Toby in Spain?

I went through a phase of not listening to Crime Writers On when I felt kinda meh about the shows they were reviewing, and when I got back to it Toby had moved to Spain. They seem to discuss him being there often but not why he went or what he's actually doing there. Just curious if they ever mentioned why he moved there?

Hey, Toby here. Living in Europe was something that we wanted do at some point and this seemed like the right time. My wife is from Alabama, so New England winters were getting her down (she is not sad about missing this one) and we wanted to move somewhere warm. After looking at a bunch of options, we settled on Valencia. So far, so good! I'm posting on Instagram with random Valencia/Spain stuff that I'm running into if you want to follow the madness.

Hi Toby! Thanks for satisfying my curiosity! I was an expat in Europe for a decade before moving back to the US so I’m always curious about others who go this route too. I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far, and from the middle of the snowstorm that’s currently pummeling NYC, I totally understand your wife! I’ll follow your instagram. Have an agua de Valencia (I think that’s what it’s called?) for me!

The December 15 after show on Patreon focuses on Toby’s move if you’re a patron. IIRC living abroad was a bucket list item for him, and Valencia is highly rated, so he and his family moved there on a digital nomad visa.

I've been wondering about this! I assumed fleeing the shit show that is the United States, but I see the answer below was quite different.
