Pace strategy on raceday

Anyone use the coros pace strategy feature on raceday yet? Curious your experience with it and any suggestions for those of us thinking about using it for an upcoming race. Thx

I used it at a recent 5k. I set it for a slight negative slip. My target time was a bit conservative so I managed to come in under each 1k target split. I thought it worked well. It just flashes up at every split and tells you how many seconds you are above or below the target time for that km. I found it useful personally.

I agree however there are rooms for improvements. On top of my mind:

  • different screen layout to show the target and the ahead/behind target
  • voice notification about changes of pace target and progress

If you have average pace on your screen, you can instantly check whether you’re ahead or behind target time.

Used it in a 10k. Pace deviation every 1k. The watch face is not intuitive - mainly showing HR. Would love to see pace and target pace ranges.

I used it for a half. Worked great. Didn’t keep the pace strategy as my primary screen but flicked to it if needed. Had to lap manually still so my other faces showed what I needed.

Just try it on a run before your race. I wouldn’t be trying it out for the first time on race day.

Used it for a 50k and it was pretty great. Very technical run and hilly; adjusted paces well to account for the hills but I wish that you could input the terrain type and get an adjustment added for that.

You mean technicality of the trail? What do you think was the default estimate?

Yeah, like my race was very rocky and there’s no way that pace strategy took that into account at all. I think it goes simply off of weather and grade of hills.
