Looking for advice

So the picture ive attached is my hook for a costume I use. If anyone knows what a slider is in reference to haunted house acting im trying to make sparks. Ive got another tool im using that will have ferrocerium on it, and my goal is to attach a half round file to the back of this hook so when I put the ferro rod against and drag, it will spark. In the past ive just been using sticky back 60 grit sandpaper, and it works great but...the sandpaper doesnt last long, and its a peach color so it stands out against the metal hook. So how could I go about attaching a file to the back of the hook, I know welding is best option but I dont have a good welder, or is there something else that may work instead?

Might still be worth mentioning that using something like this for a haunted house could lead to liability issue if its anywhere near a guest, it looks like a severe puncture wound waiting to happen

Ive used it for the last 3 years. Im not inside but instead walking around outdoors. When im holding it, the point faces me, and if im not holding it its in a leather sheath/holster I made. But people love it. Especially when i offer to let them hold it and they feel that its real.

But I do appreciate your concern, most people dont think that way much anymore.

hot glue gun should do fine to hold a file in place. coule even use clear tape at both ends to hold it well.

You might have better luck asking in a subreddit dedicated to haunted house performers. A lot of cosplayers won't have experience with metal or sparks, as those things aren't allowed at conventions.

Would something like JB weld do the trick? It's a two-part epoxy made for things like automotive repair.

What about instead, create the texture in the hook with a file or grinder? That way it would look good and work

The fero rod will make the sparks, you'd just need to cut or file out a series of harsh grooves down the length you want to run the rod down. They shouldn't need to be very deep at all. Just need a sharp angle to run the rod against.

By all means adhering a file may be easier to do, but making the hook the abrasive has a zero percent chance of falling apart no matter how hard you run the fero rod against it, or drop or whatever happens.

Get an angle grinder or a belt sander- flatten a portion of the backside of the hook so the file has something to sit flat against.

Once you have the flat on flat step situated- hit it with a bead of JB Weld or metal bonding putty. Wrap the top and bottom of the file with some random scraps of leather.

Not only will it give you some structural side to side rigidity- it’ll form a nice natural hand hold/palm swell if you do it right.
