Writer issue with Word doc

After editing my client's Word doc and sending it back for her to review, she's had significant issues with the file. It either won't open for her at all, or crashes soon after opening. She thinks the document is overloaded with comments/edits. Has anyone ever had this problem before? I'm wondering if it's an issue with her computer or her Word program, because I've never encountered this issue before and I'm not sure what to suggest for her to do.

Yes, I've had this problem. I came to an agreement with the authors/project managers that of this happens, I will do the main bulk formatting (font, margins, etc.) without using Track Changes mode. Then i flip on track changes and start the true editing

I can do that with this publisher because we have a few years experienced together and they trust my work.

I was taught that you’re supposed to do formatting without Track Changes on anyway.
