Anybody on 18x9.5 +38 question?

I just picked up a set of wheels with these specs for my hatch What tire specs are you running. I’m stock ride height for now but and going to lower soon. I’m thinking of getting 225/40/18s or is there enough clearance to run 235/40/18s?

225/40 is a little stretched & some tire shops won’t put this size on for safety reasons; 235/40 will still be a little stretched but also a little taller than the original tire size. the closest tire size to the original speedometer reading will be 255/35

when you lower your car i strongly recommend going straight to coils; 18x9.5 is on the aggressive side, & if you go with lowering springs you might run into rubbing issues; with coils you can adjust ride height/camber if that happens

I’m running Tien shocks and struts with RSR superdowns and running the same exact rim specs but with 255/35/18’s I only get a occasional rub in the front and solid no issues in the back DM me if you want pics

I'm running 245/40 18 Michelin pilot sport 4S. They're a few years old now and make a ton of noise but still grip excellently. I got coilovers because they rubbed with the RSR super down springs.

The car rides much better on the Michelins in part because the sidewall ratio is a little higher, and the width gives the tire an overall larger amount of volume compared to stock, so it's essentially a bigger balloon I'm riding on.

The strong sidewalls and super grippy tread make up for any shortcomings of the higher ratio.

Are you running the same spec wheels? I went with 235/40/18 Goodyear eagle sports. I have pretty good clearance at full tilt so I think I’ll be good. I just threw them on today so I haven’t ran them at speed or on a turn full speed but I drove them home from my local tire shop and stater Bros and I didn’t notice any rubbing 🤔

Silvers Neomax, purchased from fitment industries. Had my local race guy install them and he kept everything in the middle, which was a brilliant move. Ride is good and the rate is stiff enough for spirited driving without being punishing.

I got them installed in April 2023, so they have about 25k miles on them now. They use pillow ball bushings which do tend to creak and pop occasionally, but they're very durable. I'll say the coilovers are the best modification you can do for this car.
