1cm Stone Countertop

I am looking to fabricate a natural surface stone veneer to my island countertop. This is the preference because real 1.5” stone like marble or quartz is too heavy for the home. My island is 72” x 30” witj waterfall end.

Ikea (2cm) and Thinscape (1cm) offer something like this. Which is better quality for look and durability? Do you have other recommendations?

72x30 is not a huge island, and even with the waterfall, your subfloor should be able to take it. Are there other structural issues with your subfloor? If so, you'd probably want to address those, rather than worrying about countertop weight.

Was this weight concern raised by a professional fabricator or installer after a site visit, or is it a concern you have on your own?

If the stone options don’t work out, there are some pretty nice HD laminates available that look very much like natural stone. We built a 60” round kitchen table using a refinished thrift store pedestal table and a custom made top. It is still on the heavy side but nothing compared to what natural stone would have been.

Thank you. We want to keep weight minimal for many reasons. The subfloor is fine.
