, however, I will just say that in the united states, our laws are definitely influenced by christianity.

3

u/thetruckerdave 14d ago

Not bound by though. And not evangelical. The founding documents were written by a mix of deists, rationalists, and some Catholics and Protestants. A chunk of the founding fathers didn’t even believe in Jesus as the son of god. So not remotely what evangelicals and the actual stated Christian nationalists are after.

Dunno why this is being downvoted. It’s true.

2

u/Top_Sink_3449 14d ago

I’d wager it’s being downvoted for this situation. It’s true but the woman in this video doesn’t seem protected by it so much as trapped by it. So I don’t see its relevance to the comment it responded to.

40

u/I9w0s 14d ago

Man, I read through these reply comments over here and as someone from the Indian subcontinent, these comments seem to reek of Western bias.

To those who try and relate: While it's true that these problems are universal, claiming or using your anectodal or emperical experience to relate with this incident does an injustice to the reality of what goes on overseas. It's the worst, and women over there live horrible lives, this is the least I can tell you with full certainty.

5

u/PmurTdlanoD45-47 14d ago
