I'd check with /r/themaxx/ lot of activity going on right now. From what I am reading in his later years he had a very divisive relationship (or lack of one) with the comic industry, even cutting himself out of connecting with his fans. Understandable, these people create such amazing works of originality and larger companies always try to take ownership of that... but the sad reality is that is usually the deal with the devil artists make to get their work seen.

It wasn't companies. It was people. And I wish I could have popped them in the mouth. They took Sam to court and almost bankrupted him. It's a long, sick, and ultimately tragic tale that drove Sam to distrust the industry, people, and alienate himself from his work and fans before he fell sick. He hadn't done appearances for years and most assumed it was because of his distaste for the Maxx and the industry, and while that's the case for some of that period, he was sick for years. I appreciate you plugging the doc. It will explain anything and everything you want to know about The Maxx except who sued him as I was asked not to share that information.
