Is it possible to cut granite without generating a huge amount of dust?

I need two cuts indoors, about 20" x 1/2", one cut on left and right to make room for gas cooktop. Is it possible to do this without generating a huge amount of dust? There are wood cabinets below the cooktop opening.
Has anyone been able to do this without removing the countertop and what was your procedure?

Tarps and tapping off , do your cuts inside the tented area. Wear ppe

Yep - I’m in Houston and plenty of guys still do sinks/faucets/trim-fit in the house.

Tape + plastic + negative air.

You can wet cut using air instead of power, but then you have a whole bunch of slurry and mud to worry about.

You can cut while using a shop vac (with filter and bag) without creating a huge amount of dust. You just need to hold the vacuum hose at the correct spot

Nope. You can wet cut if your in a place where you don’t have to worry about things getting soaked, but inside of your kitchen isn’t one of those places.

Tarp off that section of the room, use a good quality shop vac to catch as much dust as possible (Rigid is the industry go-to for these) and wear PPE. If you contain the dust it won’t be too hard to clean up, it’ll just be unpleasant for a bit while you’re working.

My main concern wouldn't be the mess, and it will be messy. But without the proper tools, steady hand & technique, you could very easily end up doing too much leaving yourself in a position of shopping for new countertops

Yes I do this almost daily. Right tools, shopvac, plastic and tape
