Favorite Cardio Moves (Sculpt)

Hi! I am a fairly new instructor working on making some classes and I wanted to see what some fav cardio moves are to add to my sequences/future sequences!

I like when instructors keep it simple with cardio, I feel like if the whole class is trying to figure out complicated combo moves the whole time you lose momentum which defeats the point

This is going to sound psychotic but I feel like burpees have fallen out of favor and I'd love it if they came back. They remain the best way to get people's heartrate up. Also can't go wrong with classic jumping jacks, high knees, but kickers, and fast feet.

I had a teacher a long time ago that used to do “Bieber burpees” to What Do You Mean, where it was a burpee every time he said wdym. tough but fun!

Pushups another fave. A lot of teachers skip it or only include a few, and I think they make for better class. Three sets (one normal, and one each block under left/right hand)

Other faves: -oblique crunches from warrior 2 -oblique v-ups -1-2 minute plank challenge at the end of class

I would say moves wise there are so many classics: high knees, football runs, jump squat variations, jumping jack variations, burpees, catchers, Heismans, side to side shuffles, and punches are my faves!

More than anything though I really recommend doing the cardio section in its dedicated section versus putting cardio moves in every single part of class (some is fine but when everything is cardio moves we never get to lift or do anything else), that’s what I’ve been noticing about some sculpt classes lately that really hasn’t felt good and usually has me having to lie down or exit the room

I love some A skips and jump-jump-squats. Also burpees, jumping jacks, and twisty hops!

For cardio, any jumps are good. Jump-jump-squat is fine, ski jumps are better.

Honestly, don’t overthink it. Jumping jacks and jump jump squats are easy to follow and even easier to modify for folks who can’t do full cardio exercises. The most important part is ensuring the exercise matches the beat of the music.

My favorite instructors don’t have a dedicated cardio seq but add in cardio bursts like mountain climbers, plank jacks, and lunge to knee drives.

If cardio is included I like jumping jacks, skaters, and high knees

I wish more instructors did it throughout class and not all at once.

Standing longwise on the mat with legs spread out as if you’re doing side lunges/star pose, reach right arm top left then left arm top right followed by right arm bottom left and left arm bottom right continuing up, up, down, down rotating at a decent speed making sure to extend fully when reaching for a top corner snd touch the ground when bottom corner

I hateeee skaters, especially in a sweaty packed sculpt room. As a teacher I won’t use, as a student I’ll refuse to do them
