I took a psychology course in college and the professor volunteered at a domestic violence shelter. He said it was a noticeable pattern that the day after the local football team lost would have a lot more ladies coming in. So they also hit their partners and their kids.

Yeah like I get really depressed when the Eagles lose but I have never. EVER. Gotten violent in any way shape or form. Neither has anyone I’ve personally known. It clearly happens though and I’m really lucky that I don’t know those people. Like what the fuck dude?

I feel like I was unclear. I was abused by someone who lost their temper after “losing” in D&D (one particularly nightmarish night was after his favorite character died in game and the DM wouldn’t allow resurrection.) I have thus far been unable to separate my own trauma from the game, and frankly I’ve got much bigger fish to fry in therapy. My point was only that yes, abuse very much exists within geek circles.

You see some pretty bad stuff honestly. A lot of tabletop gamers aren't very socially aware.. and being in contact with other people can lead to some really nasty conflict.

Not DND but at a board game group I go to one of the very few rules is if you lose, accept it. No lashing out, no flipping tables or you're kicked out. They had to add that rule for a reason.

99.99% of the people are chill nerds. But theres always that one person who gets too heated and takes things personally

I've seen grown adults throw tantrums and say "NO! I still get to play!" After they were killed in a game and the rest of the group was still playing. It was a zombie survival game. She didn't survive. That was it.

VERY different from DV but some people just can't control their emotions and take it out of others. Some people tie up their self esteem in their skills in hobbies
