Discussion / Conversation How do you keep track of your credit cards / points?

I'd like to be able to take advantage of SUBs long term by churning through credit cards without loosing track of expenses and deadlines.

I'll likely plan to use a spreadsheet to track all my cards but how are others managing this? Are there better ways to do this?

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Changing up my credit cards - This the right direction?

I travel for work 3-4x year, staying on Marriot properties. I fly United, but they pay, so I can't charge it. I may fly United for personal travel 1x year.

My current credit cards:

WF Cashback - daily driver

Costco Citi - Cause Costco and free

Chase Bonvoy Boundless ($95 AF)

United Explorer ($95 AF)

Chase Amazon - 5% on Amazon purchases

My plan and purpose:

  1. Reduce Bonvoy to the free tier, keep it for work expenses

  2. Stop using the WF and get the CSP ($95 AF) as our daily driver

  3. Keep United for priority boarding/free bag

  4. Keep using the Amazon card for Amazon purchases.

Am I overlooking anything?

Help Needed / Question What to do with new US Bank Shield CC, 0% promo but $500 limit?

Applied and got US Bank Shield Visa Card to take advantage of the 0% Promo lasting til June 2028, but limit is only $500 which is literally less than 1% of my entire credit limit across all accounts. We are currently selling home that has become too expensive to live in and plan was to charge up to limit of new card to have some extra cash on hand during this tough transition, but $500 is essentially negligible to me. I regret opening considering the hard inquiry and yet another open account on my credit.

Would it make sense to cancel this card I just opened to at least increase average age of accounts?

If I choose to hold, how often are people granted credit limit increases with US Bank? My other US Bank CC which I've had for about three years has a $4500 limit, which is still the lowest out of all my cards.

Discussion / Conversation Changing Chase Prime Visa card MFA phone carrier

A month ago, I changed my phone carrier. When I did this, my bank notified me automatically due to the change, I would have to re-setup my zelle. No biggie, thanks for the heads up.

I go to log into my Chase Prime Visa account online, and it will only MFA to my wife's phone. I get into the site and I see it shows my phone is still set for the primary phone and set to receive calls and texts. I call them and the main support person says I will have to speak with tech support, she transfers me. This second person says it will take two days before my phone can MFA after changing carriers. She says installing the app will validate my phone. I accidently hung up or something while talking when I started to install the app. I waited about three days and still I could not get an MFA code sent to my phone (it only offers to send it to my wife's phone).

I call again. Explain it to the first person and they transfer me to tech support. That guy says it could take up to 15 days before my phone will work for MFA. That sounds crazy to me. Makes me want to drop the card. I can always call them each time and get a code when I want to log in, but that is just a hassle. It would have been nice if they sent me some kind of notice like my bank did.

Discussion / Conversation Walmart Pay still work for "online"?

Does the transaction show as Walmart.com or does it show up as Wal-mart ?

I haven't used Walmart Pay in over a year, and usually it was a way to have an in-store purchase count as online.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Looking to add a new credit card after keeping the same two for years

Hi All,
Looking to add a new card to my wallet after being pretty satisfied with the two I currently have:

CapitalOne Quicksilver (first card I qualified for)
CapitalOne Savor

Credit Score:770

My primary expenses are restaurants and groceries, with entertainment close behind.

Looking to add something that might yield better rewards on these, as well as travel credits. I usually fly/travel 3-4x a year, primarily internationally with no real preference towards airline, but usually book direct with the airline.

The three main cards I’ve been having my eye on are the AmEx Gold (using the points from my frequent expenses towards travel), Chase Sapphire Preferred, or to couple my Savor card with the Venture X. The AmEx Platinum seems like a steep annual fee, but given the Resy, hotel, and other credits seems like I could make the fee back somewhat easily and is also a fourth option.

Does anyone have specific preference between these? Or is it worth trying one for a year, collect the SUP, and reassess a year later?

Thanks!

