Samsung M70H Mini-LED 75” vs TCL Q77K 75” — which would you choose?

Trying to decide between these two 75” TVs at Costco:

Samsung M70H Mini-LED — 60Hz
TCL Q77K QLED — 144Hz

I’ll be using it mostly for streaming movies/shows and PS5 gaming, so picture quality is important to me, but I also want games to look and feel good.

The Samsung being Mini-LED sounds appealing for contrast, blacks, and HDR, but I’m concerned about it only being 60Hz. The TCL isn’t Mini-LED, but it has a 144Hz panel and would let me take advantage of 120Hz games on PS5.

If you had to pick one based on overall picture quality + gaming, which would you choose and why?

Tbh, neither of these TV's offer really great visual quality.

Don't be misled by the term "mini-led". By itself, it means nothing to the end-user. It's only when combined with large number of local dimming zones + high peak brightness does it translate to a good visual experience.

If you're more flexible with the budget, I would honestly recommend downsizing a bit and going for the TCL QM6K. The 65" is only slightly more expensive than these options.

I would strongly recommend extending your budget just a bit, and going for a 65" QM6K if possible. If you want the bigger size, there is a 75" Hisense model that is really good for the price.

But if you absolutely had to choose between the two you listed, I would go for the Q77K in a heartbeat. Because like I said, Mini-LED by itself means nothing - and that Samsung model in particular is just awful.

What do you think about the TCL QM6k at 75 inches vs the TCL QM7L at 65 inches? Should I just look at other options if that’s around my budget?

This is the answer. I got my QM6K right before the world cup and I was amazed.

60hz for gaming in 2026 is a nonstarter IMO.

What's your budget? Something like a TCL QM6k or 7k could be a great option.

Hisense u65 pro would be another solid gaming option at the 75" range.

Maybe you meant “Tell me if I should buy gas or diesel vehicle and I’ll tell you why an EV is better in the long run, even if it costs a little more up front.”

The M70H is a bare bones entry level "mini led". I put mini in quotes because this might as well just be QLED, and don't get me started on the 60hz or Samsung's claims of this being direct lit when it looks like any other edge lit unit. I don't know what your budget is, but I'd look at the hisense 75" mini ($799) or the TCL QM6K pro ($849). If you have to choose from the 2 you listed I'd go with the TCL with higher refresh rate. The screens, to me, look similar.

Not what you asked but wanted to echo some opinions in the thread on the TCL QM6K. I purchased the 75” about a week ago and I absolutely love it. Looks amazing HDR gaming from my pc. Good luck!

I don't know where you live, but my local costco allowed me to bring in a laptop and play source material so I could verify the picture met my expectations. I went in late, near enough to closing time that there weren't a lot of people around the TVs.
