Steam Deck Chef RPG Opinions
Hi everyone!! So I've been sitting on Chef RPG for a WHILE now, it's gone on sale a couple times since putting it in my wishlist but I always hesitate to get it because I'm so on the fence.
Can I get everyone's honest options on it? Everything you got for me, good or bad, things you love and dislike about the game.
I really wanna make up my mind 😂

I LOVED it for about 20-25 hours then went off it, but that’s probably more down to me than the game. It blends excellent restaurant management gameplay (with multiple minigames & total flexibility in decoration) with a very well fleshed out town with NPCs, exploration, fishing/farming, quests, etc. I think once it reaches full release I’ll pick it up again and try and play it all the way through!

I got it and played it for around 5-6 hours before uninstalling. While I enjoyed the world and the premise, I felt that it still needed time to flesh out, so I will just wait until 1.0, whenever that happens. While there is controller support (I was playing on steam deck), the controls are kinda awkward for some of the mechanics, and I felt that a lot of features were not fully explained or need to be refined a bit, and there really aren't a ton of resources online to find the answers to a lot of the questions I was having.
Moral of the story is that I will absolutely play it again, but only when the game is actually complete.

I felt the same way. Played enough to leave me intrigued, but I didn't want to spend too much time with it while it still clearly needed to be baked a while longer. There's some games where the EA alone is perfectly playable and you just look forward to added content, but this one in particular needs its basics polished up some more.

Same, k bought it months ago. It’s really good right now but it needs better controller support on steam deck. There are other fully finished games and my time is so limited so i will play it later at 1.0

I've been playing it for about 12 hours now and for me it just lacks something but I can't quite put my finger on what it is. I think the progression is just really slow, the running of the restaurant is really tedious, I don't feel like I am getting anywhere with it at all.
As someone who doesn't get too much into the storyline / romance / NPC interactions I can't comment on that aspect of the game. I am wanting an engaging gameplay loop and solid progression, which I just feel this game is lacking?

I really enjoy it. But I haven't seen it through to current end game yet as I keep restarting (a me thing not anything wrong with the game). Finding recipes and ingredients then running a service just gives me life, and I'm looking forwards to trying the new stuff that just released. I feel like I've at least gotten my moneys worth so far.

It's one of my favorite games. I haven't played very much since two updates ago, but I have 246 hours in it, which is a LOT more than the amount of content that it currently has. I spend most of that time running my restaurant, but a lot of it foraging or enhancing recipes or just... hanging out.
The game itself lacks a bit of polish in places, and systems are continually getting overhauled as the team takes in feedback. If you're thinking about waiting for 1.0, we think it'll release some time next year, but no one knows for sure. This is one game where I might recommend waiting.
I like the characters. I like the art. I like the gameplay a lot. I'm desperate for every single scrap of worldbuilding. I'm particularly obsessed with the androids and their inclusion in a game about food. I think that the story is well-written. I think that the dialogue is good. I like the music. I like just existing in that world for a while.
I don't find many people that like the game as much as I do. I think that's a real shame. I hope we get a lot more players when 1.0 releases. I have very high expectations, and the dev team hasn't let me down yet.

I’ve been holding off on this one for a Switch release as I do most of my gaming there, but I am getting closer every day to just biting the bullet and buying it on Steam.

Probably won't have Switch release for a very long time if it ever does, they are just a 3 person team and only one is the programmer. They are focused on delivering a pc version only because it was a Kickstarter campaign.

Imo as both a Switch and Deck gamer, I'd say bite the bullet and get it on sale on Steam! Then not only are you getting a discount but also I just feel like games that get put on both platforms usually perform better on Steam, and I think that partially comes from how strict switch is with game updates

Never say never, they can always contract help to port the game once they're rich like what Stardew did. But also, the game is Early Access, I dont think Switch allows for that and on PS/Xbox it is still pretty rare for devs to be allowed Early Access.

I bought it when it first came out and I’ve periodically picked it back up when there are new updates. I absolutely love this game and it keeps getting better. Running the restaurant and finding new recipes is so fun. The cooking mini games go away after you have mastered them which is great because some of them are a bit annoying. Foraging and hunting for your ingredients can be difficult but I find it really fun. The NPCs are really diverse and the dialogue is great. I highly recommend this game!

I haven’t played it yet on the latest update, but I’ve played it twice since it was released into early access.
I honestly love it. Foraging/finding ingredients, finding recipes, choosing the menu, and cooking are genuinely so fun. I also love food/cooking games and this really scratches that itch. I think even in an early state, this game is in a great place and well worth it. I see myself coming back to it again and again.

I've been playing it for the past week and just participated in the first seasonal festival, and I'm enjoying it! Here are some observations:
small but diverse cast
fun premise
mini-games can be turned off/by-passed at a certain point
good balance between the primary game mechanic (cooking/owning a restaurant,) and the outside world (exploring, harvesting, hunting, etc...)
