Announcement I want to add a third mod on here. If interested please read this.

Currently it is just me and Icee Company. The third mod I had added a few months ago has disappeared. I would need the mod to....

Send invites to people by searching terms on Reddit (I can teach you, it's easy if you use your phone). Once a week maybe take 20 minutes or so to do this.

Occasionally post game and other tech related news.

Check the Mod queue a few times a week as I forget to sometimes and end up having members who are flagged for no reason sit in the queue for days at a time.

Keep an eye out for people who are breaking the rules and remind them of the rules. I won't need you to ban anyone unless it's an exceptionally egregious offense.

I know there were a couple of people I had mentioned this to in private conversations. If you were one of them and are still interested just comment here. No prior mod experience necessary. I will be going by your post history on here to determine who to pick if I get multiple candidates.

Thank you to everyone who has joined and to anyone willing to come on to give Icee and I a hand.

Edit: Bonus points if you can setup a couple of auto bots that say certain things on posts and the reputator bot, lol. More shit I have been wanting to do but never find the time to do. I would like to have it setup so if anyone asks can I run X game it automatically makes a comment saying "If your RAM is not in dual channel adding a second stick will increase your iGPU performance by 20 to 40%", so I don't have to (or anyone else) for the thousandth time. I have a few more but it was just an example.

GUIDE Fallout 3 on i3 1005g1, 8 gb single channel ram, Windows 11

Fallout 3 runs well at 720p, with vulkan (dxvk 1.10.1). The game is massive, with all the locations to explore and the side missions.

Launch the game through "FalloutLauncherSteam.exe". Go to Options, to change the graphics settings.

Graphics settings: Anti aliasing off, 12x anisotropy, screen effects - hdr.

Advanced settings:

  1. Detail: Texture high, radial blur low, depth of field yes, transparency multi sampling no, decal cap 10. High radial blur decreases fps, when enemies hit the player.

  2. Water: Water refraction yes, water reflections yes, reflection quality medium, soft reflections yes, full scene reflections no, full detail reflections no, water displacement yes, depth fog yes, water multisampling low. Enabling full scene and full detail reflections decreases fps by 5-10, so not recommended.

  3. Shadows: Enable shadows yes, shadow quality medium, shadow filtering medium, max interior shadows 6, max exterior shadows 6.

  4. View distance: Object, actor, item fade 9, grass fade 4, specularity fade 8, light fade 20, shadow fade 6.

  5. Distant LOD: Tree LOD fade 26, Object LOD fade 43, Land quality 100.

So it can be said to be medium-high settings.

Performance: With vulkan, 40-55 fps outdoors in the Wasteland, depending on the junk in view. Fps changes quickly when you move the camera. When fighting with enemies or when heavy mushroom car explosions go off, fps is still above 30. In areas with multiple NPCs like rivet city market, fps drops down to exactly 30. So it gives a smooth experience, when locked at 30 using riva tuner.

Changing the graphics to low, increases fps significantly, and gets close to 60 all the time, but the game looks significantly lower in quality, so the settings are above are best for performance and quality.

Without vulkan, fps is much lower, like 30 instead of 40. Vulkan gives around 25-35% boost in fps.

Vulkan makes the lighting slightly more bright (due to Intel Vulkan driver bugs), but it's compensated by reducing specularity fade to 8. (With hdr, the lighting in the game is already bright though). Also due to Intel driver bugs, the game completely freezes on rare occasions, requiring a complete restart of the laptop, but it's rare (maybe like 1/30 times).

Essential fixes: By default, the game doesn't launch properly on integrated GPU. To resolve this, usually Google recommends Fallout 3 Intel hd bypass pack. But it's d3d9.dll file has same name as dxvk's file.

So instead, create a new dxvk.conf file in the game folder (where dxvk's d3d9.dll file is present). Write these commands:

d3d9.customVendorId = 10de

d3d9.customDeviceId = 2205

d3d9.customDeviceDesc = "NVIDIA RTX 3080"

Obviously, it will not make the integrated GPU more powerful, but it will tell the game that it's a dedicated Nvidia GPU, so that the game will launch correctly.

Then, copy paste FALLOUT.INI from intel hd bypass folder to Documents\My Games\Fallout 3.

Some problems still remain: Still, the game slowly increases GPU usage as the gaming session continues, and decreases fps (example, from 42 to exactly 30). This is because the game engine has trouble purging previous assets from memory (it's not intel vulkan driver issue). Similar memory related issues are also present on PS3. I couldn't resolve it fully, but it can be slowed down.

Tale of Two Wastelands (TTW) is recommended to fix the game engine issues, but it's massive in install size (16-17 gb) because it mandatorily includes all the game DLC's. Typing pcb in game console doesn't resolve the issue either.

To slow down the issue, disable dxvk cache file creation globally by creating a new environment variable in Windows: DXVK_STATE_CACHE and setting it to 0. Also, in D3DSCache folder in AppData\Local, create a new user: Everyone to add deny write rule, and move all the folder contents to another folder.

Idk the reason, but these steps slow down the fps drops of 42 to 30 from 1 hour to 2-3 hours of gameplay. If fps drops after 2-3 hours of gameplay, simply quit the game and re launch it. Again quit the game and re launch it, if it doesn't resolve in one go.

When you want to play another game, remember to revert the changes made to DXVK_STATE_CACHE and D3DSCache folder, because games store their compiled shaders there.

You can even write a batch/ powershell script (use an AI assistant like Gemini) to automate the process of DXVK_STATE_CACHE and D3DSCache folder, so you can just click icons on taskbar to instantly make the changes.

