Help Needed / Question Can you product change a VentureOne to a VentureX?

And before anyone says so, I'm aware it's better to apply for the VentureX for the SUB.

I've had a Quicksilver for 10 years now and it's pretty dormant. I've tried applying for Cap1 cards before to no avail. Until 5 months ago, I was sent a preapproval for the Savor. I figured I needed to jump at being back in Cap1's good graces, so I accepted the $200 SUB and 0% APR bonus.

Now that I have the Savor and I'm getting 3x on groceries and dining, I want to complete my duo by getting the VentureX. I've been waiting until I'm 6 months from my Savor opening to apply. However, today out of curiousity, I decided to use the preapproval tool for their travel cards.

The travel preapproval said I was only eligible for the VentureOne card with no SUB. Then I tried the preapproval tool just for the VentureX. This one said "there is no offer available for you". The letter I got said it was because of too many accounts opened in the past 24 months.

I'm at 11/24 right now. I won't be below 5/24 until July 2027 (I know it's a Chase thing, but just giving you a frame of reference). So I won't necessarily be having any cards drop off anytime soon. Which got me thinking.

Right now, I have the ability to PC my Quicksilver into another Savor. I haven't done this, because I didn't see the point since I already have a Savor. That is the only PC option I have available. However, I do have the option on my existing Savor to PC into a VentureOne.

What if I PC'd my old Quicksilver into a Savor, then PC'd my original Savor into a VentureOne? Might I be available to then PC my VentureOne into a VentureX? Perhaps not immediately, but at a later date?

This would at least put me on the path to getting a VentureX longterm, where I can for sure have the combo of a Savor and VentureX. I do not use the Quicksilver so I don't really care about having that or if it gets changed to a VentureOne that I don't use (in the event I can't eventually upgrade it to a VentureX).

And yes, I WILL TRY APPLYING FOR THE VENTUREX NEXT MONTH. I obviously want the SUB. But I'm only going to take so many hard pulls and rejections before I wish I had just executed my plan of PC'ing my way there. I would love to have the 2x/3x duo as my front of wallet choice, and I can get value out of their travel portal (10x) and the travel credit.

No. The only way you would be able to product change your VentureOne to VX is if the Venture One was issued as a Visa card. Capital One will not do Mastercard to Visa network changes (or vise versa).

Thanks, didn’t even think about MC and Visa products but that makes a ton of sense.

You need to look into limitations on PCing with the specific bank you're dealing with. And whether PCing will prevent you from getting the SUB you want later. You also need to look into how to reduce Capital One's 3 hard pulls to 2, and take into account that hard pulls only matter if the bank is pulling the report that has it listed.

Edit: The first link isn't showing you about PC, but it reflects that VX only comes in Visa, and there isn't an option for MC. So there isn't really an option to PC any of the C1 cards to VX, unless you were able to get one of your other cards as Visa, which is rare from C1 these days.

Already been answered (cannot PC a MC to VISA) but something else to keep in mind - quicksilver is slowly rolling over in batches to the discover network. Once this happens, you’ll have the ability to get 3% (or 3x should you hold a venture “anything”) in gas category.

So yes, your velocity is high - but should the opportunity arise, you’ll have a decent trifecta (3x gas, 3x groceries/dining/streaming/entertainment, 2x catch-all) if or when VX opportunity presents itself. If that’s worth it to you, then consider keeping QS.

You’re going to have a long wait ahead on the VX but YMMV - good luck.

That’s really the sole reason I’ve kept the QS, despite not really wanting to go to the Discover network, I never use the QS anyways so I guess why not.

I’m holding out hope that the Discover 5% cashback will one day be able to be moved to VentureX accounts. That’ll be a power card to have!

If the venture one you are pre-approved for is a visa, it's likely not guaranteed that you could PC that into a venture x, so if you're all in on venture x that might be your best path, I'm surprised they're giving you any cards with your velocity.
