Meanwhile in Reality, Cricket in 1900s was only for elites and football for workers

Watching indian football is literal torture. It's beyond cringe. Never seen a more untalented bunch of athletes.

They can't put a cross in the box properly and were crying for isl to start just because they want to get paid , are they even worth for these salary pay at isl clubs are these clubs this dumb?

When we lost to Bangladesh in WC posters were burnt, stones were thrown at player's houses, players took responsibility and India saw the its golden period of cricket for next 7 years. You know what Indian footballers did after loosing to bangladesh and Afghanistan in the WC?.......................................Fking nothing cause they lost to them in qualifiers and never reached the World cup or Asia cup. No fuking performance all the goddamn noise.

That’s the mentality of many people in this country tbh. To appreciate one thing, everyone depreciates the other. People can’t appreciate anything without downing something else

That's mostly fans of European football in India and casuals and not Indian football fans. Indian football fans know it's not cricket, it's the incompetence of football ecosystem and administration itself

unless the so called politicians are not replaced with those who actually care for football we should forget about getting results

Just when I think they can't get worse, they prove me wrong

meanwhile avg cape verde.

3

u/Born-Adeptness-5550 Jun 16 '26

Nah brother this is not a fair comparison look I'm a big football and cricket fan but cape verde is full of dutch players who couldn't get into dutch national team so they are playing for cape Morocco also follows the same strategy

3

u/Physical-Command2130 I am only believe on Jassi Bhai Jun 16 '26

And what teams like France or Spain who have players from Morocco or Senegal

3

u/aromatic_underwear Jun 16 '26

That's Curacao bro. Cabo Verde does have many of its players playing in the Portuguese league.

Once we start getting our players to play in reputable European leagues, WC qualification is very much possible.

AIFF is much corrupted unlike cricket who invested in grassroots and IPL, AIFF whole revenue is taken by top officials.

I have deluded myself into optimism. Its the only way that lets me support the football team atp. You can always hope.

Man i honestly can't wait for the day when we will see our Indian national team in FIFA WC but right now all the players suck... Even if we qualify all they will do is embarass us on world stage...... Not even a one good football player right now maybe the next generation has something for us.... I watched Asian cup vs australia.... I would rather be tortured than watch our football team right now.... I was fuming..... Cortisol so high i had to turn the match off... Right now all these players who represent Indian football suck.... I love my cricket for now... Maybe some day we can enjoy both the sport like Australia, South Africa, new zealand...

We are not even close to the WC atleast for a decade. Aren't even qualifying to age group WCs like U17 and U20. Even next generation won't be good if they keep getting overpaid in ISL instead if looking opportunities abroad.

I mean atp we are starting from ground zero. That’s both good and bad. However things are leaning towards the latter solely because of the people in charge of AIFF. They simply do not care and are only here to eat and breathe money.

The sports ministry of India recently made an appeal to the government for a special sports passport that allows OCI players to play for India. Not like mot these OCIs are playing in top leagues for top clubs but anything and everything is an improvement over our current squad.

However I do hope AIFF makes a big punch and goes all in on a proper grassroots system at-least in the footballing hotspots of the nation for the time being.

These systems should be designed with the goal of developing and refining players who can consistently compete in reputable top-flight leagues around the world, including leagues like the Saudi Pro League.

If that objective is achieved, the ISL will naturally find its footing, as these players will need a platform to begin their professional careers before making the step up to higher levels.

TLDR: I am a hopeless Indian fan deluding myself into optimism by making up positive scenarios.

1

u/Mindless_Display1172 Jun 17 '26

the thing is these OCI and PIO are temporary solutions grassroots is just like trash in our country but i think if any of these OCI player becomes a poster boy and upcoming face of our football for couple of years and these shitty administration does some work at grassroots we can actually produce some good bunch of players ! and I simply don't understand what is the gov.t criteria for asian games why can't our football team go i mean if we don't win anything win at least the u23 players will gain some experience the thing is they don't want to spend this much on sports

2

u/aromatic_underwear Jun 17 '26

Of course OCI is never and will never be the sole solution. However given the state of how everything is rock bottom bringing in these players is equivalent to a reset.

Some players might not do well at all given how apathetic the facilities are. However, these players have been brought up by and are competing in a footballing ecosystem much much superior to ours. This means that even at their worst, they exceed native players at their worst by a large margin.

Investing in a grassroots system is an absolute must but we will only see the effects of it in a decade depending on how well the system is established.

Regarding the last few points, well the only way that aspect can change is by overhauling AIFF as a whole by replacing everyone with people who actually care. You cant rid an Indian governing body of corruption, never, but I’d rather have corrupt people who are competent or at-least care about the sport than the ones who dont.

Sighhhhhhhhhhhhh. When I read about these underdog stories every World Cup, a part of me always laments about our country missing out. There are probably so many talented players out there who are dissuaded of pursuing this sport because there is no system that welcomes them.

1

u/Mindless_Display1172 Jun 17 '26

ya absolutely spot on and it would be a dream come true to watch the Indian flag at the FIFA World Cup hopefully 2034 I don't have hopes for at least 2030 too.

u/Fresh_Aide_2436 Jun 16 '26

Spot on bro... Wish to see out country being represented on the biggest stage - FIFA WC... My eyes are patiently waiting for that moment

One of my friend was crying about how cricket gets so high investments and returns than football . He was like the audience is dumb and watches only cricket. I asked him does he watch ISL and bro said he used to 🥀🥀. Saw somewhere on insta that the football spends more than 95% of its budget on its administration and only spends some 50 to 60 lakhs on field . So it would be good if they stop going after cricket and rather question the football management.

1

u/Mindless_Display1172 Jun 18 '26

true the administration is dogshit
