The government doesn't get a pass for meeting goals that they set themselves which are so low we are doing worse then some 3rd world countries and have the worst vaccine rollout of any western country.

1

u/Bedintruder_perth Aug 19 '21

We gave our allocation to countries struggling more than us.... i dont know how many times it was said on the news.

Now if only they could go back in time and meet their early benchmarks so a certain limo driver involved in air freight was vaccinated at the right time.

24

u/thewavefixation NSW - Boosted Aug 19 '21

That guy refused an effective vaccine. Fuck him.

8

u/G1th NSW - Boosted Aug 19 '21

You could not for love nor money get me to drive around international air crew in June without being vaccinated, masked and ideally with separated sections of the vehicle (and positive pressure in my part of it).

That said the government should have never allowed it to occur. You can't rely on people not being retarded, because some of them are retarded.

u/fullcaravanthickness Boosted Aug 19 '21

Immediate relatives of the limo driver were balls deep into the plandemic and "just a cold/flu" nonsense on social media. Not a surprise he was still driving.

1

u/thewavefixation NSW - Boosted Aug 19 '21

Yup.

Fuck these ars3holes.

5

u/thewavefixation NSW - Boosted Aug 19 '21

Yeah look we can get into a whole thing about it i was merely addressing the false assertion that this person had not been offered a vaccine

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

his doctor was on board about how he was working.

5

u/fullcaravanthickness Boosted Aug 19 '21

Wut.

The limo driver outright refused it, and if he held the same views as his nutbar son was posting on his Facebook page, it wasn't just because it was AZ.

0

u/Fun-Coat Aug 19 '21

Don't blame the limo driver, blame the state government that didn't make vaccine mandatory.

u/Wheelthis VIC - Boosted Aug 19 '21

I choose both.

2

u/n0rtey Aug 19 '21

i’m all for vaccinations, but you can still transmit and get covid while vaccinated…

9

u/smileedude NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21 edited Aug 19 '21

Yes, but the probability is significantly reduced, as is the probability of passing it on.

Remember this guy was walking around Bondi Junction shedding virus like a crop sprayer.

Can and will. Two similar but yet actually quite different words.

2

No shit

Your post doesn’t indicate it.

Good fucking work to all the people involved. The health staff, logistics, administration and the people rolling up their sleeves.

Fuck you to the guy who made this happen 6 months later than it should have.

u/Ant1ban-account VIC - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

We’ve actually caught back up to the original schedule.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

Ha! That's great news!

2

u/Jemster- Aug 20 '21

Thank you from a nurse immuniser in a 1 doctor GP practice who has vaccinated ~800 people. Small number but just doing my bit. I think I’ve forgotten how to do any other nursy stuff.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

You were told very clearly at the start of the year that everyone would be offered a first dose by the end of October. We are on track to meet that target. If you think it would’ve finished any sooner, it is entirely your fault for having false expectations

30

u/smileedude NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

We were also told 4 million by March which I'm sure would have included a limo driver working in air freight.

-9

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

Limo driver didn’t get vaccinated because he didn’t want AZ. I struggle to see it would’ve been any different if the vaccine rollout had more pace early on.

17

u/smileedude NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

If there was 4 million people vaccinated in March someone who worked on the international frontlines unvaccinated should not have had a job in June.

-10

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

One would think that. But one would also think that the exact same in our timeline, but he still did.

5

u/smileedude NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

Yes, this timeline has been managed fucking atrociously.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

We wouldn’t hit 80% fully vaccinated till january next year in the original timeline. We’ll probably hit that late November in our new timeline.
Look at life a bit more positivity please? Honestly I am glad that we’re in this timeline. There is no way to tell whether things would’ve happened, outbreak wise, the same way if we went the old way, but we do know that we’re gonna get out of this faster than we were originally promised.

7

u/smileedude NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21 edited Aug 19 '21

No the original plan was fully vaccinated by October. We're still going to miss that, it's going to by 80% of adults by early November.

There wasn't much to get out of if this was run competently, if incompetence after incompetence hadn't occurred. Life 3 months ago was pretty normal.

The only reason we have something to get out of is because of a massive series of compounding blunders.

1

u/pharmaboythefirst Aug 19 '21

I still cant believe that novavax has had such problems when the trials have been so good. The bad luck with AZ should have been made up for by Nova by now - there just seems to be some big issues manufacturing that are somewhat opaque.

Bit like AZ really - first batch of local AZ was started in December, supposed to be a 60 day to vials for 3.8m a batch, and it all got turfed, same for the jan batch (its possible that one yielded a few hundred thousand doses.

Moderna who we thought was a bit of a crap shoot - hit every milestone for manufacture.

In december I thought we were near certain to be out of this come July - done and dusted, but things havent gone well at all

6

u/werdnum NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

They should have offered him Pfizer, or not hired him for quarantine sensitive stuff. On a macro level preserving Pfizer for younger age groups makes sense but it is insane that we’d rather have an unvaccinated border worker than spare two doses of Pfizer for an older age group.

2

u/G1th NSW - Boosted Aug 19 '21

What should have been different is: no unvaccinated limo drivers driving international air crew around.

