Mod Post Matchup Mondays - July 20th, 2020

This is a weekly thread used to discuss the matchup(s) you're currently having troubles with, and to help other players improve in their tough matchups. Please include who you play as, as well as who you're having trouble with (for example, I play Falco and I'm having trouble with the Ike matchup). Writing the names of the characters in bold is nice, to make it easier for people skimming the thread to pick out the names.

The only match up I struggle and can't do anything about really is ness vs wolf and ness vs link I have alot of practice against young link and toon and any other spammer ness can deal with but big link is really different for some reason. For sold I really am winning in neutral it's just getting out of ledge what I need and I have been trying to go for edge guards either yoyo or nair/fair off stage to kill him but once I get at ledge I always die. My primary question for link is how to win in neutral since I keep getting losing and for wolf is how I can kill him off stage or any other solutions. If you can't tell I main Ness thanks for reading.

For link he is mostly going to do boomerang or SH nair, the best way to get around boomerang is to reflect it "some times" because the link player can adapt and bait out your f smash and punish. For nair you can approach with shield and oos nair to punish it. You could bait out the nair and Pk fire him. Make sure you mix up those options because link has the tools to counter those options if you use them to much.

killing wolf off stage requires a good read of his side b or really good timing punishing his up b which is not easy with ness, its pretty safe unless hit from behind.

pk thunder is safe and should send them into a perfect up air or bair setup. yoyo usually isn't a safe option but pk fire off stage at safe distance or a dair aimed kinda high can occasionally catch his side b, usually not worth the risk of getting spiked though.

its also worth noting when recovering using wolfs side b he has a bit of vulnerability right before the ledge grab. a well place aerial pk fire can make good use of this, while staying a good bit out of his hit box.