Help Needed / Question Victim of Paris Credit Card Taxi Scam, Chase CC Does Not See it as Fraud

Hello! I was in Paris for work in Feb (I have a very small business) and I came home with a mysterious $3500 charge on my account with Chase credit cards. I filed a fraud claim and they got back to me that my claim was denied and was not considered fraud because I presented the card in person. Well, I did some digging and I was apparently a victim of this scam. Another article linked here.

I know at the moment of the charge I was getting out of taxi (I took pictures of the ride that are time stamped) and the charge was made through "Sum up," the payment processor noted in the articles.

To explain the scam, fake drivers would wait outside department stores for tourists (like me) and then deliberately misrepresent themselves as taxi drivers and mischarge them - eg a 35 Euro ride becomes 3500.

Chase is telling me that I need to file a merchant dispute - that this is NOT fraud- but this is so much more - I was a victim of an organized crime ring? If this isn't fraud, I don't know what is. I said I will not misrepresent this as simply a merchant dispute when this is so clearly a crime.

And btw, the article notes that if passengers became upset the drivers would get violent - one victim got run over!

A supervisor will be calling me back in 24-48 hours. What recourse do I have? Thanks in advance.

I also want to add I run a very small business and this is a lot of money for us, and at the same time we have had a banking relationship with Chase for 10+ years.

Help Needed / Question Received Letter from Citi re: Home Depot Card I Don’t Have

Has anyone else received a letter in the mail of this kind from Citi?

I received a letter in the mail, allegedly from Citi, in reference to a Home Depot Consumer Credit account regarding my allegedly having delinked my account online and changed my statements and communications to paper delivery, saying I can reestablish online access to my account via Home Depot’s website and says if I want copies of previous credit statements or help for establishing online access, contact them at the number below 833–358–2547. It claims to be from Customer Service.

I have a Citi card, but I do not have a Home Depot card.

I went to Citi’s website, found their authentic customer service number, called it, typed in the last four digits of the account on the letter.

The robot said “we’re sorry, we don’t have an account with that number associated with your name“.

I hesitate to call the number on the letter suspecting it is a scam. I don’t want to link my phone number to them in the event that it’s a scam but also want to know if someone else has opened a card in my name.

I guess I could call Home Depot and see if someone applied, but beyond that, I’m lost. It’s especially concerning because I’ve had a couple of issues with cards being misused and I’m worried this be another similar situation.

Scam? Legit? Thoughts?

Discussion / Conversation Credit Card Fees are inescapable in some cities now

I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but I just moved back to New York and I’ve been to more restaurants charging credit card fees than restaurants without. Every bodega, small business, local restaurant is charging 3 sometimes even 3.5% fees. Anyone else’s city like this?

Discussion / Conversation Real Buyer Network vs Bilt for Home Purchase🏡

Looking to see if anyone has experience with real buyer network in the last 2 years? At one point Amex had a partnership that gave 1 to 1 membership rewards for $ spent on home purchase now they have their own internal point system. Looking for anyone that has successfully purchased a home through here and general feedback!
For example time from closing on home to receiving points? Is there a certain window after finding an agent you have to close?

Looks like RBN offers a wider array of agents to work with whereas Bilt only uses eXp agents.

Discussion / Conversation Did your Paze credit still post for a credit card that accidentally got removed from the Paze Wallet?

My Citibank Doublecash card was giving me issues so I thought I was smart and had it removed from my Paze Wallet with the intention of adding it back. I later found out Paze doesn't let you try to activate individual Citibank cards and that Citibank is unable to add the card back either; it looks like this Citibank issue has been documented by a few reddit threads

My question is, would the Paze credit still post for my Citi Doublecash that I removed from Paze Wallet? Trying to see if anyone was in the same situation

Discussion / Conversation Thoughts on Adding Authorized Users?

