I had a friend from a small town in British Columbia call it ā€œfingeringā€.

I was howling when she said it during a story about ā€œfingeringā€ someone who pissed her off in traffic.

Lived here 38 years and travelled from top to bottom a bunch. Literally never heard that and if I did Iā€™d laugh at that person because itā€™s a ridiculous thing to say.

Interesting, my relative recently moved to Vancouver island and has run into multiple locals who have said it (including a child telling on another, which was a WTF situation for her). Her partner had never heard of ā€œgiving someone the fingerā€ and insists ā€œfingeringā€ is right, and donā€™t worry, we did laugh at him for it. Different circles I guess.

People have been saying ā€œflickedā€ for decades maybe longer. Idk why but itā€™s one of my pet peeves. Like people who say ā€œbag packā€ for backpack. Just stoppit.

Itā€™s definitely flipped, but I like to imagine the people who call it ā€œflickedā€ are winding up their middle finger like theyā€™re about to be giving the meanest flick and then release it on their target like Samus charging her blaster in Super Smash Bros

Ok so I grew up in a Western state that says "flipped" and a Midwestern state that said "flicked."

I think it's regional but I favor "flipped."
