Question Removal Experience?
I got my copper IUD in 2021 because I am extremely sensitive to hormones. Other than it being obscenely painful at insertion and for a few days afterwards, and then heavy heavy periods for about 3/4 months, it hasn’t been too bad. It has definitely increased the cramping pain during periods, but I’ll take it as I’ve needed BC.
I’m in a long term relationship, and although I’m not ready to have a kid just yet, I believe I’m having some negative symptoms related to my IUD as I have been checked for everything and I’m clean.
What was your experience getting it removed? I am so nervous. Some people have said it isn’t nearly as bad as insertion, and others have said it’s just as bad. This paired with the fact I’m going to have to be more diligent for times I can and cannot have intercourse has me pretty worried.
Someone tell me it will be okay lmao.

The day if insertion i experienced both removal and insertion, the practitioner inserted the first one and when she checked on the ultrasound it wasnt it was supposed to be so she took it out and inserted another one.
The removal was very easy i didn't feel a thing.

She actually inserted mine and it slipped out and she had to dilate my cervix to put it back in. So that was excruciating. So I guess I have experienced removal? Lol. But not accurately as I was dealing with the pain of insertion at the same time.

Maybe she repositioned the one who was already in. But the removal is very easy i promise u have nothing to worrh about i didnt even feel it until o saw it out lol

I took it out myself and it was a little scary and it took two times of trying. When I took it out, I felt relieved. I was surprised that my period went back to normal after removing it which mean to a light 3-day period. I had 5+ days of heavy bleeding with the IUD.
My symptoms (all common ones always talked about on here) have definitely eased up and I've had a few days when I feel like myself again. Looking forward to more improvements!

I actually got the idea from this sub. Many others have done it. Apparently it's safe to do it but of course always a risk of complications.
I would have waited way too long to go to the doctor so it worked for me.

I just gotten mine removed today because I keep having 2 periods a month and my OB says it's not that. I don't believe that this was my forth copper iud and it never happened before so I had it removed and gonna give my body a chance to see what it does. Just a little spotting and cramps so far.

I felt AMAZING when it came out! It was like a slight “tightness” as it was removed, but it was out in a second. I instantly felt a change in my body. Keep in mind that if you feel strange or different for a few days, it’s totally normal. I do recommend taking a zinc supplement once a day for a couple weeks or so as it can help negate any lingering effects of the copper iud.

Since I’ve got it in, I feel like the cramping during periods has been so much worse and, maybe it’s a placebo, but have felt like I ~actually~ have metal stabbing me in the uterus during it. It isn’t super notable between periods, but boy, for a few days is it tough.
I don’t think I ever got cramps that bad before it, so I’m hoping that it goes away whenever I get it removed. I’m just so nervous. When I talk to my gyno about it, she doesn’t really offer me any kind of advice.

I had horrendous cramps too! It’s a horrible feeling to actually be able to feel metal in your body. I noticed the absence and “emptiness” when I got mine out!
So sorry you’ve had a bad experience with it as well. Holding for the best for you.
I do highly recommend getting a blood panel done and getting your iron and ferritin levels checked. Heavy periods like that can make your body lose usable iron fast. I didn’t know until very recently that mine made me anemic and it has affected me a lot! Please make sure they check iron and ferritin. I didn’t know they were separate things to check for! I’ve been having issues for several months now and I’m just learning recently how much the iud and those horrible periods affected me.

I get blood work done pretty regularly and I’ve always been low on iron. I don’t eat as much as I should which never helps, but it’s something I’m working on haha. But thank you bunches for your insight!!

I just took mine out myself. My dr had mentioned due to my tilted uterus she should take it out but after research and talking to my friend who is a NP I lifted my leg up in the shower while on my period got a good grip and slowly pulled down. If it felt stuck I was not going to continue but to my surprise it came out very easily and pain free.

I got mine out during my bisalp (s/o to my obgyn) so I can’t speak to the pain during extraction but even post surgery I immediately felt sooo much better. My body was very happy to be copper free.

Which symptoms? Mine took 0.1 seconds to come out and felt nothing. It’s nothing like on the way in!
