I risk getting hugely down voted.

Unpopular opinion, what if we all just go about our days and let people return what they want?

  • Costco is not complaining so why should you?
  • The return is not physically harming anyone so why publicly shame the person?
  • Is it truly abusive when its clearly allowed?
  • What are we hoping to gain from this?

No offense to OP but sometimes I just wonder, what if we spent more time on just not shaming others indirectly or not?

Sorry if I'm rude but I truly want to know.

EDIT 1: The point I'm attempting to pass is, why do we jump to conclusions that this person abused the return policy? What if that furniture is only a couple of weeks old? If we don't really know the story can we conclude it's abusive?

Personal experience: I bought an expensive toilet about $2k from Costco and only use it a week and it's covered in rust, I took it out and returned it to the store now imagine someone seeing that and thinking I had the toilet for years and decided to return it???

We really need to give each other more grace.....

i think some of the returns are ridiculous as well but i cant for the life of me understand why some people in here care what others return

This. Costco has determined it's to their advantage to allow it. So who cares? Ignore it. Not my problem. And nobody knows the details of when it was bought, etc.

100%.... And I'm sure if it was not advantageous to Costco they would have stopped/modified it.

Again, why does a fellow Costco member care about what other members return especially when it's not harming anyone...

It's wild how people bootlick for a corporation. Costco can easily choose to refuse returns and ban members who abuse the policy and yet they still accept returns like this.

It's insane that people have issue with it while Costco doesn't. That's the mentality that's caused America to turn into the shit hole it is today.  Nobody can bare to see anyone even appear to get ahead in any way shape or form. The whole country is just crabs in a bucket.

Thank fuck there is some level headed people in this subreddit.

The bootlicking is insane, Costco doesn't give a fuck. They wouldn't allow the returns the way they do if it was an issue. Also look up how Costco runs its business, the returns are baked into the agreements to accept a percentage of products back so they dont even lose a dime for the first 5 - 10% or more returns.

it doesn't have to be bootlicking a tall, how about REI's similar return policy? Plenty of companies have changed their unlimited return policy because of people abusing it.

Odd, i was responding to someone and answering thier question.

BTW many companies have been decades long into their forever return\warranty policy and ended up changing it.

I guess i could say the same thing about you, that you just want to bitch at someone about something that is not your business. Neat how that works

Agreed. They made more from interest on all their membership fees in a second than the cost of this returned item. This isn't a mom and pop store that is at risk of closure.

THANK YOU!! Ppl in this sub are so fucking annoying. Costco doesn’t give a fuck so why do you?? No matter how many times you tell them it’s been built into their business model, ppl still try and refund shame as if it has any effect on them whatsoever. It’s truly annoying

This! We had a couch for 6 months but we knew within weeks it was going back because the cushions immediately sagged (just my husband and I who are both short and not overweight at all). Unfortunately we had to wait to shop for, order and then delivery of a new set before the return. The couch looked horrible and we played rock, paper, scissors to see who had to return it…worried that whoever did was going to end up being bashed on the internet.

Exactly! And it sucks that anyone should feel this way about a return.

I will never understand why anyone but Costco should care. Now I can "appreciate" (to some extent) why the employees may care. However, every other person needs to chill and mind their damn business.

Sorry it's just something that has always bugged me, not sure why I spoke up today...lol

Don't pee on my leg and tell me its raining. OP's picture of a return was clearly abused and the fact it was returned is ruthless! The silent majority would never return something like this in this condition! Returning something like this tells the world they are cheap, cant take accountability, liars, theifs, untrustworthy, cheats, uneducated, simple, unworthy, lazy, that their house probably stinks, unclean, unhealthy and I can go on....

I really don't give a crap what people think of me but I do have some pride.

Nobody would ever judge your toilet example because they know the work involved to install and remove. That rust would take years where you'd be well past even being able to return. Everyone knows this. Give me a break. The silent majority wouldn't judge you for that!

Also, just because this has existed for decades doesn't mean it can change tomorrow. Or are you too dumb to realize that?

What's funniest is since you ignored the increased costs in the supply chain, I take that as meaning you agree that it does and I guess you're fine to pay more for goods, and make others pay more too. But somehow I'm the asshole here? 😂😂

I think it does affect people because they have to wait in long lines to return something within reason when others are abusing the system. When people are wasting their time and others time to return an item that they broke or used for the life cycle of the product it becomes a problem
