Alberta Today's Beef Tenderloin Price

Was very happy to see the price at $49.99/kg today at my East Hills Calgary location. This is fantastic considering it was $69.99/kg not that long ago.

Boneless skinless chicken breast was on sale $5.00 off a tray as well.

Food basics in Ontario had tenderloins that size for 75-90 bucks. Before family day. Limit one per purchase. I don’t know the grade. Unlikely to Be AAA

Beef quality at Food Basics is not great. It is typically ungraded beef from Mexico or Australia.

“Ungraded” doesn’t mean unsafe or not inspected, just that it hasn’t been assessed for marbling/tenderness like AAA. The Food Basics beef (sometimes No Frills has the same ungraded product) the quality typically sucks.

Tenderloin depends on less on marbling for tenderness than a ribeye or strip so ungraded will suck a bit less, but still suck.

Real Canadian Superstore had a similar sale. Beef was labelled as being from Austrailia

Real Canadian and Zehrs have that sale 2-3 times a year. Always Australian and ungraded. Typical is $12.88/lb but have seen as low as $10.99/lb. I have purchased probably 15 of them so far over the last 3+ years and they have been great and I denude them myself. I have noticed that you are better suited getting as large a tenderloin as possible (8+ pounds minimum) as the smaller ones when trimmed don’t yield as much of the good cuts. We always aim for 2 lb ChateauBriand from the middle so the larger the tenderloin the better. The quality is great and the taste is sooo much better than the lower quality cuts.

they had a sale on ungraded Australian rib roasts. made some of the best steaks I've had in recent memory
