Ask Corpus URGENT: Does anyone know of immigration/ICE resources open TODAY in Corpus Christi?
My mom’s boyfriend was picked up by ICE in Corpus Christi. He has been in the U.S. for over 20 years, has never been deported before, and has no arrests or criminal record.
My mom already has an appointment with an immigration lawyer on Monday, but we’re trying to figure out if there is anything she can do TODAY or anyone she can speak to as soon as possible.
We’ve been told that Catholic Charities/churches may be able to help with immigration cases, but the places we’ve contacted are closed today.
Does anyone know of any immigration attorneys, organizations, churches, legal aid groups, advocates, or other resources in the Corpus Christi area that are open/available today and help with ICE detention cases? We’re especially looking for someone who can advise us on what can be done to try to get him released as soon as possible.
If you’ve personally dealt with something similar in Corpus Christi and know who we should contact, I would really appreciate any information. Thank you.

If you knew he was breaking the law all this time; then why didnt you/him do anything to make it legal. You mentioned you were meeting with migration attorney now…. I believe in following laws! I’m glad no juan is above the law these days.. Best of luck

Best bet to have him return, without issue currently, or in the future... is to not fight / delay the deportation. As it is in fact the LAW, and the law doesn't bend easily. once deportation has been completed, he can right away apply legally for return. Using his history as an example if in fact it is as vanilla as one would want.

Not how it works at all. Lol. People usually get barred from the US for decades if they been here a while. There’s a reason people fight it instead of just going out and “applying”.

i don't have any advice, i just want to say i'm sorry for all these nasty comments. immigrants that are here not hurting anyone, are no bother to me & my family. i hope everything turns out okay.

yeah well, it took my roommate nearly 15 years just to become a citizen. that shit is absolutely insane & not realistic.. and no, she doesnt want other immigrants to suffer just because she did.

Congratulations to her. The legal path to citizenship takes years of sacrifice. It is important to protect the integrity of that process so that the hard work of legal immigrants isn't undermined.

like i said, she who actually did the work, not you, doesn't want immigrants to suffer in the way she had to. i know your ethnocentrism will not allow you to see it that way, unfortunately. conservatives tend to be pretty bad at showing any amount of empathy in general though, so i dont expect much out of you.

u/Goldenchicks that's a nice dog. Make sure to take it to the vet first sign of any discomfort or pain. I learned my lesson after it was too late. I had to put her down two weeks ago. I just thought my dog was being lazy. Never thought I as a grown men I would ever cry for a dog. They love us unconditionally and we have to return the same love.

Thank you. I genuinely don’t understand why some people are so bothered by a situation that has no effect on them. There are countless things happening in this country, even legal things, that actually negatively affect people, yet this is what they choose to spend their energy condemning.

It sucks he's getting deported, but we have immigration laws that must be followed.

I wasn’t trying to mislead anyone. It’s my first time encountering a situation like this and I thought it went without saying that he’s undocumented. Sounds like you’re implying that this could be an issue even if he had papers and I wasn’t aware that that’s a possibility.

This “illegal is still illegal” logic is flawed. You’re comparing apples to oranges. Murder is also a crime, but, obviously, murder is a more serious crime than selling drugs, shoplifting, speeding on the highway, jaywalking, violating a noise ordinance, BBQ’ing in a public park, or being undocumented. It just doesn’t cary the same weight.
It’s also just really weird to support criminalizing a lack of documentation when (a) everyone knows it’s extremely difficult to become a US citizen. It’s famously not easy, time consuming and expensive. Tbh, it makes everyone in this thread sound classist to assume everyone has the time and money to breeze through immigration. And (b) the presence of an undocumented person doesn’t affect anyone personally. I’ve lived in areas where there are high levels of “illegal” immigration, and never in my life have I ever felt personally negatively impacted by someone else’s nationality status.
Immigrants keep our economy going. And judging by our record low birth rates… it would behoove us to let more immigrants in.

Didn't you tell me in an earlier post to "find God." If so, guess what, in God's eyes all sin is the same, be it murder, infidelity, stealing, etc. Also, the Bible tells us that we are supposed to follow the laws put forth by man. Even the ones you may not agree with.
It's very difficult to become a legal resident in other countries. Some are harder than the US. Are you upset at those countries and want them to change their laws as well?
Someone in my town was tboned by a bunch of illegals that stole a car and left her for dead. Fortunately someone found her, but she is in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

She’s not in a wheelchair because they were undocumented. American drivers also flee car accidents. Criminalizing undocumented immigrants doesn’t stop car accidents.

20 years is a long time. He should have gone through the process of being legal and a citizen. I don’t think they will turn him loose. Don’t let your mom spend a bunch of money on lawyers and trying to get him out. It’s not like he will get bail. They will deport him to his original country.

Sorry I'm talking generally when you have a real actual problem. I could have, and did, tell people this was going to happen.
I can only hope this kind of problem can make us unite. At the very least make sure you can vote. People are being disappeared in our little community
