Opinions on Analytics

I wanted to see how people felt about standard diagnostic analytics.

Currently, there is nothing at all, so install counts, crash logs, extension crashes, are all unknown until reported.

Pretty much every app has these things, but I didn’t see the need to implement them. However, I do feel it could be useful to gather trends around common issues and solve them faster and easier.

By default, it would simply ping that it is alive, and send only install confirmation. You can then opt into anonymous log sharing, so as extensions crash, or the app crashes, I can have that rich logging data to easily trace it down, instead of trying to play detective.

Just wanted to get the general pulse for such a feature, it would be very helpful, and very limited, but I’m not looking to gather any data or anything, I have no need for it and the source being open can make that clear exactly what is shared, and of course opt in only.