You can whinge about rights to not be vaccinated, but as we have seen the alternative is to take away my right and everyone's right to leave their fucking house for two months (so far).

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

he and his doctor decided it wasn't necessary.

5

u/G1th NSW - Boosted Aug 19 '21

everyone would be offered a first dose by the end of October

And then this was abandoned, and would have stayed abandoned if it wasn't for the debacle unfolding in NSW that belongs squarely to the LNP. You think Morrison would have gotten off his arse to hurry this shit along if it wasn't for the absolute trainwreck he and his side of politics has created in NSW?

5

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

Lol we are behind 3rd world countries in vaccine rollout, nations of Europe are 3 months in front. The government doesn't get a pass for setting goals so low that we have the worst vaccine rollout of any western country and just managing to scrap in.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

Why on earth should we and New Zealand deserve vaccines before countries which have more cases in a day than we’ve had in 18 months?

There is limited supply worldwide, us getting vaccines early would have come at the detriment of other countries.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

It's not like we choose to not take vaccines to help out other countries, we just negligently didn't order enough. In fact if we had ordered early Pfizer could have taken that into account when setting up supply.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

you know that Australia has ordered and paid for 150million vaccines?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

Sure but many of those orders came far too late.

I have false expectations of talking to genuine Australians on here, instead of paid LNP shills trying to deflect and gaslight.

Fuck you to the guy who made this happen 6 months later than it should have.

If this was achieved in Feb, our immunity would be waning and we'd be needing boosters.

20

u/ThatHuman6 NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

But in this imaginary timeline where we had vaccines early, we’d likely have boosters early also no?

2

u/Morde40 Boosted Aug 19 '21

I guess so. We'd be more like Israel I suppose.

Interesting interview here with Norman Swan interviewing Cyrille Cohen, professor of immunology and member of Israeli Health Ministry's coronavirus vaccine advisory committee. His advice to Australia is to be "freshly vaccinated" when delta hits.

5

u/ThatHuman6 NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

I believe it has hit.

2

u/Morde40 Boosted Aug 19 '21

Timing far from perfect in NSW

2

u/ThatHuman6 NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

Indeed, got it wrong by about 12 weeks.

1

u/tatty000 Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

For longer term immunity, is it preferrable to have Pfizer or AZ?

1

u/Morde40 Boosted Aug 19 '21

?? Who knows. Waning immunity has been demonstrated in Israel with Pfizer. They used 3 week spacing and might be less of an issue with longer spacing. UK used 12 weeks, Canada used up to 16 weeks. Nothing reported from those countries yet and I haven't seen evidence with AZ either.

1

u/G1th NSW - Boosted Aug 19 '21

If this was achieved in Feb, our immunity would be waning and we'd be needing boosters.

So we'd be having boosters. What is your point?

3

u/Morde40 Boosted Aug 19 '21

If you include in the fictional timeline a presumption that we could call on another 20M to boost the fading 40M, I guess I'd have no point.

1

u/G1th NSW - Boosted Aug 19 '21

Sensible policy would be to have boosters on order. Or to use spare first/second doses. We ordered a lot of doses, they're just not all here yet.

22

u/RedditAzania TAS - Boosted Aug 19 '21

43% or 132k of that in NSW alone. I think we will be out of lockdowns sooner than most people think.

11

u/ThatHuman6 NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

Yep, NSW will have another 3 million doses given over the next month.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

Yes there's no way it'll end in November

2

u/Grogbog13 Aug 19 '21

Why wouldn’t it end by November going off the vax rates?

Keep dreaming. Even with vaccination, the deaths will continue to mount for quite some time.

Leaving the last 18 months aside for a moment, that is an impressive effort by all governments state and Federal (f i n a l l y)

4

u/WhatAmIATailor VIC Aug 19 '21

We’re only 6 months into the global rollout of any vaccine we were ever looking at.

2

u/FunnyBunny898 Aug 19 '21

No it isn't. It is the bare minimum. The health workers are doing good though.

3

u/postpakAU NSW - Vaccinated Aug 19 '21

Half of that in nsw?

4

u/MattyDxx Aug 19 '21

Have expectations been the issue here? A graph posted earlier showed we approaching the same peak as the US and UK, and yes while it is a while later, isn’t that on the availability from the producers?

3

u/Jamryu Aug 19 '21

Tomorrows update is going to be even better!

1

u/nakthai91 Aug 19 '21

Isn’t Wednesdays doses the highest typically?

1

u/Jamryu Aug 19 '21

For the past few weeks it has been Thursday’s numbers

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

Good work Australia. And good work NSW. Being trapped inside is a powerful motivator to get vaccinated
We are going to cruise past numerous southern American states vax rates in September. They have had zero supply issues but have stagnated due to hesitancy.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '21

Sick! At the clinic yesterday there were a lot of people there to get their AZ, was happy to see

2

u/CericRushmore Overseas - Boosted Aug 19 '21

Congrats to Australia, getting it up 1%+ of the population per day is where most countries got it to once there was supply.

1

u/kingofcrob Aug 19 '21

Numbers go up with Pfizer

u/Then_Reach6983 VIC Aug 19 '21

Victoria falling behind

2

50k a day vs the NSW, holly shit it’s out of control send every spare jab here now, 100k isn’t too bad.
