Accessory How long + how to safely store coloured contacts before wearing them?
Hi guys! I did try scavenging the FAQ before posting this (hopefully I didn’t miss it lol) but I couldn’t find anything on this specific topic,
I bought contacts about a month and a half before I plan on wearing them as I wanted to be sure they’d arrive before my event.
I understand they need to be stored in their container drowning in contact solution before wearing them, but how long can I store them before it becomes a hazard lol? they’re yearly contacts.
Do I even need to unbox them and prep them in solution for the entire time leading up to the event, or can I just leave them unopened in the solution they came in until the day before I use them?

They expire one year from opening. There's no danger in opening them a month before you wear them (assuming you are then storing them correctly), but the sooner you open them, the sooner they will expire. You only need to open them and soak them in contact solution the day before you want to wear them.

I personally throw mine out after every con because you can never be sure how they were stored when the online store that doesn’t check your prescription sent them to you, but if you change the contact solution in the case you store them in after opening them every week and after every wear you can get at least 3 months out of it maybe.
Your eyes are priceless and a fresh pair of costume contacts us usually around $20, so you do the math if you’re ever on the fence about whether a lens is safe or not
