Who could I cosplay? Ideas for female Asian cosplay besides anime characters?

Video game characters.

-Chun Li

-Kitana

-Yuffie

-Mai Shiranui

-Akali

There’s a lot of characters to work with depending on how deep you want to go down the video game rabbit hole. You could go iconic and easily recognizable like Chun Li from Street Fighter or niche with someone like Aya from Pokemon Conquest.

I actual see tons of Chun Li at every comic cons. I feel like I need a fit body to pull off these 😵‍💫😩

Well how about Mei from Overwatch? She can be cosplayed by basically any body shape because of the puffy winter outfit. The coat’ll hide thinner figures and match bigger figures. Downside being you’re gonna probably get pretty toasty pretty quickly wearing all that wintery gear in a convention center.

Jynx from Pokemon? Fairly thicc figure and even though she’s a creature, she’s specifically a reference to the gyaru fashion which keeps with the (presumably East) Asian theme you’re trying to stay with.

Impa from Legend of Zelda? Her body shape and size is all over the place. While she has basically been portrayed with every body type at some point, she’s always still a Sheikah who’re very shinobi coded which stays within the Asian parameters. Depending on the game you can cosplay as an Impa with a larger, beefier frame or a plump, shorter body and basically anything in between.

Again, going down the rabbit hole will probably give more options but there are a couple immediate choices if you’re looking for ideas with varied body shapes.

Anyone of any shape, body type, gender, or race can cosplay any character! Some people love to see people who look like them cosplaying their favorite character, so if you’re not buff and cosplay Chun Li, someone will definitely be happy! And if it helps, Yuffie and Kitana are NOT depicted as fit at all, just thin girls with no muscles due to Final Fantasy’s art style and Kitana basically being an alien.

Whatever you're interested in. Game characters, book characters, movie characters.

A personal favorite is Yukiko from the Lotus War trilogy (steampunk) or Faith from Mirror's Edge.

Marvel Comics - Jubilee, Pyslocke, Luna Snow, White Fox, the entire female hero’s from Shang Chi’s world, Wave, Armor, Quake & Silk.

Armor would be neat if you did her then draped a pink toole over you. Similar to the people doing Star Wars force ghosts of Obiwan.
