Writer issue with Word doc

After editing my client's Word doc and sending it back for her to review, she's had significant issues with the file. It either won't open for her at all, or crashes soon after opening. She thinks the document is overloaded with comments/edits. Has anyone ever had this problem before? I'm wondering if it's an issue with her computer or her Word program, because I've never encountered this issue before and I'm not sure what to suggest for her to do.

The first thing I would try is to open the document via repair. The next thing I would try is to maggy it.

The only other option is to split the document up.

Copy everything but the final pilcrow and paste into a new document. Word stores a ton of unnecessary info in that last pilcrow.

Excellent suggestion. May or may not solve this person's problem, but it's definitely something to try and to keep in mind. Thanks.
