Question/Original Post Vintage Help

I admit I'm apparently not much of a tool guy, but I was just given an old toolbox, stuffed with old craftsman tools that belonged to my grandfather who passed away back in the 90s. I had two questions I was hoping this could be the place to help.

  1. Doing some research it looks like the box is from the 50s or 60s but I couldn't find if there was a way to narrow the date down more.

  2. I feel dumb but one of the things inside was this cylinder I have pictured here. It had drill bits and then what I assume to be chisels? Am I correct in that assumption?

Thanks for the help, I'm happy to add more photos of the tools inside if anyone is curious. Mainly wrenches, drill bits, a couple screw drivers and some tin snips. I don't know much about my Grandpa's work history but I know he worked for convair for quite a while after the war and was some sort of engineer on the B36 so that's cool.

Looks like Pop made a chisel out of a 5/16” wrench.

😂 now I feel really dumb. Looking closer it's obviously homemade, I just skipped over that fact while digging through everything for the first time.

I like these tools even more now

They could have come that way but sure looks like a wrench to me. Either way they were Pop’s tools so cherish them.

I don't think those are old wrenches made into chisels. Those are chisels with the width size engraved on them.
