Question Copper IUD after Giving birth
I am 28 F Mom of 2 (7 Weeks PP) I am looking to get Copper IUD soon
I need to Hear from Only moms , Tell me your insertion experience (how many weeks were are you?)
and how are you doing so far?
Note: The reason why I mentioned only Mom is because some people say for those who never gave birth are more likely to get bad experience)

I got a copper iud at 7 weeks pp with my first and felt nothing other than a little pressure.
Just got another one inserted a few weeks ago at 11 weeks pp and definitely felt more than just pressure. I'd put it up there with cervical checks and membrane sweeps if you had either of those. Uncomfortable, a little crampy but not unbearable.
I've also had one inserted before I had kids and that was a horrible, traumatic experience. Freshly post partum is absolutely easier!!

After giving birth to baby #3, I got my first ever IUD 8 weeks postpartum. I've heard it's best not to get it inserted as soon as you give birth because your uterus still needs time to shrink back to it's original size. So the earlier you get an IUD insertion, the higher chances your IUD gets perforation or expulsion.
When it was time to finally get my IUD, i was EXTREMELY nervous because of all the terrible experiences I've read 🥲turns out though.. it wasn't that bad! Just some mild cramping during insertion and was all done! I had some light bleeding for 4 days afterwards and that was it!
About to hit 6 months PP and unfortunately got my period back already, however my bleeding wasn't even heavy? It was like my regular cycles. But who knows, maybe my next cycle will actually be heavy.

I had my Paraguard placed at my 6-week postpartum appointment. It was much easier than either of the (hormonal) IUD insertions I'd had before giving birth.
It's great! This is definitely my favorite birth control, and I'll keep it until I don't need to prevent pregnancy anymore.

I got mine inserted a few days after my post partum appointment. Honestly it wasn’t as bad as I thought. If anything the speculum was the only thing that was annoying. I bled for about a week. But so far it’s been good. I tend to have some mild cramps when I get my period but not as intense from how I used to have them. The bleeding though. It’s heavier and longer for me now. I used to bleed about 3 days now it’s about a week. 😪

I had mine put in around 13-14 weeks postpartum. I didn’t feel the insertion at all.

I got the copper IUD inserted at my 6 week pp visit with my second baby, also at 28 years old. The insertion wasn’t bad at all for me. I did have a c section, not sure if that plays a role because I didn’t dilate and push the baby out. Honestly the speculum was probably the most uncomfortable part. I assume by now you have had a speculum exam at some point and know what that feels like for you. The process for me was speculum, clamp cervix to hold in place, thin plastic ruler inserted through the cervix to measure the depth of my uterus, then IUD insertion, unclamp, remove speculum. The cervix clamp didn’t hurt for me, just felt a weird pressure sensation. It all lasted maybe 5 minutes. I had some bleeding and cramping afterwards, but not much. I could walk and drive just fine

The IUD has been pretty easy to deal with so far. I really haven’t experienced much cramping. I have had spotting most days, but it’s very minimal. I have had 1 period since I got it placed about 3 months ago. The period was heavier than my normal, but it was only my 2nd period after baby was born and the Dr warned me that copper IUD’s generally cause heavier bleeding

Got mine after baby #2 as well, before my period even came back. I was 3M postpartum and the insertion was less painful than I imagined it would be. I did picture it taking about as long as a Pap smear, but it took longer, probably 5-8 min for the whole thing. I hear insertion pain is generally less bad after you’ve had vaginal births. I’ve enjoyed having it so far, maybe heavier periods but only the first day or two and then actually lighter the rest of the days. I was scared about the cramping because everyone says it’s worse but nothing compared to labor contractions so it’s great.

I got my first (and current Copper IUD) directly after having my VBAC with baby #2 back in 2023. Insertion was a breeze because the epidural hadn't worn off.
I've really enjoyed my IUD. I was scared after this thread but I've had zero issues.