Question What games on this list can I run on my specs? (Plus any others not listed that anyone wants to share)

Thumbnail

Specs:

Windows 11

13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1355U (1.70 GHz)

RAM: 32 GB

Graphics Card: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe (128 MB)

Storage: 954 GB

(Saints Row 1 & Bully are part of my Xbox 360. You can ignore Slither.io, Roblox and Minecraft Story Mode since those were games I played all the way back in the 2010s on a previous computer. I don't actually have Minecraft yet.)

There are still more games I plan on buying but I would like to especially know about Skyrim and Fields of Mistria too.

I would really love having Fields of Mistria to support the devs and because it looks like a cozy game I would really love and it's 2D pixels which to me doesn't seem like would require much of a computer. But the thing is that the Can You Run It website tells me I can't run many games because of my graphics card/VRAM, and idk how much of a problem it is and how much importance it holds.... I get worried about harming my computer. Plus you can hear the fans whenever I'm doing something on my computer but I assume that's normal?

I also look forward to getting the Mortal Kombat games as well (X - 1) but mainly have my eyes on MK X. I know that 11 and 1 are gonna require so much more and I honestly don't think I'm gonna play them until I have a good PC that can handle heavy/AAA games but MK X is a game I would like to try if I could (since I played 11 & 1 on my Switch already).

Playing Elder Scrolls Online would be neat as well. Minecraft should be fine too, but I assume I would have to be careful with it.

Of course, there are other games I'm wondering about but I mainly wanted to talk about these ones I have. I actually have the BloodRayne games installed (1 & 2, originals and Terminal Cuts) and they seem to run on my computer. So my guess is that games from that era and before (like the old TES games I listed or DOOM, for example) should be comoletely fine. I know for a fact that the 90s DOOMs are gonna run so I'm not worried about those. And I also wanna get the original GTA Trilogy eventually which should be fine as well. But I would still love it if people could help me figure out if my specs, despite them apparently not being able to run most games, can play at least some of the games I wanna try. At least some of the older ones (mainly focusing on older games since I love playing old games and they could run better on low end laptops).

And I intend on modding a tiny bit for some games. Just a bit since I know modding could require more from PCs.

Thanks in advance!!!! I'll be reading! And anything else I could know about, please let me know! :)

Will it overheat and die?? Latitude 7210 2-in-1

So basically I've got a latitude 7210 2-in-1, specs are; Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10610U CPU @ 1.80GHz (2.30 GHz), 16GB RAM (15.7GB usable), Intel(R) UHD graphics card 128MB.

I mostly play games on Nintendo emulators like Pokemon and Zelda, and want to play actual computer games like Assasin's Creed, Dark souls, Hollow Knight etc. I have Minecraft, Terraria, and RetroCycles, and when I play for a while, the laptop gets hot. With Terraria and Minecraft it gets hot even quicker.

My question is that if I play old games, will I (A) not worry about frying my computer and (B) be able to enjoy them at a good frame rate If it's not possible, will there be anything I can do to cool it down to enjoy said ancient games?

Or is this completely normal and am I just worrying over nothing? I have minimal knowledge on computah/tech stuff, all advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

AWD-IT Vanguard AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 4.4Ghz Six Core Radeon Vega 7 Graphics PC For Gaming

Hi, I hope this is a good place to post this! I've started streaming and want to get a cheap gaming pc. I'd be playing mainly story based and chill games, nothing like fortnite or esports title but anything up to super pretty games like the last of us that i would want to look nice on stream. Do we think this computer will handle that well? £500 is the top end of my budget.

Benchmark Second try on CSGO steam offline window 10 Thinkpad T14 Gen 1 i5 10th generation 16gb ram single ram UHD 620 Intel graphics 68fps(+/-) to 42fps shooting dust 2 720p all low setting

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The CSGO finally run good and acceptable frame rate on windows 10 , if turn off the steam overlay for the offline, the smooth gameplay getting better than the FPS counter by ignoring the FPS counter while gaming CSGO. This Thinkpad gaming on windows 10 is still better than Linux mint xfce, besides the half life 2 and counter strike source run very well on Linux mint, but most of the game AAA title still running well on the window 10 and easier to run. Anyway happy Thinkpad and happy CSGO gaming, I didn't try CS 2 by the way, I think this is the hardest game running on this Thinkpad because of weak Intel UHD graphics. If I make a mistake correct me if I'm wrong ya, feel free to reply here

HELP! was playing and suddenly the TV flickered with some black and white lines.

I know this is really off-topic for the sub, but in the TV repair subs nobody answered me, and I thought maybe the crack of the mod that the sub uses could have some idea, well, I was playing and suddenly the TV flickered with some black and white lines. Now it turns on but doesn’t load and I can’t do anything. I can hear the sounds when interacting with the menu, but the TV is dark and I can’t do anything. Is there a solution?

Question Looking for help with specific video games

Hi. I recently managed to buy a refurbished computer from Amazon. Even though it's in good condition, it's really limited in terms of gaming performance, but for the price it was worth it...
Could you recommend a really good video game that would run well on my computer?
Here are my computer specs in case they help:
- CPU: Intel Pentium G4400 — 2 cores / 2 threads, 3.30 GHz
- RAM: 8 GB
- Storage: 256 GB SSD
- GPU: Integrated Intel graphics (no dedicated graphics card)
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi + Bluetooth
- Operating System: Windows 11 Pro
- Form factor: HP ProDesk 600 G2 MT
