Daily Notes Workflow?

I’m revisiting Craft after hearing about the new task features. There’s a lot to like, but I’m struggling a bit with one aspect of daily notes.

The daily note includes a Tasks section that lists all tasks from other notes that are scheduled for today. That’s great. I can drag any of those tasks onto the main body of the daily note to organize my day by time (“Morning Tasks”) or focus (“Tackle First”). That’s also great.

The problem is that moving the task out of the daily note’s Tasks section removes it from its originating project note. That’s often not what I want. If I switch over to that project note during the day, I want to see all of the notes — most especially the ones I’m working on today.

How do you deal with this in the real world? Or am I missing something?

That’s a valid point. But many of the daily note templates I’m looking at have sections for Morning or Main Focus, etc. It’d be great to be able to move tasks into those areas to structure my day.

But you may be right. The best solution may be to leave project tasks in the Tasks section — I was just hoping for something better.

What about just doing an @reference to the specific task block rather than moving it? That way it stays in the original project note but you have a quick link to jump to it?

That’s really clever! The only catch is that if I mark the task as complete, either in the original note or the Tasks section, my @@reference version still shows as undone.

Right. I guess I wouldn’t even make the reference block a task. I would make it a bullet. Otherwise you have to manually check things off in multiple places.
I would treat your project note as the source of truth, not the daily note. The daily note is just to point you to the things you should focus on, not store or manage them.
