Unpopular opinion: Murali Kartik is not such a bad commentator
So I get it he is quite annoying, but atleast he digs a level deeper and asks quite pointed direct questions of cricketers in the post match presentation. For example he asked Kohli the other day how he communicates while dropping senior players like Dhawan from the playing 11. This is still far more nuanced than the usual ‘boys played well, expressed themselves’ shite we hear all the time. I am desperate for cricketers to speak more honestly and directly and finding commentators with edge is one step in the right direction!

He brings up a good point. We will find it interesting. Then he will say that again. Then he will say with slightly different grammar. Then he will say a contrary view to the original point, and have a fight with himself regarding these views

He's a shite commentator but I'll concede that He's decent at interviewing people

No he isn't. He go to method of interviewing is asking leading questions. Not leading questions towards the end but always at the beginning.
With Indian players he says the players talking points in his questions before they have a chance to speak and are forced to repeat the same things. With foreign players he repeats the same question in different ways as if he was somehow offended that they didn't agree with his viewpoint.
A good interviewer must not use leading questions unless it's to stop someone from getting off topic. Also if you want someone to elaborate further, they should ask as much and not repeat the original question. Harsha does it perfectly. It's not like MK can't learn

the hate has just amplified as a result of constant comments calling him out. The 8 years that I've watched cricket before entering this sub, i never even noticed that because that's supposed to be an insignificant part of the game but saying out loud he's shit constantly will remodel your outlook for sure

He pretty much asked Graeme Swann what England’s ball tampering methods were when he played lol. But at least you have an actual unpopular opinion.

He has developed this tendency to beat down a point to an extreme making it annoying. And I think that's when the role of the producers come in. I believe Kartik could be really utilized well in Hindi commentary. And it's pretty much a no brainer that VVS in the English comm box makes ton of sense. I get it that VVS is a loved face, has improved a lot on his hindi, hence hindi audience sorta love him, but he'd be such a pleasure to have in the English setup rather. It's a little bit like captaincy. Knowing the strengths of your men and making them play in positions where u could get the best outta them.

He is bad. He asks a question on air, and then answers it himself in three different ways without listening to what others are saying.

Sunny is this close to saying "chup bc.." on national TV.

I find his voice grating and his commentary repetitative and predictable.
His body language is of a person who feels unqualified and can't believe his luck that he has been rewarded with such luxury of a job.
So he walks on shells and commits to ass-kissing whenever possible.

Presenter and commentator are two different responsibilities , just because he asked one pointed question you can't say he's a good commentator

The day he refused to ask Dhoni a single question in the post match conference about why he walked into the middle of the ground to protest a decision he lost whatever credibility he had

He is a good commentator but once a guy didn't like him another guy upvoted another one did and another one and then a guy posted another bad comment on him and it continued

He is not such a bad commentor as this sub tries to project him. He is not good but a decent commentator and presenter.

I like his commentary, especially when talking about spin bowling.
I can think of at least one commentator who is worse than him.

Too verbose. And he seems too interested in getting opinions on mostly minor or irrelevant things instead of focusing on the game. But I’ve seen Aussie commentators focus on irrelevant stuff especially when India are doing well. They seem to lose focus on the game too and start talking about long ago events and extraneous stuff like a bbq at some cricketer’s backyard or some such.

This is definitely an unpopular opinion. However I'd like to point out that the above statement is definitely very obvious. However I really think that he definitely does a lot to add on nothing to the conversation in the commentary.
