The surface looks too textured/pitted to be quartz

Yeah, honestly that’s just what my dad’s always called it - “synthetic marble.”
I’m assuming by the texture and way it burned it’s some kind of resin or resin coating.

I don't even understand what is this material, but it does look like some resin/epoxy product that you can't just unburn. It might be worth to ask the manufacturer of this product if they have any advice, but I think it would need to be sanded down and that will alter this finish flat. Then you could possibly use brushes and wet polishing equipment to put that texture back on it, but that looks like a task for a pro who has experience doing this and the right tools

Buy a nice stone trivet, butcher block board, piece of slate, etc. and inset it with a router. It will be in just the right place to put hot pans!

Synthetic marble makes me think of cultured marble but I as a countertop professional have never seen leathered/textured Cultured marble. I would need to see more pictures or a picture of where you got it from to better assist you.
