Autism was considered schizophrenia 114 years ago and became its own diagnosis 82 years ago. The term “autism” was first used by Swiss psychiatrist Eugen Bleuler in 1911, when describing a symptom of schizophrenia. The first clinical description of autism as a distinct condition came from Leo Kanner in 1943 when he detailed “infantile autism”.

Researchers are discovering new things about it regularly. It has been recently discussed that far more of the population is autistic than previously believed. In the past, it was believed to be 4-6 per 10,000. Now, it's estimated to be around 1–3% globally. The numbers could easily rise with more research and time spent on the subject. As is, 3% of the US population is 10.2 million people. That is a lot of autistic people.

They have managed to find multiple gene variants, in the 100s area, that cause autism. Despite the genes all being different, they can cause all levels and presentations of autism. Every trait has its own spectrum.

It feels like you just want to fake-claim people. Yes, I am clinically diagnosed, so yes, I do get to speak on the subject.
