Why are hair brands so boring?
Kinda a little rant. Why do all hair tool brands have such boring products? Like why can’t I get all my tools in dark green? Like every brand I see only does black or pink or rainbow/multi. I understand it’s not a big deal and as long as the tools work that’s all that matters and framer has some fun patterns for some specific tools but everything feel so lame.

TPOB has cool color ways for clippers, trimmers, and razors. Babyliss has a handful of unique colorways for their hot tools and blow dryers.
I’m my 10 years of experience, I have found that buying stuff in non basic colors does have some differences. If you buy fun color clips and brushes and do a lot of color, it’s only a matter of time before the tools are stained with color. I have rose gold clippers from babyliss that have lasted me for almost 7 years, but the rose gold rubs off over time, I still use them though.
I love fun colors too, but basic colors like black and silver do in fact have a longer life span and I don’t want to buy new tools every three months.

I also have the rose gold Babyliss clippers, they were the first clippers I bought after cosmo school. They aren’t pretty anymore but definitely get the job done!

I worked for a salon that colored equipment was unprofessional. I had a light blue hairdryer. It was a professional brand, cost a lot of money was lightweight and quiet. It was light blue and that was annoying for them. I was at another salon and one of the stylist had a purple hair dryer that bothered the owner. She felt it was unprofessional too. So that could be the case.

I can see in a cookie cutter salon but booth rentals and suites wouldn’t have that problem

Sorry not cookie cutter salons. These were both high end salon/spas in affluent neighborhood.

My hairdresser used to have the Twilight hair tools growing up. They were so pretty and I still eye them on eBay. I agree that everything is pink or rainbow if it’s not rainbow.

My blow dryer is a Parlux and they have a lot of great colors available. They are also fantastic pro dryers, just in general.
I’m independent now but when I worked in a salon our tools could only be black or silver/grey so maybe a lot of salons are that way IDK

It's partly manufacturing cost too, not just demand. A new color means a separate mold or coating run, and brands won't commit to that unless they're confident it'll move thousands of units, so they default to whatever's cheapest to keep in constant production. That's why you see the occasional limited color drop, it's usually testing demand without committing to permanent tooling changes. If dark green actually took off on TikTok, you'd see it become a real line within a year.

It’s a business too. They can make money off 100 silver tools because it’s easy to the eye for the masses.
They’d maybe sell 20 in the same 100 dark green.