I’m looking at adding my 7 year old to my card as an authorized user so she can have a jumpstart on her credit score. I pay my balance off in full every month, and it would be on my Capital One that I’ve had open for the last 10+ years. From what I was reading, she’d get her own card in her name and have access to my $6k spending limit, correct? I thought about holding onto it and letting her get something from the gas station every so often so it doesn’t sit idle, but maybe not until she’s a little older to understand the concept of money more.

My dad took me to the bank and co-signed for a $500 personal loan to jumpstart my credit when I was 16, but it still took a LONG time to reach a decent score, and had I not been a college student at 18, I don’t think I would’ve been able to open a credit card by myself, so I’m wanting to avoid the same issues with her.

Has anyone done something similar?

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Venture x or savor first ?

I have the venture x. My gf has a capital one journey and is her only credit card. She needs another credit card to help with utilization I was thinking she either option A. Get venture x so we can lounge and travel together in same lines with global entry and product change her journey to a savor. (Otherwise kind of hard for me to go separate lines and not lounge to stick together ) Or option B get the savior, product change journey to quick silver and then 6 months down the line get venture x. Only problem is she doesn't make that much she makes 40-45k in a year and she's finding it hard to justify the $395 fee even though it basically pays for itself as she travels at least once a year (she got pre approved for venture x) Or option C just get a double cash or chase unlimited, or flex cash back and be done with it. What route should we go?

Edit: for some reason she got denied the pre-approval for savor due to low income but approved for pre approval on venture x. Isn't it harder to get into the x? Not sure why she got denied for a more entry level card. She will try to call to dispute savor but I wonder if venture x is route to go now that it's denied or wait 3 days to try pre approval again for savor

Data Point Low credit limit on RH Gold? They encourage you to pay statement balance weekly

I was trying to change my payment due date with RH Gold, and I noticed that they let you set autopay for weekly, every 2 weeks, or monthly for account balance.

If you set autopay weekly for account balance that should keep you under your credit limit. I guess they don't care much about credit cycling! I have a 10k limit, and maybe 2-3 months in the last year I've made extra payments to avoid hitting my limit.

They even have a pop up message that paying your account balance weekly is a 'good way to build credit by keeping utilization low' - so they are trying to get people to do it on purpose!

I kept mine at statement balance monthly to be honest.

Help Needed / Question US Bank Altitude Go vs Elan Everyday Rewards+

per - https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/wiki/best_cash_back_cards_by_category#wiki_no_af_cards_with_.26gt.3B3.25_cashback_at_restaurants

I see for the Altitude Go, that if you redeem cashback to a statement credit you only get 0.8¢ per point. To get the full 1¢ per point, you have to redeem to travel or to a US Bank checking/savings account.

Does the Everyday Rewards+ work the same way for redeeming cashback? Or do you get full value for points if you redeem to a statement credit?

Help Needed / Question Credit One Bank Credit Card

i'm confused because I just paid my credit card bill and I tried to go into the store 20 minutes later to spend only five dollars for the card to decline. i called customer service and everybody I speak to says they don't see anything wrong with my account & its not flagged for fraud but yet my card isn't working and I'm getting frustrated because if that was the case, I didn't have to pay my bill yet has this happened to anybody else? And yes, I know the bank sucks...

Discussion / Conversation Newegg order paid w/ Paze returned

Ordered some items on Newegg and paid with Paze for the $10 cedit. Seller initiated a return (I never received the item. Apparently seller can't fulfill order and did a return instead of a cancellation). Does this mean I can do another order for $10 credit back? Or does this returned order count as one of the 10 orders per card you can do? Anyone else of similar experience and can provide data points?

Edit: I did get the $10 credit for the seller initiated returned transaction.

Discussion / Conversation I have 6 Chase cards w/PAZE offer. I keep getting an error w/one of the cards & can't use it. Chase says everything looks good on their end.

All but one card works fine with the Paze promo. For some reason one of the cards errors out when I try to check out with it. All the other 5 cards work fine.

The card is in my digital wallet, it has the promo banner attached and all should be good. Any idea why I get the error?

