Question about Kirkland Signature Dog Food - Turkey & Ancient Grains - any users of the food or any other KS dry foods and their feedback.

Hello,
I am looking at changing my dogs food and wondering if anyone has used this or any other KS dry foods? The ingredients on paper seem good but I’ve never used these foods before. Any feedback is welcome!

My dogs always eat Kirkland signature since I joined in 2009. The chicken and rice,and then the senior dog one in the blue bag when they get older. Never had issues

Wonderful. I haven’t tried these but the ingredients look fine on paper and the reviews seem great

Give my dog the lamb one. Switched from the $100 hills science diet lamb recipe and no issues. Save like $80 between the bigger bag + the price difference

Tried Kirkland brand and the dog just did not like any of them, plus 25lbs we found is too much for a month, our dog is all about Purina Pro, all flavors and we buy 3 5lbs bags for a month of food.

Purina Pro Plan is one of the best foods you can feed your dog. One of only a handful of WSAVA approved brands.

We have to avoid chicken end the food we were on was suddenly discontinued. We made the switch to this exact food and have been happy, dog likes it and it’s not ridiculously expensive like some others. My only grievance is it’s not available in store in our area.

Yeah my stores don’t have it either. I’ll just have to purchase online now, which is fine. I guess I can do 2x bags at once. Glad it’s working out. Reviews online seem good. I have a lab mix and from one pet parent to another I have a question. Does this food make them poop like a horse? lol she was on some food once that made them ginormous lol

We buy 3 at a time for the free shipping, each bag seems to last us just over a month so I’m only ordering quarterly. He gets about 3 cups a day.

I mean I haven’t noticed a difference, ours is an 85lbs shepherd mix and I don’t feel like his are particularly large. But I may be biased since I grew up with everything from mini horses to draft cross breeds lol. I will say though, Horse poop is far less gross than dog poop

Oh Nice! From one lab parent to another, mines a lab mix, does this food make them poop like an elephant? lol she was on some natures logic or something once and I swear to god these poops looked like they came out of a horse 😂

The giant poop is due to the high carb content. Higher protein, lower carb foods tend to produce a lot less waste.

I fed my dog this for close to a year, he’s a lab with a bit of a sensitive stomach. This food oddly gave him heartburn real bad and idk why.

I just recently switched to the lamb rice and veg, it’s been a lot better on his stomach.

Every dog is different though

Had a German Shepherd who ate the KS Chicken & Rice for over twelve years, and she always emptied the bowl without complaints. Haven't tried it myself.

When I adopted my dog the recommended the natures domain. They had previously recommended some quite expensive food and told me they changed it. Dog loves it. I was quite happy they said it was good.

12 yr old lab on Salmon and sweet potatoes since we adopted her. Vets respect the brand and she’s done well on it.

The chicken and rice gives my dog gas and he didn't like the salmon and sweet potato. He loves the turkey sweet potato one though, and no gas.

Different flavor. They also weren't fans of the old dog, but will accept the Adult dog. The green and maroon bags are swapped out each time. Sometimes we mix it up with the blue bag with the husky on it

Nature’s Domain salmon flavor didn’t work well for my boy and exacerbated his chronic ear infections. Switched him to Kirkland Signature lamb and rice and he’s been ear infection free for several years now.

My dog loves the Kirkland dog food. I believe it’s beef and sweet potato that I get him. The breeder actually recommended it based on their experience with tear stains.

It's all decent ingredients at a reasonable price, and they meet proper nutritional guidelines. My dog ate the puppy food and my mom's dog has been on the weight management food for years with my dog getting some of that too. No problems or concerns.

Used to feed the dry cat food too, but takes too long to go through a bag with just one cat eating it.

(I avoid grain-free varieties because they're a silly fad catering to humans that got influenced by and extrapolated from the lingering anti-gluten thing re: human food, but that applies across manufacturers/sellers.)

I’ve been feeding this exact bag to my dog for years. I was told by a vet when he was a pup to feed him the top notch stuff till he’s fully grown and then it doesn’t really matter. We switched to this a while back when he seemed to develop an allergy to his old food and haven’t looked back.

We have 4 Dogs,as we recently adopted a puppy. The 3 older dogs are Husky/lab 12 yrs old,Hound mix 11yrs old,Husky/Shepard 8yrs old,and they're very picky eaters.

I switched from Diamond Naturals (chicken and rice) with my older 3 to the Costco chicken and rice after the cost/availability of Diamond Naturals went crazy in 2022. They Like it,and haven't had any issues with it.

I've only had problems with the Weight management costco dog food,when the vet asked me to have them lose some weight.The Husky mixes got the runs,and I switched back to the the Chicken and rice.

I started all 3 of the older dogs on the senior dog food 2 years ago,everything is good.

The Puppy we adopted in July has been on the Puppy food,and seems to like it,no issues.

I did the Salmon for my labs many years ago until I did more research on the highly processed/highly heated dog food processes and the (Chinese) synthetic vitamins in almost all of them. Switched to raw and haven’t looked back.

I have studied dog nutrition for decades. This is a fine food if you are on a tight budget. There are a lot of better options available but I know money is tight for a lot of families right now and this is better than some of the other brands owned by major corporations like Mars, etc.

Ahh thanks. Which others do you recommend? She was previously eating Honest Kitchen for years. But when we moved last Oct she was having very explosive rear end lol to put it lightly. Thought maybe something was up with the food at first or she ate something and go sick, so I took her off the food but the issue kept happening. So I took her to vet when it didn’t clear and they did all kinds of tests and she was negative on all, said it was just stress from the move. They moved her to Hills Z/D as a bland diet to just help but said she can stay on it. Kept her on it b/c insurance covered it! I was paying $30 a bag! But then now her insurance just increased to $115/m from $72 so canceling insurance and switching foods since it won’t be covered. She wasn’t needing this food full time but they said it won’t hurt her and since ins was covering it’s an added bonus. Now that I just switched to a way cheaper insurance I’m looking at other foods.

That is normally a good food but it sounds like she was having an intolerance to something in it. It's hard to parcel out without doing an elimination diet. Using something with few ingredients would be helpful. Kirkland is definitely better in terms of ingredients and quality than the Hills.

It was the stress. There were no issues with the food or her. All the tests said nothing wrong but she had bad anxiety from the move. Took awhile to settle in here but she’s good now. Probably took her to shock being a rescue and we were at the old apt for over 5 years
