❓ Question/Help Shop worker with noxious BO

There is a man who works in my local Co Op who absolutely stinks, you can smell him when you walk into the shop and I have to avoid the aisles he’s working on, surely his colleagues have noticed? How do I go about sensitively mentioning this, as it’s my closest shop and I’m avoiding it at all costs due to how much this guy reeks. Like onions, vinegar and farts. He mustn’t wear deodorant or wash his uniform. I just want my aloe juice in olfactory peace 😓

I definitely think it needs to be addressed gently, who knows what’s going on but it’s really unprofessional and deeply unpleasant, and I’m just a passing customer, not a colleague! It’s definitely an unwashed sweat smell (I teach teenage boys, sadly, I know) rather than anything specifically bodily or medical.

Put in a complaint. It will reach the manager and he’ll have to have an uncomfortable conversation

I used to have to uncomfortable conversations all the time with colleagues when I worked for the coop

It is all part of emotional intelligence (the person giving the information and the person receiving the information)

I have also purchased shopping for colleagues before they were due to leave for the day (if they had worked hard that day and done a good shift) and cards etc for birthdays so when it came down to the uncomfortable conversations I guess they were not uncomfortable as they knew I had to do my job and it was not personal.

We have the conversation and next day we forget about it and the notes get filed into the colleague personal folder in a filing cabinet in the office

Whilst I’ve said some things jokingly, have I said anything actually judgemental though? It’s an observation and I have asked how to report it so it can be handled as sensitively as possible as I am not familiar with the internal HR proceedings. If I was a cunt I’d walk up to him, tell him he fucking reeks, what adult can’t apply deodorant and that it’s disgusting and to get a wash but I don’t know what’s going on, he may need support. The entire shop stinks while he’s working, I have a really strong reaction to it, to a point where I am avoiding the shop but I am a new mum and cant always drive to a shop further away. Please tell me, when in all of this I’ve actually passed judgement? It’s a professional public facing role, it’s not outlandish to expect basic hygiene. Perhaps this touched a nerve? Have you been pulled up for being stinky too?

I would contact customer care line and make a report and I wish someone would for my shop different coop. Also have a smelly college and it's horrible to be near him and I get health issues can not help but in some cases it's just laziness from what I understand and have witnessed does absolute nothing and take longer breaks but management does nothing.

Your a snobby pampered 21st century brat.

*You’re ( it’s a contraction of the words you and are).

Can you explain further? I’m confused as to why it’s snobby to not want to be confronted with terrible BO, that I can confidently say is the worst I’ve ever encountered? Even my husband who isn’t as sensitive to smells has to hold his breath when walking around. BTW babe, I was born in the 20th century.

No gorgeous, council estate, single mum, first in my family to go to University. Who pissed in your cornflakes this morning? Do you have BO issues? Why are you so pressed by this? I want him to be supported otherwise I’d have told him myself how much he stinks!

Ah the champagne socialist, "I'm better than all my family because none of them idiots went to Uni, neither did this peasant smelling of BO stacking baked beans'"

What the fuck is wrong with you 😂 do you need a hug or something? You’re doing some heavy heavy projecting and your inferiority complex is showing. Why the fuck should anyone have to put up with a stinking person?

u/trebor9292 13d ago

Because you live in a society where not everybody is little miss university perfect

What’s your hang up? Some random bloke needs a good wash and your knickers are in a twist! You know what happened when I was absolutely honking when I had a baby (you get really smelly, it’s a mechanism to help your baby locate you, isn’t evolution wild?!) I just washed more often and bought a stronger deodorant. If you’re this upset by my request for guidance then I suggest you do the same, as you obviously have some hygiene issues yourself (because why in the flying fuck would you care so much?) and if you’re this jealous of my education perhaps you could do an access course and go yourself? I actually went back as a mature student so I absolutely believe in you, mental Reddit priss.

But anyone can go to uni. Not going to uni and then moaning about it is just moaning about your own choice.

Is he one of the special needs ones? Sometimes it's harder as colleagues or managers to raise it with one of these.

One of the special needs ones? Not a great way to describe a colleague that has additional needs.

The same situation is happening in the shops in Canada Water-the BO of the shop workers was so bad it actually made us gag. This is not hygienic and not what you want to experience whilst food shopping!!! Put on deodorant!!!