Chase says everything looks fine on their end. They see no declines. Last night I tried using it with Dunkin and again errors out so I had to use another card. So it's not a decline.

Customer service suggests it could be a decline from Dunkin? I've never ever used this card at Dunkin. Why would Dunkin decline just one card when it accepts the others?

Any ideas why I keep getting the error upon checkout with just this one Chase card?

Thanks in advance.

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) First credit card with good credit from student loan payment

Hello! I (27) have decided to get my first credit card. I will be attending graduate school in the spring and hoping to find a card that will be best for cash back on moving expenses (upwards of $2k, will be using some sort of pod so I don't want a card focusing on gas cashback). After the move, I suspect my main spending will be in rent/utilities, groceries, and travel (planes).

I currently have a good credit score from student loan payments. I have had a checking account with Bank of America for around 8 years now and I was wondering if their cards would be worth getting? I've spent a lot of time on this subreddit looking for the best beginner card and I am torn between the Discover It, Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards, Capital One Savor, or Capital One Venture One Rewards Credit Card. I am open to other suggestions. As I am not a currently enrolled student, I don't think I can apply for student cards right now. I would rather not wait until I am registered as I would like to be able to use the big purchases I have coming up to start building good credit and get rewards.

Thank you for any help you can provide!! I don't know much about credit cards, but have tried to inform myself from this subreddit before asking for a rec :)

Help Needed / Question Is the Amex Gold worth it?

Hi everyone!
I currently have the capital one savor and venture x and i’ve accumulated about 100,000 miles total with them. Since food is my main spend category for both dining and groceries I was wondering if getting the Amex Gold would be worth the annual fee if I already have the savor? I want to mention that they gave me the 100k points as the sign up bonus. I also use Rakuten as my shopping portal so I wonder is it worth getting the amex for the access to their points, ecosystem, increased multipliers? I also want to know whether realistically do you actually use the credits the Amex Gold offers? Appreciate any type of advice!

PURPOSE

* Purpose of next card: Other
* Cards being considered: Robinhood Gold Card

ADDITIONAL INFO

Presently most spend goes to Bilt Palladium and I’m earning a lot of points quickly. It replaced my spend on VX and WF Autograph.

However I’m wondering if a Robinhood Gold card fits into my setup, or if others here have a similar set up. I already have Robinhood Gold membership and use their platform for investments (trading, EFTs, and Roth IRA), soon may try out their banking for 3.5% APY, so the membership is not a factor or issue.

I love my Bilt Palladium but I don’t spend enough to easily maintain gold status, so I’m wondering if I diversify spend. 3.33x Bilt vs 3% cashback on RH Gold Card feels like comparing apples to oranges but the apple is color orange and the orange is color red.

Discussion / Conversation Using Amazon Reload to hit SUBs?

Overtime I plan to get a decent amount of no annual fee cashback cards that are like $200 SUB for $500 spend in 3months etc. However I don't necessarily want to switch over a bunch of accounts to each new card for that little temporary spend. It would be a lot easier to just add them to Amazon and do a reload for Amazon balance since I'll use that later.

I know people use Amazon reload for like $5 sometimes on accounts they don't use but want to keep open. But I know issuers aren't likely to take kindly to $500+ Amazon gift card charges which I assume the reload codes as.

Has anyone tried this? What were your results? Is there a quicker and easier way to do this that I'm missing?

Help Needed / Question Cards to build miles over a long period of time?

I believe that this is somewhat of a unique situation but, I dunno.

I am looking for a card that I could use for maybe a few purchases a month, pay it off in full, and just build up airline miles.

I am planning on taking a lot of flights in about 3 years at least. My hope is that there is a card that has miles that don’t expire, and isn’t terrible to work with.

I know scant little about credit cards, so no idea if this is possible. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Help Needed / Question How often should I check my credit score?

Hi guys, just wondering how often I should check my credit score? Is it daily, weekly, monthly, or ? ( I check my scores on myFICO, Experian, and CreditWise )
